I like the PaleOMG blog quite a bit, I'm just snarking on some of her sycophants.

She posted a recipe with the following picture:

Then some people said on her Facebook wall that the picture looked unappetizing. The result? 185 (at the moment) vitriolic white knights yikes srsly?

Wow! I think my dog might have left this in the back yard this morning. Gross!

That moldy looking spot at the bottom of the potato near the blueberries really adds to the compost heap effect, lol. It's also kinda lazy to base a recipe on using a prepared product and not transforming it in any meaningful way. Adding an extraneous egg (to glue the sausage to the potato?), doesn't cut it for me.

I like the idea of Paleo/Primal, but there's no way I could convince my family to eat like this, just based on the appearance of lots of the food.

OK I do like her blog quite a bit and she seems funny and real but I am kind of boggled about this particular type of "paleo" eating. I legitimately do not understand the advantage of i.e. this granola over conventional granola — genuinely curious here if someone could enlighten me. I added up the calories/macros and not only does it have about double the calories of conventional granola, but also more sugar. I get some of the reasoning behind paleo-izing things, I just do not really get this. I understand making something gluten-free, but oats don't have gluten. I understand that grains have lots of omega-6s, but the nuts she used are not any better. I understand lowering sugar, but the dates and maple add just as much if not more sugar. What is the point here, seriously?!?!? I want to know!

Also she always writes about indulging in i.e. jars of nut butter, etc, which is fine, but she made this post with a log of her daily eats. WHY the teeny-tiny portions and 3 oz steaks if you're a professional Crossfit coach and working out multiple times a day?!?! Why not just eat bigger meals so you don't end up binging on chocolate-covered walnuts/coconut butter/sweet potato fries?!

Here's a marksdailyapple post on oats and why they're sub-optimal:

http://www.marksdailyapple.com/are-oats-healthy/#axzz26SborrwE

The 3oz portions are probably because 1) good meat is expensive, 2) you'd have to eat massive quantities to replace the calories from fats, etc.

I want to know why these people don't eat more salads? Their meals are always brown and sad.

Thanks!! Very helpful link :) What do you mean by 2), re: replacing the calories from fats?

Agree about the salads :(

I really like Juli's blog and I eat paleo most of the time. I think the point of stuff like "paleo granola" is not that is really more healthy or has better macros than regular granola, but that it doesn't cause any gut irritation or inflammation. Its definitely not something I would eat regularly, but I might make it once this fall for a fun treat.

Hmm. So what is the Paleo diet exactly? I have a vague idea but I'm still a little confused.

Wow, that looks so bad. yikes Whyy would you think all of those things would go well together? HLB's, not everything has to be eaten in a mushy mess FWIW, it's okay to eat food groups separate. x.x;

People aren't saying the photography is terrible – just that the collection of ingrediants don't look appetizing in this particular picture. What's wrong with that? Those hundreds of comments coming to her rescue didn't actually read the "critical" commentors (which weren't all that critical anyway – many agreed that it probably tasted good but it just didn't look good).  Instead of taking a page in self-deprecation and humility and posting something like "Yeah, sometimes the ingrediants I use end up looking like a surprise your dog might leave on the floor, but trust me on this – it tastes great!", she takes the easy way out and just gets butt-hurt, calling on her supporters to bolster her self-esteem…when they don't really understand the comments in question to begin with.
