Get the Most Outta Ya Womb While Ya Can! meowed
I'd never heard of Fresh Modesty before now, but looking through her photos I really like a lot of her style.  chair  Not everything, but as someone who likes to dress fairly modestly (because that's what I PREFER, not because anyone told me I have to!) I really like a lot of her style.  I'll just choose not to actually read her words…

Same here. Those halftee things she's always promoting actually seem kinda useful/cute. chair

But then she'll get into a discussion about wearing a concealed gun while running errands or something and it quickly becomes uh

Wait, what?!?  dead  I guess I missed that one, all I'd noticed was the "I have to hide my butt to protect my brothers in Christ" drool nonsense.

Wearing a half-tee right now underneath a shirt a work that is cut just a little too low  chair — and PANTS! Gasp!  Seriously, I own several of those half-tees in different colors.  I have a hard time getting shirts to fit right and they generally tend to have a "V" that's a little too low for me.   Not a prude here… it's nice to have a shell under a shirt without the bulk of having to tuck it in.

When I read the part about hiding her butt I snorted cause I read it sarcastically in my head.  She didn't write it that way.  She was serious.  She seriously feels the need to hide the shape of her body so she does not lead men down a path of sin.  Oh my.

Fools & Their Money Are So Easily Parted meowed
I like Olivia. She's sweet, charming, has been pretty honest about dealing with the longer-term complications of some kind of auto-immune illness (she mentions lyme disease, but I don't know for sure or anything). She maintains her own modesty rules while also being pretty true to personal style and fit. I didn't even know headcovering was a 'thing' that was coming back until reading her blog.

I could see the profits from her company not going to her father so much as being put into a bank account to use after her eventual assumed marriage – to use as a down payment for a house or to pay for living expenses or something. Her family seems to push frugality pretty hard, so I doubt her dad is just bathing in a bathtub full of denim skirt money.

Usually a lurker here in the fundie threads, but I have to say that this is the greatest potential username I've seen in a LONG while.

Her family seems to push frugality pretty hard, so I doubt her dad is just bathing in a bathtub full of denim skirt money.

I've really enjoyed watching her branch out of his shadow as she gets older – she's started a company, makes trips on her own, and has kind of gained a freedom and different perspective over time. It'll be interesting to see where that takes her.

I really do like her. I think she's a big sweetheart and is probably lovely IRL.

My only troubling thing has been occasionally when she talks about her family's church. She mentioned once that in the after-church discussion sessions, the men ask discussion questions. If she has a question, she has to relay it to her dad and then HE asks it out loud. Or she waits until after the discussion to her for elaboration. I just think that sounds terribly sad and would be pretty rough for anyone who had real questions.

I used to be more troubled by the way she talked about her father in very idolizing terms but her mother was almost never mentioned – that's faded out over time, and was way more common when I started reading her blog a couple of years ago.

I'm actually at a point where I do just generally enjoy it. Yes, she gives "you should do this" instructions, but that's… pretty common of fashion bloggers, modest or no. It doesn't bother me – she's regularly asked for advice on specific articles of clothing by her commenters/readers.

I don't know. I just think it's probably the best modest fashion blog I've read, if only because it always seems so true to who she is. She's a definite SOMI for me.

Same here. I'm not into the modesty/ religion aspect of the blog at all, but I've been reading it for a while, and she does seem like a sweet person. I used to love reading the 'Awesome/ Awkward' posts she did a while back. And as far as the fundie-lifestyle goes, she seems pretty normal – and I find it impressive that she's actually making some of her own money through her denim skirt business. Just thinking of Erika *smile* here – if Karen or Melanie had the audacity to earn money they'd probably have to give to Erica in return for protein bars dance

Just my two cents, but she's a SOMI for me. There are a lot more crazy fundie blogs out there I'd rather snark on rolleyes

And well done to whoever started this thread – the name is Fresh Modesty  rolleyes

Ok, WK over and out wk

I actually don't read this blog that much because we're at such different life points.  I don't mind her, her voice, or her sense of style.  The only thing that bothers me in some of her posts is when she writes like she came up with X to solve her modest dress issue when she's just using a perfectly common garment that lots of women have.  She seems to think she came up with the tunic, for example.  rolleyes

In her sewing posts, though, she doesn't have very good skills (especially for someone who is selling patterns/ instructionals).  I have no idea if she is involved in the production sewing for her line.  But if she is, I hope her skills have improved.

She's neither a SOMI or GOMI for me.  I've read her, sure.  But I started the thread when someone else requested it.

I'd rather snark on the Farmgirls, frankly.  20 somethings who still use Mommy and Daddy?  Just puke

She also had a second blog, where she posted patterns of stuff and sewing tutorials. I'll be honest, I bought her one sewing pattern thing for the skirts, because I like to wear skirts (nothing fits me right when it comes to pants, so skirts are easier), but have yet to make them. I do think she has cute outfits (although some are questionable), but it seems that recently her blog has gone to crap. I miss her more real posts, I guess.

Olivia attended the Freedom 2015 conference (also known as the "kill-the-gays" conference, as it was founded and is run by an extreme right-wing pastor who has called for and defended the death penalty as a punishment for homosexuality). I don't know why I didn't think she WOULD go to something like this, but it saddens me that a person who comes across as so overwhelmingly sweet would willingly support violence and hatred like that, as opposed to just not being PRO-LGBTQ stuff, if that makes any sense.

tired of my old avatar // also super lazy
