C. Jane and NieNie

What gets me about Nie Nie is that while she is quite sweet, she promotes a life that very few women can or want to lead.

She can't spell very well because she has hardly any education. She wrote years ago how she was so proud for forgoing college to have babies. I'm glad her marriage has worked out, but there's a whole world of women who felt the same way and aren't happily wearing Hunter rain boots, but instead, picking up food stamps and WIC.

The money thing is totally bizarre and something I've tried to figure out. My guess is they are swimming in debt. I bet they were before the accident, and I am sure they are now. How else, with Christian unemployed for months after the accident could she continue to shop, shop, shop nearly everyday.

I believe Nie Nie shops excessively to make up for the beauty she lost. She will not ever be the same woman she was before. While I feel sorry for her, and I think she's handled it okay, she has an obsession with trying to redefine beauty. One post she wrote said that "beauty is motherhood" and then her LDS movie quoted her saying "I am not my body." This is what happens when someone puts so much into their physical looks and then they lose it. Shopping and decorating have become her replacement. Utah is known for having some of the highest debt and highest levels of families filing chapter 11. It's all about keeping up with the jonses.

It's been my interpretation that CJane has always been a little bit jealous of Nie Nie. She's wasn't as pretty and had that whole messy divorce. Meanwhile Nie Nie is a high school cheerleader, popular and marries a handsome guy right after graduation. I think the resentment is evident in much of what CJane has and hasn't said. You can just sort of tell.

Actually, I have it on very good authority that they are LOADED. The hospitals wrote off ALL of their bills. Her sister Page bought their Provo house for them. She gets lots of money from her BlogHer ads every month. Tons of money was raised for their bills but they didn't have to pay any of them. They are definitely not in debt, far from it.

I was sick of Nienie and THEN she did that Christmas bullshit in 2010… soliciting all those handmade gifts for a showcase type thing and then writing very few reviews of them and sending NOTHING back. I couldn't believe her nerve.

Although, knowing the crap that some crafty people produce, who is to say she wasn't sent a pile of absolute rubbish that wasn't worth reviewing? There is only so many ways you can say "This is a piece of crap", and even fewer if you are trying to be polite.

I agree about CJane's jealousy of NieNie, and probably a little bit of "Hey, I was a blogger first and then my sister's plane crash made her a massive star" resentment.

I'm realllly curious about all the money stuff.  Does NieNie's husband come from money?  Is he even working now?  I think I remember something about him shilling life insurance.  And I'm pretty sure CJ and her husband are living off her blog and writing now.  He may still do a little acting on the side, I guess.

I like NieNie's style much more than CJane's…her "Retro house" is not my thing at all.

Utahns keep up with the Joneses no more than any other group of people in any other state, *except* they are trying to keep up despite the fact that Mormon women tend to stay home (one income family), pay 10% tithing (something their neighbors aren't doing) – they are trying to keep up with other families that don't do these things and then find themselves in more debt because of it. Unless you make mighty GOOD money, if they want to do the above (pay tithing, one income, etc) they have to realize they *can't* live like those that don't have those same econonmic considerations.

CJane has gone full Norma Desmond, with Chup as her Max Von Mayerling. Heffa's gonna spiral out of control one of these days…

CJane alternately fills my with rage, embarrassment (for her), and pity. I've stopped reading her blog. It scrambled my brains too much. Also, I'm not going to support her delusional, isolated, vapid, self-centered, lifestyle with my page clicks.

Sure some of it may not have been up to her standards but it wasn't until after she solicited the crafts that she said she couldn't review them all or mail anything back. There were participants who sent their crafts with return postage paid envelopes who didn't get theirs back. This whole thing was just not well thought out and I think she was overwhelmed with it all, but rather than acknowledge that, she said this past Christmas that she wasn't holding the homemade Christmas because too many people got their feelings hurt, or something to that effect. I would have been okay with it if she had said "wow i didnt expect such a huge response and I'm not sure how to deal with it all!" She just couldn't take any responsibility for the debacle.

So that makes me hate Nie Nie more. They got a lot of money in donations for her medical bills – and then she did not have medical bills, so kept the money? Nice. How is that in keeping with Mormon faith?

The irony is that she is actually giving the 'Mormon brand' a bit of a black eye with her constant desire for material goods, being less than honest about her donations, etc.

I actually agree with you. My previous comment was tongue in cheek!

I started reading Nie's blog right after the crash, before she was blogging again.  I went back through the old entries and was really rooting for her.  I continued to read for a while after she came back.  I couldn't imagine the pain she was going through and all of the adjustments.  However, I quickly tired of it.  It seems like her increased popularity led to entitlement, and her posts are mostly complaints, shilling for people she knows (Matthew Mead's Holiday book, anyone?), Romney love simply because he's Mormon, and displays of wealth and privilege that most people can't relate to.  (I can't get over her horrible grammar and spelling, either.)   I wish her the best, but I don't feel bad saying I don't give a crap about her blog just because she had the accident.

I really do believe that NieNie deserves infinite sympathy for what she has been through, and I am 100% sincere about that. I can't imagine the loss of self that she has experienced. It's truly tragic.

But: I am just so annoyed by how undereducated she is, especially politically. I get that it's her blog, and she can share her politics on it. But it’s clear to me that she has no idea what she's talking about, especially from her Glenn Beck posts. I remember her saying something like, "Look, Mr. Beck (blarf, Mr. Beck?) isn't the creepy man everyone makes him out to be." It's like she has no idea why people actually hate Glenn Beck; she thinks people just find him "creepy." She reminds me of an oblivious middle schooler, just parroting the political opinions of her parents, but in this case she's parroting the opinions of her family patriarchs. Also, she's a truly terrible writer. Just awful.

And then there is super smug CJane, who really does believe that she is the divinely ordained reigning queen of Provo. She, like Nie, is very cavalier about her family's safety, presumably because she believes that's so special that Heavenly Father won't allow anything bad to happen to her or her children. Evidence of this is the unassisted homebirth thing, and then there was also a post a while back about how her little boy refused to eat for a while. She talked about just waiting it out instead of taking him to a doctor, which I guess is okay, as long as you’re careful about it. But then, when he started eating again, she was all "See, parenting is so easy when you're God's favorite Mormon!!!" So what if something would have actually been seriously wrong with her son? Would that mean that God didn’t like her anymore?

They are so annoying, so confusing, so sheltered, so ignorant, and SO PRIVELEGED.

Yahoo. That felt amazing! Thanks so much for starting this thread, OP!

I'm just surprised that no one ever mentioned that she went skiing at 6? 7? months pregnant. I don't care how good you are on skis, that sounds like she's putting that babies life in jeopardy.
