Honestly I can't believe GFG doesn't get more hate on here – she's at least as detestable as Kerf imo. Check out this dumbass former English teacher confusing Lord of the Flies with The Scarlet Letter. Get off my internets and go back to 9th grade.

They came out with a recipe app and it looks like it's as incomplete as their two cookbooks. Looks like they've said yes to failure yet again. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/gluten-free-thanksgiving-baking/id576445066?ls=1&mt=8

I agree, I find her at least as detestable as Kerf. GFG has smug in spades. Re the tweet, she botched the key detail from the story – it wasn't the teacher who marked up the kids' faces, it was the other students who passed the test (not that I think it was a good idea, but the kids also came up with it).

God, is it possible for them to put up an entire photo set for a recipe without Shauna's grubby hands in the shot? That app looks ridiculous.

Even better – former English teacher can't read THE BASIC DETAILS OF THE STORY SHE'S SHARING.

Does she have to put her smug mug everywhere? I'm glad she seems to have stopped writing for epicurious at least.

GFG did get a lot of heat on GOMI after the whole hot widow boots fundraiser debacle.

Now, this is a super b***hy thing to say, but the thing that bothers me most about Shauna is that for someone who's so uppity about eating/being the healthiest, SHE LOOKS LIKE SHIT.  Not healthy at all.  Which, hey – I don't care how other people look or what they eat, to each their own.  Heck, I'm a chubby lady and I'm currently eating a bag of chips while I type this at my desk at work.  But I don't write a smug blog and smug books about how much better I am than all the wan, thin, colorless unenlightened.  All I'm saying is, if you're going to sell an image of 'gluten free is the key to health' then you gotta back it up by actually looking healthy.  And she doesn't.

That is one of the less significant reasons why I find it hard to take her seriously.  On the one hand there's all these restricted eating HLBs and on the other hand there's her.  There was this movie called "The Truth About Cats and Dogs" and the lady goes "You can love your pets, just don't looove your pets."  That's how it is with her I think.  I like food/eating and I like to enjoy good food, but I don't luuuuv food.

And what someone else said about the buying lobster but turning her nose up at pre-made GF bread.  Also the tone of her books, wow I felt bad for her mother just reading it.  She came across as bitter/resentful, I'd hate to see that in person.

I never really read her blog much because what turned me off from the few posts I did read is that she has this bordering-on-condescending attitude about cooking GF and food in general, like she is all enlightened.  In one of the posts I read she was going on about not knowing why more people don't (I think it was) bake their own GF bread, but then her recipe took like 4 hours or something, had all of these flours, and she was like "see? so simple!"

If I really knuckle down beyond my general annoyance with her, this is what made me stop reading, unfollow, etc. Her constant banging of the "cooking is soooo simple!" drum grinds my flour something awful. I like to cook. It's easy for me. I'm good at it. But…it's not that way for everyone and I get that. Shauna doesn't. People aren't bad or stupid or unenlightened just because they don't share your interest in cooking. Really. And it's absolutely unacceptable to me when someone who blogs from home for a living tries to claim that "anyone" should have time to cook the recipes they cook. Um, no. Try working outside the home full-time, commuting, and caring for your little kid and then tell me about all the time you have during the week to put beans and bacon in a dutch oven and watch them "snuggle" for three hours. drool

Wait, what? She wants to go out for Thanksgiving next year because it's too much bother to put together Thanksgiving dinner? But…I thought cooking everything from scratch is the easiest thing in the world that everyone should be able to do. Maybe she should breathe. yes. relax. her way through it. middle-finger

if *she* can't make  perfect gluten free thanksgiving without a kerfuffle puke

how on earth are us mere mortals expected to manage?

edited to add: but don't worry, she is hanging around on twitter for exactly ONE HOUR to answer all your questions!

she does everything that is wrong with the internet. {Rinse, lather, repeat. }

"People, we want to make your lives easier. That’s why we shot all these videos, worked with Debra and Rod to edit them, and have been posting one every day for November.

(Can I tell you a secret? I’m very excited for Thanksgiving to be over soon. This has been a little exhausting.)"

No one has suffered as Shauna has suffered while making, with the help of just three other people, some videos no one asked her to make. People, you should probably start your groveling now.

As a somewhat health-conscious vegetarian, I have no use for this b***h, but I just checked her site and it looks like Bleacher Report for gluten-free eating. If you don't know about Bleacher Report, it's a shitty-ass sports site with posts that are reverse engineered to fit pre-written headlines they think people will be googling so they can get as many pageview$ as possible. Clearly, Shauna Ahern thinks people are going to be googling shit like, "how to make great mashed potatoes," "how to roast a turkey for Thanksgiving," "how to make gluten-free stuffing for Thanksgiving," "how to make gluten-free gravy for Thanksgiving," "how to have a gluten-free threesome with brussel sprouts for Thanksgiving," and the like. Very subtle.

The insufferable food writer thing from Gawker has "Breathe. Shauna. Yes." written all over it: http://gawker.com/5962539/thanksgiving-is-just-such-a-hard-time-to-be-an-insufferable-food-writer-you-know
