According to the Dargers' website, they are Independent Fundamentalist Mormons. I'm not sure exactly what that means, but it's more forthcoming than the Browns, who vaguely (and with great indignation) reference their "beliefs" all the time, but never actually say what they are. And I agree with whoever said it's fishy for them to deny any knowledge of what went on in the Warren Jeffs community. That clip of Christine, played over and over, feigning "I had no idea men could be such bastards" … umm, really? Hard to imagine that she was unaware that (1)men in general can mistreat women, and (2)women and children were mistreated in the Warren Jeffs community (which has been plastered in headlines for years now). They could disassociate themselves from FLDS without pretending they're unaware that it exists and that some abuses have been associated with it.

That was me, and thanks!  To be clear, I have lots of Mormon friends who do not practice polygamy, so I completely understand that polygamists are a minority in terms of Mormonism.  What confuses me, like ReaderofSnark pointed out, is that they talk about their beliefs, but never exactly explain what they encompass.  I'm curious how many polygamist Mormons are modernized like the Browns and Dargers.  Also, I checked out the Dargers book once from the library, but never got around to reading it.  Must reserve again!

I thought Christine gave the leader of the "Hope" non-profit group a really hard time.  If she didn't know anything about the group and felt uncomfortable with Aspen going, why not research it or speak to the leaders instead of relying on outside gossip she had heard?  That could have been an opportunity for her to learn what was going on in the Kingston and Jeffs communities to brace herself for some of the stories the escapees shared with Christine's kids and later, herself.

The Dargers are another polygamous family that went on vacation with the Browns a couple episodes back. They were a much more articulate about their beliefs and lifestyle than the Browns have been. I just googled and it looks like they have a website, and a book out: http://lovetimesthree.com/love-times-three-the-book/  … they were interesting because they appeared as more of *one* family unit (all live under the same roof, not afraid to show affection in front of one another, eat dinners as one big family, drive big vans all together instead of splitting off in smaller cars, even work out together as a family) than the Browns, with their multiple houses, impractical cars, constant bickering, fear of even acknowledging out loud that they are intimate with Kody behind closed doors (which, btw, is that weird to anyone else? whenever sex comes up at all, they're like "oh noooo, we don't discuss that, never, nothing to see here" – Meri and Kody didn't even want to answer the fertility doctor's questions about frequency of sex!).

I've always been under the impression that the Dargers/Browns beliefs are essentially those of the FLDS, just without the child bride/following Warren Jeffs aspect (just a more modern version of FLDS, I suppose).

And the Darger wives aren't just sisters – they're TWIN sisters. The one was previously married and after her divorce was all "hey sister's hubby, whatup?"

ETA: I've read wayyy too many books written by women who have escaped the FLDS – most of them mention about how there was a big falling out between some FLDS and the prophet before Warren Jeffs (I think it was Jeffs' father?), resulting in a lot of the FLDS leaving and creating their own religion – I'm wondering if this is the religion that the Browns/Dargers belong to?

The Browns are memebers of the AUB (Apostolic United Brethren) church. There are a few different churches/sects that practice polygamy. That's my understanding from reading other site st and mainly sisterwivesblog.blogspot.com( love that site).

Actually I mainly watch them for the train wreck. They are nothing but scammers. Each wife has gone through bankruptcy at least once, they have Recieved food stamps, even as late as during the filming of the show. They claim to be a united family but it is obvious from season to season and their bloom how the women cannot stand one another. Well apart from Robyn and Meri, but that's just because Robyn wants to be Kody's favorite, and for the most part she and Meri seem to be.

Jenelle has left once already (it was in the book) due to problems with Meri, and Jenelle was also married to Meri's brother before getting together with Kody. In many ways Meri made Jenelles life a hell. Then Christine came in and things got better according to Kody.

They can't afford those houses because they still own the house in Utah, and have a mortgage out on that home. If they do by some chance get the four houses, you watch they will be foreclosed because once the TLC gravy train stops that's it. None of the adults have an actual job, they promote some green drink and do apoerences but it isn't real work and mysisterwives closet doesn't bring enough revenue, considering their stock is so limited, targets sister wives and it is ridiculously overpriced from junk, you can buy crap like that for $5

Meri is nothing but a selfish b**ch because as much as she claims to care about her bonus children, really she doesn't. Jenelle says there have been times where she was worried about putting food on the table for her kids, because Meri wanted a big house to rent. I remember I think it was in season one, in one of the first episodes Meri said, Mariah gets everything ( her daughters) and Jenelle basically said she can't do that and if she can't afford something that month, she can't so her kids go without.

Kody is no father, all he does is make these kids, but there have been times when he has not seen his kids for days on end. I don't call that one family, they are basically his girlfriends whilst he has one legal wife,

I can't imagine why anyone would want to live such a life. Jenelle would be so much better off without him and without constantly worrying about finances.

Robyn has such a victim complex, she makes her ex out to be a devil, and apparently she took on her debt just to keep the piece. Well some of that debt was for Victorias Secret, I highly doubt her husband was shopping there, it was her.

oooooh is this back on? YESSS!

What I want to know is, does he have sex every single day? I know he alternates each night with a different wife to make it fair, and I'm assuming only spending the night with your husband every four nights you would want to have sex? no?

The Jenelle Meri drama was in their book. As was the Christine nacho incident when ako day totally got disgusted by Christine, this was back before they married.

You can get all the scoop on the blog Sisterwivesblog.blogspot.com it is not run by them, and a lot of into is also in the comments. I love that blog, any dirt that is in the Internet or available about them, even public record documents about the bankruptcies and all is in that blog,

I also love Big Love. Just heading through season 5 now and I'm very close to killing Bill. I think Ana and Goran might help me.

It's hard not to speculate about this! I don't get the sense that much happens between him and Janelle (remember that episode where he said she's basically like a guy friend? wtf?) or at times between him and Christine (so much tension! she's constantly creating relationship drama). Ahh this show invites so much inappropriate speculation.

Does anyone watch Bones?

There was an episode where a polygamist husband was killed and Bones was trying to figure out why his knees and wrists were so worn; and she got in the male's role of the missionary position and started thrusting and said "It's like he spent a lot of time in this position, doing this…what occupation would cause these occupational markers?"* Later when they found out that he was a polygamist, she excitedly told Booth that's where the occupational markers came from.

*quote paraphrased.

So the nacho story goes something like this,

Meri and Kody were newlywed a and along was new to the AUB (originally they were just regular Mormons or LDS) and he had met Christine at the church, (At this point he met Jenelle once or twice too) because Christine and her family were so well known in the church and she had a lot of friends she was always in their circle. He had apparently a sixth sense that their destinies were interlaced, his words from the book. Eventually Christine and Meri became friends and Amish was noticing that Christine had a thing for him, apparently Meri had inedvertedly told him she wasn't prepared to court Christine.

A year after they all met Kody organized a youth group to visit his family in Wyoming, Christine was in the group andfuring the road trio they made a rest stop.
Here is a quote from the book from Kody
"“When we set out on our road trip, I was convinced that Christine was the cutest girl in the world, although she was a little chubby. Back then, I was young and superficial enough to care about physical appearances. After we’d been on the road all night, we stopped at a gas station. I’d been drinking soda pop to stay awake and my stomach felt sour and upset. Just thinking about food made me queasy.
Christine went into the Quickie Mart and bought herself what seemed looked like the largest portion of chili cheese nachos that I’d ever seen. The sight of those nachos turned my stomach. I couldn’t watch her eat them. She must have been starving, because she was eating so quickly, and there was chili sauce and nacho cheese everywhere.
Looking back, I hate myself for the thoughts I had at that moment, but the sight of this chubby girl in my car devouring chili cheese nachos for breakfast put the brakes on our relationship. It brought out the most superficial and shallowest side of me. I still liked her—in fact, I liked her very much—but the nacho experience cooled my attraction a little[…]”

Now fast forward to 2012 and the Natelie Morales interview (2nd one not the first one from '10-'11) Morales asked Kody if size mattered so much to him that he was grossed out by a chubby girl eating chile cheese nachos, Kody replied "I will be honest I was not attracted to Christine in…any kind of physical sense. I mean I look back and in retrospect and wonder was that fair. But I can't even look there because we have children together…we have a relationship and we found our sweet spot…"
Then Natalie said " so you weren't attracted to Christine physically ?" And Kody said " That's an understatement" Morales asked. "I won't say that…but the nachos grossed me out enough to make me go OK, I'm waiting to marry her…"

Then Naralie asked Christine how it felt to hear that and she said it hurt and it is horrible. Kody said he was just being honest.
