I noticed her comments about breaking up with her fiance too… I would LOVE to know details but I guess she is too #headtravelblogger to share those kind of details. Which is a shame, because readers do love to see different sides to the bloggers they follow. I would be surprised if she has many genuine followers who read all of her posts anymore. I get the impression she just cashes in on her viral posts.

I want to know the details too!!!!! I quite like her blog and keep it on my Feedly, but I'm one of the people mentioned previously who doesn't travel much and isn't particular adventurous. She's the only travel blogger I read (she was the first one I found) so I'm definitely going to have to check out those mentioned in this thread + the travel blogging thread.

Oh wow- he seems absolutely horrible! She should have left him sooner but at least she's free of him now!

Eeww what a sleezeball he is. Good riddance — honestly he was fugly and his face/balding head with little tufts of hair still attached gave me the creeps. Glad to see she's being less vague!

Oh, that's interesting! In one of her 2014 yearly review posts (eyeroll to multiple year-end review posts, BTW), she mentions that her trip to New Orleans would have been better if she would have gone with someone was willing to drink and have a good time. Not quite PA, but just a liiiiitle edgy. I'm assuming the fiance (Mario, is it?) was the wet blanket in question. More about this double life as Marcus, though, please.

I do like her blog. I am not an experienced traveler, despite the fact that I'm living abroad and it's sort of expected of me, so the basics are helpful. I think she writes well enough and puts out information in an organized way. I don't need flowery prose. But she really seems like a dullard. She posted recently about studying abroad in Italy for a semester and partying it up with like 14 other American women, and I was like, "Oh, you were one of those." Totally fits the profile. But her blog is worth skimming.

Ugh, he sounds terrible, and I'm glad she's rid of him.

I did have to laugh, though, because I remember her writing about how she instantly met him and fell in love with him, and they got engaged quite quickly – so this is pretty much a textbook example of why you shouldn't rush things with a relationship and should put in a little bit of time determining that the dude isn't crazy.

I found the post where she writes about meeting him, and it's kind of interesting to hear her gush about how he's "the one" given how things unraveled. Probably why posting about your relationships online is not the greatest idea.

Oh dear! I guess she did say it was readers who alerted her to his cheating ways- isn't that crazy? Who is going round spotting a bloggers boyfriend in real life? I don't think I'd recognise the bloggers themselves. But it's good they did contact her. I agree though- it's not wise to post all your gushy details online, especially when you've not even been together that long. I feel awkward for her having it all on the blog.
When relationships turn out well I guess it can be quite sweet to read about. Another blog I read- Alex in Wanderland- is well known for 'live blogging' past relationships (although she has seemed to have stopped that with her current guy she's dating). Her previous boyfriend was quite a hit with readers I think. I myself was even quite sad for them when they had to eventually part ways due to different nationalities and lifestyles. I do always wonder what happened to the first boyfriend she blogged about though. I think he was English or Scottish.
I wonder if bloggers ever consider scrubbing their over-shared posts on their exes?

Maybe they like the attention. Or maybe it keeps people on their sites for longer as they hunt around for personal posts. (Something to do with bounce rate?  So sorry, so unadventurous, don't have a travel blog or properly understand blogging stuff.)

From her latest post about Christmas (http://www.adventurouskate.com/on-christmas-in-new-york/):

There was Christmas in Koh Lanta in 2013, a much more mature day on the beach topped off by a tasting menu at one of the nicest beach restaurants and getting to know classy couples from all over the world. As wonderful as it was to be on my favorite island, it was also a stressful and difficult day.

She's been dropping in little lines like that here and there.  I'm sure plenty of casual readers would click through the archives to see what was happening around Christmas that might have been stressful, then see her ex and click around for more over-shared info.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it but I'm pretty sure these "professional" bloggers know how to keep the click$$$ coming.

Gaaah, I feel pretty terrible for her after reading that – that's gotta be shit. We've all been there – we sweep the red flags under the rug and hope they don't mean anything, and then it all explodes.

That said, for a professional blogger, Kate's blog design/layout is pretty awful, sry2say. I don't think her blog is the most interesting on the planet, but she doesn't annoy me or anything; she should, however, definitely redesign her blog!

I would totally take all this ex bashing with a grain of salt. I remember reading the post announcing her engagement and thinking skeptically I don't think their relationship is as perfect as she is making it out to be.

http://www.adventurouskate.com/were-engaged-how-i-found-the-love-of-my-life/

Relationships are hard and aren't meant to be all sunshine and roses. I think if you enter a relationship expecting to be totally in synch with your partner every day for the rest of your lives then things are doomed to fail. Because the second just normal every day rough spots sneak in there is no mechanism to deal because expectations are so out of touch.

Perhaps they truly weren't suited for each other but I just don't think her ex is as scummy as she is making him out to be. I just think maybe their relationship had no where to go but down.

It's really common to ignore warning signs in the early/honeymoon stage, especially if you're doing something exciting like a round-the-world trip. I think people can make relationship mistakes without it being secret fodder for more clicks. Of course it's something you're going to be thinking and writing about as it happens.

Had to laugh at her 5 years post. So what she basically wants from travel blogging now is to just travel the world but not really have to do any work (all passive income and no freelancing). Yeh, don't we all! I still really struggle to even understand travel blogging as a full time 'job'. It's just nott a real job! At least she's not begging for money to fund her travels like Be My Travel Muse.
