FattyMagoo said I'm personally not a fan of the show. The costumes are beautiful, but the first couple eps felt like I was watching hours and hours of Revolutionary Road. My theory on it's popularity is that there is a large portion of intelligent people who love the show and can handle how depressing it can be and the rest of the people are idiots like Messi who just think it looks pretty and completely miss everything else. I have a hard time believing that she understands what's going on if she loves the show but thought Young Adult was a downer.

This. I've said this since the beginning–most of the people who love this show just love the costumes and sets. Because seriously, though I don't care for the show, I can't deny that it's well-written and intelligent–but it certainly doesn't have mass-appeal.

Yeah, there's no way she's actually following what's going on. If she was, she wouldn't go on about how much she wished she lived during that time period. No you don't, b***h. Outside of the clothes (which I'm sure were by and large horrifically uncomfortable and impractical) it sucked balls, you shallow idiot.

I'm pretty sure her new black & white print dress was inspired by the Florence Broadhurst prints being promoted over at Kate Spade right now…but not that she'll ever give credit where it is due.

she;s worn this dress with these same shoes probably twice already on the blog. how hard would it be to change up the shoes??

terrible photo. no one wants to see the upper sheer part of your skirt's crinoline, Jess. also that lip color is gross.

Yeah, that's like grandma lipcolor, not 20-something lipcolor.

Messi thinks Dior's "new look" is still new and Betty Draper is still a major character.

She must be pretty dense then because New Look was never relevant to Mad Men. New Look was late 1940s-mid 50s.

Exactly.  All of her Mad Men inspired outfits are full-skirted, below-knee, and waist defining – stuck in the '50s.

Those buttons on today's dress seem to be holding on (or holding closed?) for dear life.  I don't like to body snark (struggling with my own post-baby body) but if a shirt is that tight & the buttons look like they're pulling, it just can't be comfortable (& doesn't look good).  Here's to betting she just had this dress on for the photos & then changed right out of them.

Yeah I noticed that too. I'm so not a body snarker either because most of the time, it's just a cheap shot, but I make an exception for "loud women of food stamps" and "so thin! so toned!" Messi. Both yesterday and today's dresses highlight how much thicker her waist is now. And she still has great legs, but I would not be flashing that much thigh if all I was doing was slam nomming cheeseburgers and milk shakes. (I think she still looks good, but she's slowly but surely descending into what happens to everyone when you stop exercising and start eating anything and everything you want past the age of 20–everything starts to look less, well, toned).

I was thinking the same thing. How could one enjoy a picnic while sitting down, no less (so tummy mass is even further concentrated at the mid section) in a dress on which the buttons are near popping? The then and now photos remind me of how lively and less forced Messi's style used to be.

I'm skeptical a picnic actually took place.

Same here. I recall seeing no pictures of picnic food on Instagram. We all know if she'd been slam nomming on a pick-a-nick basket there would have been food pics.

I was thinking the same thing.  I would assume that a picnic post might have included pictures of… picnic food?  Or mention of food?  Or that she would have accessorized with a picnic basket?

Also, I wish she would stop popping her collar. It just looks like she got dressed in a hurry and forgot to fold it down.

And I think her copy has continuity problems: Over the weekend Adam and I rode our bikes to the park for a little picnic.  Today I’m wearing another late 50s, early 60s vintage style dress that I received a couple years ago  (my emphasis/bold print added)

eeeek, that's rough.
