The redesign looks like shit, and makes the site impossible to use.

bandwagon

They seem to have a goal of making the least-user friendly site ever.

I fucking love scien

It looks like some over-cluttered hobby forum from 2005.  The old design wasn't really the prettiest but at least it was easy to use.

Yeah, I spent about 15 minutes trying to figure out if there was a way to switch to a different template to make it more palatable.

I've been a member since 2011 and I read/check several times a day but I don't post anymore, the last time I tried to they declared me a fundie (I'm a gay, pro-choice feminist but I'm also a Mormon- the horror!) and that was the end of that, so I just lurk instead. FJ is actually how I found GOMI.

Crikey, what did they have to do that for? The old site looked perfectly fine…

I lurk over there because I have a fascination with the Duggars, fundamentalist Mormons, cults, gender politics…all of the topics that FJ loves.  I never post because they don't seem to be too friendly towards newbies.  I do think they are way too obsessive with a lot of this stuff and it kinda weirds me out.  I don't like how they get involved in blogger's lives (ie when they sent Emily of Under 1000 a Month the mattress because they didn't think her "beds" were sufficient).  I think they also contacted her husband's school because she posted about writing his papers for him?  I also don't like how they snark on kid's blogs.  If you're an adult "professional blogger", I think you are opening yourself up to commentary, good or bad and you should be aware of the consequences of putting your life online.  There is a difference between snarking on them and a teenage homeschooled girl with a little hobby blog.

Totally laughing out loud. That looks like a fourth grader formatted it. But then, that's about the emotional maturity level of the powers that be over there.

There are too many forums; too many categories. It's like looking at a California Pizza Kitchen menu: too many choices. Where do I start? Panic setting in. Confusion. Abort mission.

Confused Jezebel and her lapdog Aria_Star still gone? Grumpy cat says good.

Now, I was one of the ones who mocked the young, specifically Miss Raquel and her "fictional" set partly in the world's least realistic abortion clinic. I have no regrets.

Emily was the 1st fundie blog I ever read. I didn't think it was so bad, but then the parody blog came out and I re-read some of the entries and jaw-dropping I can't believe, though, how much some people interfered in her life! She clearly was not breaking any laws and just doing things her own crazy way. I can't even blame Emily for helping her husband with his schoolwork. Who hasn't had someone proof a paper, read it over for content? Even if she typed out his handwritten pages, I can't see any of that justifying contacting a blogger's school. All that being said, I miss Emily's blog. She almost seemed to be growing and changing her ways, I wonder if she would have given a little more money or something. shutup

I am actually the one who really did send Emily of "Under 1000" a crib mattress and I used to write on the parody blog about her.

You're right, though – I was much too involved and obsessed. Long story short: Bad Breakup = Needed Something New to Obsess About & Emily Was It.

As far as the crib mattress goes, I really did send it sincerely. Perhaps not my best idea in the world, but it truly was well intentioned.  Since I was also writing on the parody and making fun of her, I certainly don't deserve any points. I was at best, misguided, and at worst, a two-faced b***h.

I sorta let FJ go by the wayside when things went wonky because it seemed like everyone was just pissed off about everyone and everything and I just failed at keeping straight who did what when where why and how.

jimzmum – I wanted to read up on the Duggar engagements and while I could log on, I was banned from reading anything. I emailed them and it allowed me on but the design now sucks and somehow I feel little interest in what's going on there.

For full disclosure, I do read ThatWife and post in that thread here at GOMI. And outside of one "I just can't not say it" comment on her Instagram, I keep my distance and plan to completely. I cannot get all crazy-insane again. Yeah, snark is fun – total obsession is ridiculous. (and yes, I was totally obsessed in a bad way with Emily)

Actually, they aren't banning people. If you haven't logged in in X amount of time, your account becomes deactivated. All you have to do is ask to be reactivated.
