Get the Most Outta Ya Womb While Ya Can! meowed

It was then that I began my “Mama preaching session”.  (YES – women are to be silent in the church) but not with our children!

WTF?  confused

Since she's throwing out Bible quotes, 1 Timothy 5:8:

Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Yeah, I don't feel like pushing out a ton of kids while you can't keep up is really taking care of your family.  uh

I was raised fundie (IFB) and while being totally submissive to our fathers and husbands was drilled into us. Signing our purity over to our fathers, creepy shit like that.
Women being silent in church is something I haven't come across.

I have noticed people like Steve Anderson preaching it.
And David Rodriguez is such a failure at his own ministry, he tends to latch on to any loser that will support his extreme fundamentalist beliefs. I wouldn't be shocked if he has started watching Anderson's sermon videos and preaching it to his family.
I'm sure Jill thinks Zsuzsanna's disgusting and hate filled blog is just lovely and oh so Christian.

I doubt either Rodriguez could follow some of the fancy vocab, correct grammar, and compound and complex sentences that Zsusz uses.

Oh my god, the self-righteousness of these idiots is insane. Did anyone catch David claiming men were leering at Jill while they were passing out religious bullshit after the 4th of July fireworks? I bet those men were just trying to figure out if they time-traveled back to the 80s.

"Is that woman and all those kids gonna start singing "We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off (to have a good time)" or just hand these cheap, tacky looking tracts that are goin' straight in the recycling bin?"

"I had no idea you can still buy Aziza's Colors to Go blue eye shadow!"

And I'd add that I bet Jill wouldn't like Zsuzs's blog.  After all, Zsuzs looks like she barely brushes her hair half the time, while Jill is all about appearance and doing herself up like she's about to sing on Solid Gold.

I meant to add that Jill's sister is a natural beauty. I bet Jill would look way better if she toned the hair and make-up down.

Is her family all in Gothard's groups?  Jill's got her family in ATI (hence why she's  been at Bates' functions).  Because her hair style, while totally '80s hair band vixen, is in line with Gothard's love of curls, long curls and waves, and teasing. I don't remember the exact teachings for make up from my family members who were Gothard, but I do remember that using make up to look feminine and to draw eyes to your "countenance" was okay, even encouraged. Though Jill tends to look like she's used Homer Simpson's make up gun set to "cheap prostitute in the meatpacking district." Which is probably not what Gothard intended…sani_elephantdance

As far as I know, they are not involved with IBLP/ATI "officially".
That costs money they don't have.
They attended the Bates events because they posted on social media, if you posted your address, they would send people the extra invitations. And it was at Erin's wedding where they finally met Gothard.
Also, anyone can attended the Bates "church" because it is held in different hotel conference rooms, gyms and places like that.
They try their hardest to latch on to the popular fundie families.

ETA- Jill is definitely NOT what Gothard had in mind.
She is a boastful show-off and that is what Gothard calls a "murmuring heart".

I don't think Jill is what any one has in mind! I wouldn't be surprised if her cosmetology program is embarrassed to claim her as a graduate.

I didn't know the Bates just invite random people who post to their social media to their weddings. That seems odd.  But can't anyone pretty much attend any church?  Except churches that really are in a home, I've always gotten the impression that churches are basically open for anyone to go to services.

I remember seeing Jill posting some stuff about Gothard/ATI/IBLP somewhere.  I was surprised because I really didn't think they had the $$$ to do ATI or send the kids to ALERT and JttH.  So I don't know if they are really, fully and officially, in any Gothard group or just more on the fringes and clinging to whatever "true" Gothard family they can.  They obviously know some of the big Gothard check points that would come from being in it or close to it. A few:

Quiverfull/ anti-birth control. Check.

Mother doesn't work. Check.

Father has his own business. Yup.

Learning classical instruments. That too.

No dancing and only hymns. Done.

Homeschooling. Check.

Strict dress code and no jeans and T shirts for the boys. Check.

Boys with short hair and long curls on girls. Done.

Father in charge and emphasis on female submission and children's submission. Yup.

Occasional fasting for the spirit. Check.

They've even posted the kids singing some songs that I think are Gothard songs– the "Smile" or "Happiness" song, and I've seen her post lines about instant obediance that are definitely out of Gothard.

So what's a "murmuring heart"? Sounds like a reproach to keep a woman from feeling too uppity and empowered, even about Jeebus, when there are far more important men with penises around to do the thinking for them. rolleyes

Reading this thread and following the Rodrigues is such an eye-opener. I thought being raised Catholic by an over-enthusiastic mother–who really, REALLY needed a decent hobby/outlet for her ambitions other than religion–was a huge pain-in-the-ass hardship. But my youth was one gloriously illicit walk in the park compared to these poor fundie b***hes…

I never thought about it that way, but that is really what it boils down to in a way.
Gothard's interpretation of Scripture is bastardized and has been under scrutiny since the 80's.
I'd listen to one of the homeless preacher's in Central Park over Gothard.
They have purer biblical knowledge.

I've had a few drinks tonight, enjoying the insanely beautiful weather in the 70's.
I can't really explain it clearly without getting on my rabid anti-fundamentalism soapbox.shutup

If you can stomach this link, it is a broken down informational on Gothard's murmuring heart bullshit.

I did not grow up Gothard, though I was adjacent to it.  So my knowledge is indirect. I may not be doing this justice, but it probably does help me keep some –uh– ranty-ness (not meant negatively)– off of my shutup.

As best as I recall from my "murmuring heart" cousin (who was male), a "murmuring heart" is a person that is always stirring up negative feelings in others.  So someone who gets challenged by something and complains is causing the person he/she complains to to feel irritated and then not "content."  Someone having trouble with something and asks someone else for help is then taking that person away from fellowship with God or doing more important tasks like grinding wheat for bread ( a Gothard thing).  Or someone who is always boastful or needs to be the center of attention. That person could be inciting others to feel envy or might be neglecting his/her duties to give the other person attention, or could start to resent the attention seeker for being an attention w***e.  For the "murmuring heart" person, there are a bunch of reasons why this is all bad.

1- if you are constantly upset, annoyed, bothered, then you aren't working on your contentment.  A very BAD thing.

2- if you are always looking for help, you probably aren't doing the things you are supposed to so you are neglecting your roles and duties.

3- if you are always looking for attention, you are probably neglecting your own duties to get attention instead.

4- if you ask for help or express being bothered, whatever, you're looking for someone else to help you rather than offering your heart to God for his guidance and lessons.

And yes. From what I've seen more girls and women are told they have murmuring hearts, ut I have seen boys that were told this too. Though it was always because they were asking for help in doing or learning something that was seen as a masculine thing to do or know.  So…. yeah.

Have fun with that!  Drink up!oregonian_winesmiley

That link is…interesting. The "murmuring heart" stuff is pure bullshit. The recipe section is actually interesting (is THM a fundie Christian thing?–it seems so many uber-religious women follow it and I wonder why?).

But the book about their son with the photoshop of him dancing on his own grave?  SO beyond f**ked up. I can't even bring myself to post the image here I find it so disturbing. http://www.themullettfamily.com/books/im-a-winner-either-way/  uh

ETA:

Spirits: So basically, calling someone a murmuring heart is just a way to shut someone up for daring to complain or question. How convenient.  I'm not surprised women get told it far more than men. Nice, easy way for the peens to quash any dissent in the lowly, unworthy ranks of women and children.

But how does Jill qualify as a murmuring heart? I think her sin is pride and boastfulness (although she is forever proclaiming that she NEVER boasts of tomorrow!), not dissatisfaction. Of course not knowing fundie logic, I am probably not interpreting her behavior correctly…

THM is a huge fundie thing.  Technically, the THM leaders say it was never intended to be a Christian thing, but they are religious Christians and apparently they make no effort to moderate forums to have some spaces where religion is limited. I wouldn't feel comfortable at THM, but I would grab some recipes.  Some THMers: Zsuzs. Jessa has posted on social media about it.
