Is it just me, or is C. Jane's latest entry (http://blog.cjanerun.com/) a little, uh, defensive?  I'm especially curious about why she's so hung up on people saying she "took over" NieNie's blog?  I've noticed that neither of them seem to mention each other much anymore…in my head they've had a falling out over who is the most awesomest Mormon Mommy blogger EVER!

Also, Courtney's ridiculous photo shoots must be stopped.    And both of them are about two steps away from basically selling sponsorship rights for their souls.

I think CJane meant that she was already a blogger when she helped out with Nie's blog after the accident. People must be saying that she only started blogging after Nie's accident. And she has to know it's true that her blog became so much more popular after they were on the Today Show.

And yes, that post was really defensive. I also noticed that they don't mention each other much…they both seem to really be focusing on their immediate families. Maybe with their parents away, there isn't as much forced togetherness?

and even when she gets "strident" the woman remains completely bland and somehow totally entitled sounding. ugh.

I find this movement within the Mormon church to embrace social media as a way to get the word out about their religion and it's "normalcy" laudable. (I would never convert but their PR dept. is doing a great job when it's not keeping the weirdos from baptizing Anne Frank) but I find the blogs themselves just like CJane's: ceaselessly bland and privileged sounding. And reveling in their ignorance! All these rich white women (and when I say rich, I mean with enough income to buy unnecessary toys like IPhones and own apartments in Manhattan, and when I say white I mean…white) trying to be exactly like one another. The rewarded hegemony is irritating.

I know that not all Mormon women are like this. Normal Mormon is smart and snarky and I'd read her blog! And Jenna Cole is wretched. And I think most of the "bloggernacle" would agree. But the image that they are embracing is not at all what appeals to me. And so, I do my best not to read their trite crap.

can you tell I've spent WAY to much time figuring out how I feel about this?

Great insights. The whole Mormon mommy blogger thing annoys me. They are trying to showcase the Mormon way and their proselytizing/entitled attitude is awful. It is hard to bash on Nie Nie since I feel sorry for her…but she is "oh so righteous" and she was taking flying lessons and her husband left her to die (sorry to be blunt).  She lacks intelligence and any free thought.

Here is a blog that used to mock the mormon mommy bloggers that was awesome:

That website is seriously so wonderful.  And written by a Mormon lady, too. Lots of regular Mormon women find these twee-oh-so-cutsey-my-life-is-hecka-AWESOME blogs irritating too. If you live outside of Utah, you find life to be much, much different (and normal) in the Mormon church.

The Mormon thing annoys me, too, even (especially?) when it's an adorable hipster blog like Naomi's. Because a large purpose of these blogs is to recruit, right? Nobody talks about it, but it has to be at least propaganda. Why else link to http://www.mormon.org and the Book of Mormon underneath your sponsors and your craft links? Why else send out BoMs to readers (like Nie?) Then it all starts to seem less relateable and more like "We wear topknots, too! Our husbands write us Valentine notes on the bathroom mirror. COME JOIN US."

Does anybody else feel like this? Or do I need to get my tinfoil hat back from the shop?

I feel that way too, but then again I did leave the mormon church when I was 19. (I was born in the covenant! woohoo for me!) so according to most mormons I have the least valid opinions on the subject. And I will stop because I still have a lot of sadness and even though I am ashamed of it, anger towards the church, not mormons per se, but the institution.

It doesn't really bug me all that much… I feel like if it's something you believe in and want to share with others, then whatever. If I had a blog and cared about saving the last of the four eyed green pigs in Australia, I would probably have links directing my readers to that cause.

I'm more annoyed with Cjane's pro-Provo posts. I wasn't aware that Provo was a dream vacation travel destination, but THANKS for letting me know where I can a meaaaaan Goat Burger.

Yum.

My problem with Nie isn't how she brings her politics and religion to her blog-it is how she handled the donations made to her family after the plane accident.  Awhile back she was defending their spending habits by explaining that the donations were spent solely on their medical treatment and their personal income was to be spent as they see fit.  Fair enough.  Then, last spring I borrowed a pair of Hunter rainboots to take on vacation.  I enjoyed them so much that when I got home I looked into buying my own pair but decided I don't need $115 rainboots.  A few days later I'm reading Nie's blog and I see a picture of her entryway after what must have been a rainy spring day-there is a long row of Hunter boots – a pair for each member of her family.  That was my lightbulb moment-they've plenty of money for crazy expensive rainboots, trips to schmooze with Mitt, Anthropologie everything (sweaters, mugs, decor) but need other people to pay their medical bills.

Mormonism is absolutely about recruitment. That's why they send out missionaries all over the world to convert the masses (I wonder how much money the church spends on these missions verus how successful they are?). It's also why they baptise the dead – EVERYONE should be Mormon!

Is that true?  Did she really say that?  I haven't read that far back in her archives, but that seems pretty far from the White in Shining Armor picture she paints of him now.

Yes-he left her alone in the plane rather than try to save her because he thought it was better for the children to have at least one parent survive rather than lose both.  At least, that was how it was explained.
