I no longer can find the larger Healthy Happier entry, so I'm starting a new one.

Her post today make me ragey:

One of my favorite points of the evening was when Leanne, one of Uplift’s founders, asked the group if we each considered ourselves feminists. Until recently, I never considered myself a feminist. But, after reading the book and last night’s discussion, I’ve been reminded that feminism isn’t about man hating or not wanting guys to hold doors for women. Those are all the stereotypes that make the term so polarizing. Feminism can mean something different for each person but for me it means making the best opportunities available to women whether social, political, or professional.

I don't understand how any women could not support feminism and/or call themselves a feminist. It just makes people look stupid when they say something like "I thought feminists hated men and burned their bras!" as if THAT is what defines feminism.

If you haven't a clue about the core ideals of feminism, then stfu.

I can't bring myself to read her blog because the name makes me stabby. It sounds like the title of a kindergartner's book.

I think she's an idiot, but I actually didn't think today's post was that bad. A lot of people have those misconceptions about feminism–she certainly won't be the last to think it's all about ball busting and bra burning. I think it is great that the discussion changed her mind and that she's publicly labeling herself as one now.

Now if she could only begin to recognize even an iota of the privilege she has, then maybe she'll become more tolerable.

I don't read her blog regularly, but she comes off as someone who was incredibly sheltered her entire life…possibly still. Can anyone speak to this?

I mean, maybe I live in a liberal hippie bubble, but most adult women I know, know that feminists don't burn bras and hate men. Jesus.

Thank you for starting this thread, I was debating starting one myself after today's post!

How does a 30-something woman today (I think she's early 30s, at least, and she works full time, no kids) think that "feminism" is about hating men or opening doors?! What world has she been living in? How does she think the lifestyle she's living is socially acceptable without the help of feminism?

Yeah, agreed with this. I'm quite a bit younger than her and I don't know a single one of my friends – male or female – that have this idea of feminism. Personally, when they say things like this, I think it's jus an excuse for women to be uneducated and lazy when it comes to social issues. Like, It's not my fault I don't know shit, everyone just tells me feminism is about man-hating!". I feel like the man-hating feminist is SUCH a trope now that I can't honestly believe anyone takes it seriously. So yeah, if she did just believe this dumb stereotype, it's due to laziness, nothing else.

I'm just going to remind you all of the time she, quite literally, took to her bed after NYCM was cancelled because she was so depressed at not being able to run a race she trained for, never mind that some people LOST THEIR HOMES thanks to Hurricane Sandy. She has such a f**king sense of entitlement, it's sickening.

Thanks for starting a new thread! Pretty much every blog post she's written in the past few months has made me roll my eyes and search for the GOMI forum, but then I give up because I figure no one else reads her posts anyway.  But yes, she lives in a completely different world.  Also, I'm so tired of her b***hing about her long hours and work and how tired she is, when she stays at work until 7pm.  Sure, that's probably a 10-12 hour day, but the way she brings it up makes it seem like she's the only woman who has ever worked that much.

According to a blog post of hers, 'bear' is her nickname. Her bear logo is more befitting CCK's maturity level, though.
