I usually love a good Fundie trainwreck but good grief, I can't with this people.  The dad looks exhausted and the mom has that weird glassy eyed smile of a hostage on Thorazine.  Those kids are weird too.  Too much Jim Bob and Michelle wannabes for me.

Love your entire post.  But the bolded part is just pure gold!laugh

I just want to know how these fundie moms stay so skinny popping out kid after kid. I only have two and I'm like permafat.

Hi, this made me snort coffee up my nose and do a spit take so I decided to come out of hiding/lurking and actually congratulate you for that.  (cough, cough, snort!)

While I'm here, has anyone else noticed that this family (and so many others like them) have smiling mouths but strangely emotionless eyes?  Even the children look sad, like someone told them to smile for the camera but all they could manage was tightening the bare minimum of their mouth muscles…

Well if they hang out with the Pearls then they probably use their "techniques" (abuse) on their children. According to the Pearls, anything less than a smiling face is rebellion. The only emotion allowed for children is "happy", otherwise they get beat. The Pearls literally tell parents to beat their children until they are smiling. It has nothing to do with nurturing this little soul into a healthy, good person but breaking their spirit and using terror and fear to control them. They advocate that parents start spanking their children full-on starting at 6 months. I have an 8 month old and the thought of hitting him is barbaric to me– he wouldn't even begin to understand why, just that mommy is making him hurt. Ugh, it makes me want to vomit.

I think a good indication that those kids are not getting the nourishment and nutrition they need is their teeth– all of their teeth look very weird, and not in a "they need braces way" but like, you can tell there's some sort of chronic nutritional deficiency going on. So incredibly sad.

When you have that large of a family and your "provider" has one of those psuedo fundie jobs, there's not a lot of food to go around. Guess who's last in line for seconds at the dinner table – Mom.

I agree. She ate two tablespoons of old, room-temperature ice cream out of the trash and b***hed about her kids wasting food. This family is going hungry.

Well everyone but the dad.  He appears to be quite well fed.

That's true, I hadn't thought of that.  So horrible.  I hope that's not the case, but anyone who would attend one of the Pearls' events and cozy up to "DEAR" Debi Pearl for a photo clearly doesn't think there's anything wrong with hurting a child.  Nauseating.

I can't remember where I read that the Duggars used "blanket training," but I had to look it up because I didn't know what it was.  Apparently once babies are old enough to crawl off a blanket, you tempt them with toys and such, then if they get off the blanket, you slap their hands and put them back on the blanket.  It's a method to keep them in one spot, too afraid to explore.  WTF?!?!?!?  It made me furious to even think about it.

You may have read it on the massive TWoP thread first before it was closed. That's where I first heard of the Pearls' training methods –this was back in the day before the Duggars had a series, only specials. The Duggars also mentioned it in their book that was released in 2008 or so.

I've only been exposed to funnies in the last few weeks thanks to GOMI. I can't look away. I'm just in shock that people voluntarily live this way and raise their children like this. It's really depressing while also a train wreck I can't help but watch. I've heard of the Pearls on the news and was disgusted, but that's probably because I was raised by parents that nurtured my free spirt and thought kids should have some spunk. So the Pearls thread was taken off GOMI? I'm bummed that I'm too late to what I'm sure was a complete shit show, but it's probabaly good for my blood pressure because I'm sure it would make my blood boil.

As for that video, I feel really bad for the oldest daughter. I don't know why but she seems to be in the saddest position to me. And the moms hair looks like that of an 80's hooker. So does her eye makeup in some of the pictures on the blog.

These are my new favourite people. That mom is actually ridiculously pretty. Shame the dad is so damn hideous..and too many of those kids took after him.

Didn't realize being a cosmetologist was the lord's work, but sure. Okay. Good to know. lol

I think the mom is pretty, too, in a Peg Bundy-meets-80's-country-singer kind of way.

Her story made me sad.  She was only four years old and her parents had already scared her so badly about needing salvation that she cried.  That's just mean!

I don't know what she means when she says they carried her upstairs and led her to the Lord but it sounds ominous.

I find it very interesting that in her blurb (I assume) she wrote about herself, she mentions the childhood "salvation" story, being homeschooling and her wedding proposal, but almost nothing about her life as a mother NOW.  A few small details but not much.  Who is she as a person?

If you want people to have genuine interest in your blog, you have to have more than just a one-dimensional façade.

This is the first Fundie thread I've dipped into on GOMI and I'm absolutely horrified (and mesmerized). Are they all like this family? Please tell me this is an exception. Also please point me to some other juicy threads!

On the wife's "About Me" page: "One night at the dinner table, when Jill was only four years old, she began to cry and told her parents that she wanted to be saved! Jill still clearly remembers that night and how her daddy carried her up the stairs with her mom close behind and they led her to the Lord."

Ummmmm, WTF? What was up those stairs waiting for her anyway? uh  So. Creepy.
