De-lurking because I genuinely like Juli and have had great success with many of her recipes, but I feel like she's floundering lately and her blog is suffering because of it. I agree with those who have accused her of being disordered…I think she's briefly mentioned that she's had a history of disordered eating and she doesn't seem to have the best body image. She's obviously trying to become thinner and has significantly upped her cardio. She says she hates running and has some joint issues to the point where it causes her pain, yet she keeps doing it. A recent "what I ate" post showed she worked out three times in one day (running, spinning and crossfit) and ate probably less than what I eat on average. She also seems to be adding protein powder to a lot of her recipes, which to me is a sign she's veering dangerously into disordered HLB territory.

She's still fairly young (24 I think?) so I hope she figures it out. She does NOT need to lose weight, and I'm getting tired of all the recipes that have these super-fancy, not easily accessible, über-pricy nut butters that have protein powder added to them and are supposed to taste like brownie batter or something. WHY do desserts need protein? You're paleo, FFS, just eat MEAT.

Ok, that was too long for a first post. sangry

Totally agree….

check this out:

http://paleomg.com/crossfit-paleo-life/

she looked PERFECT in the first picture in the water where she says "not much muscle"…looks seriously sick/disordered in the kettlebell pic (for her body type…not saying this can't be someone else's norm)…

Her hair is incredibly thin and skin is terrible – total hormonal/thyroid problems due to dieting.

Her breakfasts of sausage and brussels sprouts? barftastic.

I totally followed her blog in the throes of ed. now thankfully I am 100% recovered and I eat gluten and dairy just fine, my skin and hair rock…they were awful on paleo because the female body needs carbs, especially at the elite level.

She bugs now because I don't know if she'll ever pull her head out. I hope she does and starts doing real things with her life than complaining about how gluten screws her over.

I would kill for her abs in that first bikini picture. "Not much muscle"? For real?! I'll be over here crying and stroking my love handles….

Totally agree. She looks awesome in that first pic. I also noticed that, in that post, she would "never in a million years lift less to lean down." And that's exactly what she's doing now.

While each constituent part looks fairly delicious, seriously, WTF is that? I mean, How do you eat it? And whyyyyy…JUST EAT A REAL BURGER if that's what you want.

Maybe I'm missing the point that this is not supposed to be a burger at all, but it just looks silly. Like some of her other stuff.

I guess why I'm irritated is that she comes up with these things in lieu of 'the real deal'…I know she says 'gluten tears up her insides'…and if that's true, I feel for her. I'm just sick of the whole paleo thing after doing it for 4 years and going so low carb it damn near killed me, especially when she's eating brussels sprouts for breakfast (like I would!).

Unless she can unhinge her jaw like a snake, that first "burger" is a fail.

The second recipe left me disgusted by her accounts of the fly infestation in her home. All I can think about is maggots. eek

You know, that would probably be a really good meal, spread out on a plate into components.  Salmon with some sweet potato latke style things?  Sounds pretty yum.  Too bad she had to ruin it by making a "burger" tower of food.

Well, in all fairness, that is a guest post by a new food blogger so not Juli's recipe or photos – http://www.inspiralized.com/2013/09/18/salmon-blt-a-spiralizer-giveaway-finally/

I just completely disagree with every notion this woman has about health from that one post. She looks horrifically bulky in that last photo, to me. Why on earth would one want to stress out their bones by adding bulk that they simply don't need to cart around? Ridiculous.

And dangly belly peircings? My eyes.

This is kind of off base and body snarky. There's nothing wrong with being a muscular woman. I had ankle problems for years until I starting building up muscles to support them, if anything building muscles can help your joints and skeletal system. Also I really don't think homegirl is all that bulky.

Oh I agree, I am a muscular woman. Leaner than her, but muscular. There is nothing wrong with muscle. Muscle is awesome, when its proportionate and you are feeding yourself adequately and working out in a balanced fashion. There IS something wrong with working out for three hours a day and under nourishing yourself. When you do that you ruin your metabolism and set yourself up to be what she calls an "easy gainer". The malnourishment coupled with the (IMO)excessive working out and binge eating seems to have made her super bottom heavy and is probably stressing out her pelvis and legs, putting her at risk for stress fractures. Thats all.

I don't think that commenting on the body of a woman who is posting all about her body is wrong. If you do thats okay, I guess I'm wrong.

In reading more of her blog she seems to have adopted paleo more for its socially acceptable restrictiveness (IMO, completely) which to me is nothing more than an ED behavior. I'm just not into that, is all.

I don't think she looks bad, being fit and muscular isn't a bad thing especially since it's supporting her bones.
