Your mother I wouldn't for one second count Amanda as an international blogger. she's as American as they come. and with all her no-poo posts etc, I do count her as lifestyle.  and a lot of these travel/expat bloggers post about all sorts of shit, not just travel – hence lifestyle. I didn't see a "travel bloggers" section, but if there is than I'll ask PP to move this there.

If you want to make a SOMI thread for any of these people, go for it. and there's probably another forum for being people advice on moving overseas. this is a GOMI thread.

I have an interest in travel/expat blogs because I wish I could travel and or be an expat, but it's not an option for me right now. I'm not so desperate that I don't have standards for the blogs I read though and I thought I might find some other hams here who agree with me.

Fair enough. I think most travel/expat blogs are of the same ilk. I can't be arsed to read through her posts but from what I can see she's no different than any other travel blog I've seen or for that matter, bloggers in general: BORING. So few bloggers are interesting and write well. A GOMI for me has to push more buttons though. Gimme scandal and dishonesty!

Not sure what your situation is but perhaps you could volunteer for room and board or join an exchange club (forgot name)? WOOFing? Join a house sitting organisation (also forgot name) and look for places abroad? House swap? Any of those will mean your main expense will be airfare.

This blogger is an ESL teacher, I've done ESL and while I did enjoy it I wasn't exactly surrounded by rocket scientists as coworkers (ESL staff not native staff). I knew people who would only eat McDonalds and hang out in expat pubs and these people rarely bothered to learn the language or culture. I think most ESL bloggers will GOMI for you.

Well that sucked, I typed out a reply and tried to edit out all the other stuff to neaten but clearly that didn't work too well. Ugh. drool

I assume you are seeking a tier 5 visa of some sort for the UK? If you're American the UK-Yankee forum is massively helpful. If you're not American, it's still the best forum on the topic I've found (couple years ago mind you) bc it's not spammy. Although if you're not American and you qualify for a Youth Mobility Scheme visa it will be easier for you bc they don't require sponsorship if I recall correctly. See a lot of employers can't be arsed to go through the headache of sponsoring someone. Which doesn't mean it's impossible, so if you want to come next summer I'd start planning now. Whatever visa you do apply for they will require you have x amount of money saved up in addition to visa fees nevermind plane tickets and a place to stay.

I'm European and, looking at the eligibility for the tier 5 visa, my country isn't there. Probably because we don't need any passport/visa to move/study/work in European countries. Adding that I'm a student, is there any facilitation?

If you want to private message me, I think it's better for the other interested in this thread.

OKAY. This LIAL b***h seemed like a typical naive little American girl and, as stupid as that post is, I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt if she's only been learning about the brave new world out there for the past few years.

HOWEVER! On her about page, she has a picture of herself cuddling with a tiger cub in what I presume is Chiang Mai. The tigers they have are drugged – googling "tiger cubs chiang mai" gives you a shitton of information on this. If you give money to a company that drugs any animal for human amusement, let alone endangered animals (that will never be released into the wild), you deserve a high five. In the face. With a chair.

ETA: additional excellent points made in a comment on this post:

Any place that will let a human touch a tiger is doing harm to tigers everywhere… Even if the facility in question treats their animals in the best possible way. The fact that people are posting pics online of themselves with tigers means that there is a demand for this and there are less ethical people that will exploit that market. It turns every wild tiger into a source of potential income for a poor person living near a natural tiger habitat. Bag a breeding pair and you're set for life. Depending on the sub-species of tiger and/or the location, there could be less than 100 animals left in the wild. Best case scenario (the bengal tiger) there's 2000. With almost a billion people living below the poverty line within range of a natural tiger habitat, the more people that visit places like this, the fewer wild tigers there will be.

A tiger sanctuary, or reserve is a different story. If the tigers are given a preserved habitat to live a natural lifestyle and the intent is to increase natural tiger populations, then by all means visit these places and take your pictures from afar. But if they let you touch one, they're doing harm.

I can't stand bloggers (or anyone) like her and that "Mish Love Life" or whatever who act like they looooooove animals and TOTALLY researched it and it's TOTALLY okay so they go and contribute to this mistreatment of big cats.

Let's put my head in this tiger's anus for a nice blog picture!

I hate these people. This is so bad. Look at that poor drugged tiger while they pull it's tail and stick their bodies in it's butts. This one acts like she's a model. This picture is so cheesy.

I like to think that people like this are naive to the reality that large fuzzy kitties do not wish to cuddle them while sleepy. Although the the tail holding pic does make me feel slightly stabby, perhaps he's never owned a cat? What cat enjoys that?. All that aside, whyyyyyy would you stick your head by a tiger's chocolate starfish?

In the bottom two pics, it looks like he's grabbing the tail to verify that yep that's the butthole, come stick your head in hun! And she did.

I laughed so hard I snorted!!

Nah, they're not naive. They are just the type of people who want page views and do anything for attention.

How weird and awkward is it for the person who is there with them while he stands over his wife and does a photoshoot with a drugged tiger? And who are they even trying to fool? This doesn't look inspirational to me. The tiger looks like it's living in poor conditions in a cage and she's all "Look at me and my tacky headband, I'm a supermodel who poses with wild cats" Just no.

Amanda from LiaL has driven me crazy for ages but I cannot stop reading so I can rant about it later! The post that had me mind boggled was when they went to Hawaii and had a photo shoot because "It’s been a long time since Derik and I have had a legit couples photo session. Actually, its been since our engagement/wedding over three years ago, and I knew it was high time to schedule another one." yeah because normal pictures you take on vacation are just not enough!

She has also complained in posts about their vacation about too many monkeys on the perfect white beach………….

Some of the pics are kinda cute, but really, isn't everyone a photographer these days? I wonder if these constant photoshoots people do are a way to sell more packages or bc photography is accessible to the masses in a way it wasn't previously so more pics is the norm now?

Remember film? And making sure everything was just so before you clicked? And having to develop the roll at the drugstore? Now we all have camera phones and instagram.

I mean I get it, I love tech and all, but I for the life of me cannot understand this photoshoot business. If a camera makes someone a photographer then does that make the subjects models? Bc there is an awful lot of faux model posing going on. And I thought myspace poses were bad…
