This thread is hilarious. And the Lloyd Christmas pic just makes it.

Scary thing is, I have a hipstery 1920s bob with a fringe (bangs). When it gets cut too short I look a bit like that (I've even likened it to Lloyd before when I accidentally got a bit too enthusiastic with cutting my own fringe). I'm learning when to say, "that's too short!" Hehehe. Other one I've had is Johnny Depp in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. That's not a compliment, yo. smiley-laughing004smiley-laughing004smiley-laughing004

I live near the Dandenongs and I remember reading about The Family. f**kin' creepy. Those poor kids. Children of the Corn, much?

The woman that started and ran that 'The Family' cult is in the same nursing home as my grandmother! So spooky to think that this shrivelled up lady suffering from dementia/Alzheimers (I see her regularly) is the root cause of so much terrifying and seriously messed up stuff, not to mention all the lives she ruined.

Wait, Karen Zerby?!?! Ohhhh she deserves to rot in hell for ten million eternities (and I don't even believe in hell).  I thought they were keeping her location a strict secret and she was kind of on the lam.  Her son (among MANY others) was looking for her, and when he couldn't find her, killed himself and one of the nannies who sexually abused him instead. It's wild that you know where she is!

The lady I'm talking about is Anne Hamilton-Byrne.

Anne Hamilton-Byrne IS in a nursing home and she DOES have dementia – hope she rots in hell hi-103

Wow, I never knew there were two sexually abusive cults (though I guess most are) called The Family and led by women.  The one I'm familiar with is this one, and it's some of the most horrible stuff I've ever read.  River Phoenix and Rose McGowan were raised in it. Google Merry Berg or Story of Davidito If you never really want to sleep again. I'm off to learn about this other Family, now.hijacked

It sounds like this group is a part of the Brethren's. There are so many smaller groups within the overall Brethren group.

If you go up and ask them they probably might not even know what they are called. I was very close to a Brethren family many years ago, they were kind of breaking away a little, but they seriously did not know the name of their group/religion. They used to say that they were referred to as "The Friends". It wasn't until recently that I found out that they were called Brethren.

I hope someone figures out who these people are; I am fascinated! I've learned about new sects I was unfamiliar with, so thanks to all hamcats with suggestions and links. Do let us know if you figure out which one is the right one!swhaddnlmg5zdgfuvglwej-oga8awjm__uwkrrn2crfq_pxss_g_0ab3golb8-oatj9qdfdtdn94ewkz7ai2shxnq1adhqzc_xem10gjgyq

I am in Adelaide and have never seen them either. I'm in the inner NE though. We have many weirdos of our own but precious few pudding-bowl haircuts.

here to appreciate how many Adelaidian hams there are :::)))) grouphug

I don't often venture South, but will keep a look-out for the mysterious netballing pudding bowl ladies!

There are some fundie-looking types at Adelaide Uni, but they don't have bowl cuts. Dressed very dowdy-ish in long floral skirts and 80s style button down blouses and then white tube socks and joggers, carrying backpacks always? I have always wondered whether they are part of a religious group or whatnot but always feel too shy to ask. They may just be ladies who like to dress that way ('modestly' perhaps?) and I wouldn't want to offend them if so chair

FKA such potato, much wow

I found it. Here is a description of the documentary if you're interested:

'Storyville – An incendiary, heartbreaking investigation into one of Australia's most notorious cults, and the scars its survivors still bear today.
Anne Hamilton-Byrne was beautiful, charismatic, delusional and damaged. She was also incredibly dangerous. Convinced she was a living god, Hamilton-Byrne headed an apocalyptic sect dubbed The Family, which was prominent in Melbourne through the 60s and 70s. With her husband Bill, she acquired numerous children – some through adoption scams, some born to cult members – and raised them as her own. Isolated from the outside world, the children were dressed in matching outfits, had identically dyed blonde hair, and were allegedly beaten, starved and injected with LSD. Taught that Hamilton-Byrne was both their mother and the messiah, the children were eventually rescued during a police raid in the mid 80s, but their trauma had only just begun.'

I have to know about the pudding cut group. I'm no help, in SE Melbourne.

I actually heard quite a bit about The Family growing up. My grandmother's (who turns 95 in March) sister had Anne Hamilton Byrne as a yoga instructor in the 60's and saw a lot of her friends in that group follow her into the formation of The Family. That woman was an absolute sociopath. Those poor kids that were brought into the group others-221
