I don't think Karen gets much choice in the matter. She has a post somewhere about grocery shipping and says if she has to go by herself with all the kids she wears a baby and pushes two in the cart, and that Karen also wears a baby and pushes two in another cart.
The constant *smile* *chuckle* are beyond annoying.

I think my favorite is the explanation on why they wear skirts. They need to protect men from that evil crotch. Men can't control their thoughts when women wear clothes that show the area where a crotch should be.

Poor Karen sounds like a house servant. No time for fun. Must take care of babies and make the same lunch every day.

The two oldest girls do about 3-4 hours of housework a day, each, and get half an hour of play time. That seems crazy to me.

I love her explanation for wearing skirts:

"When women wear slacks, short dresses or skirts, or ones with a long slit, men’s eyes follow the lines he sees right up her legs and complete the picture in their imagination.  (Women’s eyes do the same thing, but since women don’t have the same type of temptation their imaginations don’t complete the picture like men’s do.)"

Someone needs to show her a few pics of John Hamm, stat!

Long time reader/ lurker.

I couldn't get by the *smile* every other line. I feel sorry for those older girls, let's face it, kids are bloody hard work, they shouldn't have to spend their teenage years doing SO much, just cos mommy and daddy keep over populating.

I have never stared at a woman's pants, followed the line up and imagined her crotch. Anyone? Anyone? Not for a man, either. It must be sad to think that everyone has a dirty filthy mind (and I'm not talking about normal attraction, or urges), or to assume that all men are cretins who run around raping all women in pants because they're too simple and stupid to control themselves. Or that girls need to be virgins, but also make men happy in all things. What a confusing message. I'm glad I'm not inside her brain.

This is my number one beef with Quiverfull movements and parents who choose huge families. That's their choice to make as an adult, but robbing your children of their childhood to facilitate making that choice that they got no say in in the first place is disgusting and emotionally abusive.

I have a friend, oldest of eight, homeschooled, dad is a pastor, and she would agree with all of you. At 31 she has struggled since college to deal with the upbringing she had. I mean, most parents screw up and children grow up with a bit of resentment or anger over small things, but she has been almost paralyzed by it. And she worries, of course, about her 7 younger siblings.

I had no idea that was the purpose of wearing long skirts all the time! I work at a tourist attraction and we get lots of groups of the really long hair/long denim skirt women through. Now I'm not going to be able to help staring at their crotches.

I find it strange that a woman who wears long skirts has short hair! I would have expected her to consider that "man hair", and therefore totally inappropriate for a woman of god. drool

Did you see she blogged about that (I read it because it was linked in the long skirts post)?  Kind of blew my mind that someone crazy enough to wear skirts all the time would think hair wasn't a big deal.  Usually those two go hand in hand!
