Opportunistic and shallow. Travels for instagram likes. Everything I dislike about bloggers. sani_elephantdance

I guess I don't dislike her (and still have her on my feedly) because she has a 9-5 job and isn't a full-time blogger, but I tend to agree. But I also live in NYC, so she sometimes has good local spots and comes up with some eye candy.

I would also have to agree with the above. I enjoyed her blog a lot when she lived in Nice/Australia (originally started reading when I lived in Nice). But when she moved to Brooklyn I noticed a change in a negative way. Sponsored posts, less substance on the blog, too much "look at me I'm a Brooklyn hipster" kind of stuff. All a bit try-hard.

Oh, and she worships Joanna Goddard drool

Hmmm, I don't find her that bad in comparison to all of the other crappy travel bloggers out there. She barely travels that I hardly even consider her a travel blogger anymore – maybe lifestyle? I find she runs along with a lot of the trends like those latte + book instagram pictures every single person is doing out there. Overall I think she's okay… her posts are a bit hit and miss. Not too much depth to them though.

I read an interview she did about how she gets up early on vacation just to take a pic for instagram with the sunrise and then goes back to bed. At least she was honest but the girl seriously lives for trying to get more instagram followers.

Yeah, I'm echoing everyone here: I found her through some of her older posts and enjoyed them but I recently unfollowed her because she writes about nothing except being a hipster in NYC which I don't really care about. Still like her travel posts though even if I'd never wake up specifically for a sunset.

hey, i was wondering when a thread on C'est Christine would pop up on here. i like Christine and her blog overall. She's a good writer and takes pretty pictures. But lately I get a chuckle over how much self-awareness she lacks.

Her post yesterday reads:

"At the beginning of 2015, I didn’t have any vacations booked beyond a week in Paris with my mom. I had just started a new job a few months prior, and I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to travel much this year. I confided my concern to my friend Jillian…!"

Major #firstworldproblems if she is worried she wouldn't be able to travel much beyond her measly week in Paris with her mom. SO MANY PEOPLE would kill to be able to go to Paris for a week and it would be the highlight of their year. And this was a concern for her? She just comes off as living in a dream world and the influx of sponsored stuff lately is a little too much — wouldn't be a big deal if she posted every day to cushion the sponsored stuff but between the South Africa trip and then that Amex points thing, I think she needs to chill out.

Looks like Christine and her bf decided to let themselves be profiled in the NYT's great hate-read, The Hunt column in the Real Estate section. rolleyes

I just saw that! I thought the Vows column was the NYT's hate-read, but I guess in this day and age of real estate envy The Hunt is where it's at? In any case, she managed to get the reporter to shoe-horn in a mention of her blog.sangry

I just don't understand the point of The Hunt section in general. So you wanted a place in Brooklyn within your (fairly low) budget that wasn't a complete shit hole. Okay, you and…everyone else in NYC? snore

Not sure I'll be reading her much longer…which sucks. I've followed her blog since she was in Paris. What get's me is that her lifestyle has obviously changed — she has a well paying job (seriously!) and is very happy but still seems SUPER defensive about having what she has or doing what she wants. And 'Fixed Life Envy'!? She IS living the fixed life!

I don't have an issue with the change in her lifestyle — she deserves her success! But she herself seems uncomfortable with it at times and I don't feel like she's really explained it? Also, I don't get her boyfriend at all. I wish she was a bit more relaxed. You don't have to be SO type A all the time, ya know?

Hiya, this thread dried up several months ago but Christine wrote a post back then about GOMI after discovering herself on here.

http://www.cestchristine.com/2016/02/notes-on-being-unapologetic-and-celebrating-criticism/

And today she responded to a reader's question about trusting her when brands sponsor her trips.

I still read her blog but something about her just rubs me the wrong way

I used to read her blog years ago.  It made for some nice, light reading.  She seemed kinda basic but pleasant enough.

I'm surprised that she posted about GOMI.  I thought she was employed in the area of online marketing/social media or something?  I would have thought it would have been a bit more professional to simply ignore GOMI.  She barely has a presence at all here.  I don't think she lives off her blog so a handful of mildly-negative comments about her vanity project blog can't really hurt her livelihood all that much.
