Yep – her stuff also sounds eerily similar to a whole lot of Closet Cooking's recipes.

What's amazing is that there is no mention of even having adapted the recipes.  Which is what happens all the time — so why not just acknowledge your starting point?? Smitten Kitchen isn't any less popular for it!

I've been lurking for months but had to create an account just to post here. I cannot stand how much this girl (yes, GIRL) copies HSE. Is it not considered content theft? HOW IS SHE GETTING AWAY WITH IT?

There are so many more too. These are just the most recent ones. It took me all of five minutes to find just by going through her archives (and then I got bored…)

I wonder if some of these bloggers who copy one another with no sourcing have some kind of deal worked out?  As far as HSE-HBH goes, it definitely hasn't affected their friendship.  HSE obviously has no problem with it, even though she gets no credit or links back for coming up with these ideas.

This is when I first noticed it..

2 weeks later

I'll give HBH credit for using frosting to hold the popcorn after seeing people suggest better ways to hold the popcorn on, in Jessica's comments.

I suppose we're giving the both of them a shitload of traffic.  Monetize the plagiarism! pageviews

Blehhh I think my post got eaten. Anyway I was asking if they are actually "friends"? (like fake, social media, kissing each other's asses friends) Or does Jessica just ignore her?

The whole post is almost verbatim- she DOES note it's adapted from Jessica but she just leaves out a 1/2 cup sugar… I guess saying "adapted from" gives you license to plagiarize.

Ok, she sourced back then, so why did she stop and why do these bloggers let her make money off of them without any credit?  I'm sure she's close to or already surpassing them $$$ wise.

Apparently, that half cup of sugar she took out didn't turn out so well.  This is why she no longer messes with baking amounts, just adds or swaps out products or flavors that won't affect the outcomes of the recipes she copied.

LAUREN SAYS:

These were terrible, they were so bland, hard, and waayyy too much cinnamon. We ended up just throwing away the cookies.

  • TIEGHAN SAYS:

I am really sorry that turned out so bad for you. Are you sure you made them properly? I have not had anyone else say anything bad about these cookies. Again, I am really sorry they turned out so bad for you.
