I'm surprised Dr. Oz would have her on.  While her comfort food is delicious, it is not healthy.  Most of her recipes consists of ingredients like heavy cream and butter.  And oh so much red meat.

Yes. Her recipes are usually unhealthy. It is surprising he'd have her on. I keep looking at that pic of her face above when I read the new posts and it's scary. She also has a commercial and her face looks the same on tv. What has she done to her face? It didn't always look like that did it?

He kept telling her as much, too. He was commenting on the ingredients. (I can't believe I watched it!)

[snip].

Yep, it's pretty funny to hear Dr. Oz introduce her (and damn her with faint praise) by saying, "My wife is always watching your stuff and trying to figure out how to, … you know… , adjust it to our lives."

She has THE WORST voice!  You can hear that she has had some coaching over the years, and speaks in a higher resister than she did before, and obviously someone told her to slow down, and she really took that advice to heart.  She is so unnatural, and there's something so odd about her the way she always plasters that fake smile on her face while cooking.  She just has an odd, stiff, lumpy face, that doesn't move much.

Her face looks really bad here. I wonder if she has fillers in it?

She looks so puffy.. maybe years of cramming sticks of butter and cream down her gullet, or sodium from all those canned foods. Her face definitely looks weird.

Marcella Hazan's recipe is the best and doesn't use sugar. Just tomatoes, onion, butter. I do still use a tiny pinch of sugar sometimes, over here in the UK you just can't get the same quality of tomatoes.

I feel like the only person on the planet who doesn't like Marcella Hazan's sauce.

I'll admit that I give the side eye to her recipe every single time The NY Times – Cooking promotes it, BUT because of it I've started adding butter to my store bought marinara (I usually get Pomi) and oh my damn does it take it to the next level of yum.  No wonder I'll never be skinny.

On a Ree note – my husband somehow stumbled on her show and I'll never forget him calling me into the living room and saying in a confused tone, "Helen, I don't get it, is this like a spoof?  Is it like SNL for The Food Network?  Who let this woman on TV??"

I went through a PW phase but am long out of it.  Everything I have tried of hers is just lacking.  Her recipes are all missing something to make them great. They're average at best….I don't even try anymore even when they look tasty as I pass by her show on TV.

I go to Walmart only 1-2 times a year but I was there the other day hunting something for Halloween costumes and saw the PW line. It looks so cheap and tacky in person!

Not only that, but it's the dumbest commercial ever! "When the air turns cool, and the days are shorter, I know it's fall." Good, PW. Good for you! That girl can figure out the seasons like nobody's business!clap

I think it's ironic that despite the fact that her real family and friends are featured heavily on her show, Wal-Mart hired a bunch of people straight out of central casting for the commercial.  Every time I see it I think, "Who the hell is this diverse group of folks?"  PW looks even MORE awkward than usual, having to interact with strangers and pretend she knows them.

So it seems her commercials have now multiplied. I literally lunge for the remote so I can mute as fast as possible.

I am watching her thanksgiving episode. That cornbread stuffing looks so dry and gross it's making me want to drink my jug of water while watching it. Also two packages of cream cheese and how many sticks of butter in just two small cans of potatoes. Yuck and my the only one who hates the consistency of reheated potatoes. She made these ahead of time with them in the fridge and then will just reheat on Thanksgiving. I'm all for working ahead but I just don't know how my family would like reheated potatoes on Thanksgiving.

It was four sticks of butter and there was also a cup or two of heavy cream. It's the first time I've ever watched her and my jaw literally dropped. She keeps reminding us that it's not that bad because it's for lots of people! She mentioned that she was making a second batch for her more adventurous eaters… And all she added was shallots? Her recipes look so boring and I don't really get the appeal.

I'm going to WK for make ahead mashed potatoes. I usually make a very similar recipe to this, but with less butter and cream and cream cheese. The reheated texture, if done in the oven, is pretty good.

Then again, I'm biased because mashed potatoes are not a favorite of my family on thanksgiving, so I take all shortcuts I can get.

My aunt used to make the most delicious "make ahead" mashed potatoes, only she used real potatoes, boiled and mashed with 1 package of cream cheese and some butter and milk.  Canned potatoes? Why, O Lord?
