How is there no thread on the contemptible Shauna James Ahern?

From her terrible writing, sickening love story with the half-wit Chef, faulty recipes, constant Tweeting (though she is on a self imposed Twitter "black out") and misguided fundraising, a la the Widow Perillo; she is a GOLD MINE of snark.

How in the world did Shauna, FOR ONE SECOND, ever think JP was so poor she needed a fundraiser? Also, enough with the hashtag grieving, Widow.

From Perillo's Twitter:

Jennifer Perillo

@AnnBac9 I'm starting a new hashtag countdown—#155daysuntilParis. We're going for the entire month of July.

Also? Never forget the "stain panel" on her wedding dress.

I snagged that from Bratfrees. I can't take credit for the masterpiece.

Her writing style is so painful to read, and the way she romanticizes food is off-putting. I cannot believe she was an English teacher. After watching the chef husband repeatedly wipe his nose and then handle the ingredients in the almond butter video I'm so glad he is no longer employed and serving the public. However my insane jealousy over their living on Vashon Island makes me keep reading, just so I can enjoy the occasional mention of NW island life.

He works at The Hardware Store on Vashon, I think. Thank bloody heavens I didn't get them to cater my wedding.

He quit recently. fwiw, my brother and SIL live on Vashon, and they've told me the food at the Hardware Store is very meh.

I was upset when I was first diagnosed with celiac and people I considered friends linked me to her terrible site. It's the worst purple prose, and someone here brilliantly observed that if she was writing about Jesus the same way she writes about food, more people would find it off-putting. The "Are You New to Gluten-Free" section is particularly off-putting.

I don't think she realizes how privileged she is, either. She once wrote about how buying lobster, butter, and lavender at the farmer's market is cheaper than buying pre-made gluten-free bread and donuts at the grocery store. That may be true, but some of us have jobs.  The bread is going to last a hell of a lot longer than the lobster will.

It's also really irresponsible for her to tell people who are experiencing gastrointestinal issues to go on a gluten-free diet instead of going to your doctor about it. It could be celiac or gluten intolerance, yes, but it could also be something worse like Crohn's or colon cancer (or it could be celiac and cancer), and that time delay can really hurt someone.

I cannot stand her maudlin, rambling posts.

I haven't looked at her blog in years, but I remember reading it when I was in my early days of having to be gluten free. I tried a few of her recipes and they turned out well, but they were so labour/time-intensive and I couldn't handle all that 'my baby is a little bean' shit and the enormous boner she has for food.

Honestly, I used to really like her blog when she first started out. While meeting The Chef did wonders for her in real life, I think the blog has suffered since. Recipes became crazy complicated. Pedantic, poorly shot video tutorials. Do we really need a video tutorial on roasting almonds in the oven and using a food processor to make almond butter? Do we really need another how-to-poach-an-egg tutorial?

If she's going to make a living from blogging, she should, at the very least, try to put out a vaguely professional-looking site.

Huh, it looks like Epicurious deleted a lot of comments. The second extant comment, for example (from "lemoineau") references a comment that got deleted.
