The tiger anus couple above are "photographers" too ( Manchik ). They used Totally Rad Actions, now VSCO and just buy whatever equipment is considered cool at the moment. You can tell that they just follow fads and don't take the time to really care or understand about photography.

They copy a variety of other photographers and bloggers and have zero originality. Now they are trying their hardest to be Christ and Sarah Rhoads but don't have 1/100th of the skill or talent they do. BUT they have a big following because they spend A LOT of time promoting themselves on the internet and getting other Jesus lovers on board their homophobic hate filled train.

I am so happy LIAL has finally come up here. Besides the ridiculous photo shoots, this girl is just dumb. She once compared the current state of racism against foreign English teachers in Korea as being similar to racism in the United States in the 1960s. WHAT THE ACTUAL f**k. As I'm sure anyone with half a brain (even if they've never been to Korea) can figure out, this is just so far out of line. I lived in Seoul for two years and, yeah, occasionally things would happen that were annoying and they probably happened because I was a foreigner, it just boggles my mind that she could think this was akin to Jim Crow in the US.

Blah. I can't even hate read her anymore. Her severe lack of understanding of Korean culture and constant mentions of how OMG SHE'S AMERICAN drive me crazy.

Finally! Some people who know what their talking about! I have been reading some of the travel blogs by people in Korea and some are just ridiculous. Almost as rich loud as you idiots who "hate read". Almost.

Why people would waist their time reading people blogs or any other website for that mater is beyond me. Why people would then rant and rave about what someone posts and how much they dislike the person or even going as far as to verbally defeated that person is also something I can't grasp. So disagree. Who cares. Be like 90% of the rest of the world and don't visit sites you don't like. He'll if you not into watching donkeys do midgets don't go there! It's just common sense. But you pathetic moronic waists of space spins hours reading shit you don't like for the soul purpose of making yourselves feel better.

I bet if half of you had websites of your own and have us a glimpse into your life we would all see you're a bunch of knuckle dragging idiots who are socially awkward, generally ignored in the real world and, if you have actually made it out of your parents basement, lack the intelligence or skill to do much more with your lives than bash on others. At least your moronic Ineptness is apparent in your writing.

Kitten, if you lived in Seoul your perception is limited and much different than others who have lived on the outlying areas. I personally spent 4 years in the southernmost regions of South Korea and I can tell you around shipyards as in Ulson and Geoje the mentality and culture is much more close minded and SERIOUSLY racist. So get out of your little comfort zone in Seoul and travel a bit. One area of any country isn't any means of judging the entire nation good or bad. That being said, not everyone in these areas are like that but it's more common. Children in South Korean schools gives speeches on why the Japanese are so terrible, adults hiss and spit on the ground as foreigners pass, my company has several times refused to hire people based on the appearance of their CV picture or their assumption of their nationality, Koreans make comments all the time about race. If you haven't noticed these things or if you have and aren't willing to acknowledge the flaws in this society then my friend, to borrow your oh so colorful language, you are a f**kING DELUSIONAL IDIOT.

Get your heads out of your asses, find something productive to do, and get a life.

How on earth did you get a job? Your English is horrible.

See what you did above? It's called having an opinion. And we have ours. We choose to congregate here and discuss it. In fact if you go back a page or two you may note I dissented with some of the harsher opinions. I dislike tourists posing with drugged animals but I prefer to think they're naive. But still…cringe…head with tiger anus pics and tail grabbing…

You're telling us to go get a life for posting here so what does it day about you that you registered to make a comment? Clearing a bridge somewhere is missing its troll.

Anyway, back to the snark… yeah, LIAL's racism complaints seemed totally inappropriate to me too.  she seemed to go back and forth between "living in another country will open your eyes so embrace it!" and "people are so mean to us because we're American that we're moving to New Zealand."  obviously it's not black and white in real life, but the way she presents it makes her sound so culturally naive/ignorant.  it's like how Casey from True Colours (who has a thread here and I said this there) blogged about not dying her hair before trips to the Middle East or Asia so she blends in more with the locals and connects better to the region. WTF?

A lot of this feels like cultural appropriation with a total lack of cultural understanding, which makes these blogs either confusing or offensive.  You are travelers.  It's okay to be American somewhere else as long as you're respectful of where you are and how they do things.  You don't have to pretend to be not American.  That's stupid.

I hope Alice comes in and confirms that was LIAL. I'm sad that she teaches English.

Eh, not to WK but being abroad for extended periods can often feel like a balancing act between "whee, learning experience fun" and "wow, some people really don't like foreigners". It can be harsh and where expats hang out they often complain about this stuff. I think bloggers would be wise to carefully consider before posting anything which could be construed as negative or offensive but alas GOMI wouldn't exist if bloggers didn't do stupid stuff.

Mostly this thread makes me sad that yet another American is exemplifying the stereotypes about American travelers being ignorant of other cultures. The Thatwife thread is discussing this now. She didn't know anything about the history of the Berlin Wall, are you kidding me?

Was not aware LIAL was homophobic, where she say she was? I honestly don't see why people have an issue with homosexuality, if you don't like gay sex then don't have it! Simple!

Coming out of a long lurkdom for this. As a long-term expat and blogger, I just have to second (third? fourth?) other people's frustration about LiaL and the big lifestyle expat bloggers in general. I read so many lovely, thoughtful blogs about expat life and it's insane that they aren't getting the spotlight and this kind of stuff is!

Looking forward to further snark!

She had posted on Twitter a link to this thread and then complained that the initial post people were talking about she did not even write but was paid to post, then I guess she either did not get enough support or realized it made her look stupid because she deleted the tweet!

Ha, I can't swear this wasn't there before, but now the title of the post is followed by this:

The following post is contributed (written by) by site supporters of Living Another Language, not me. :)

so, better to be a lazy sellout (I mean, if you're gonna do sponsored posts, at least make an effort!) than a moron? Right.

I am very curious as to how they're living in NZ. Since they were ESOL teachers in S. Korea, and I somehow doubt NZ needs ESOL teachers, where are the visas coming from?

I'd love to move back overseas, but those pesky visas are getting harder and harder to come by… so I've always got my ears out for how people do it!

You can easily get a working holiday visa for NZ. I think it lasts for a year and gives you the freedom to do pretty much anything, but it seems that most people end up doing some sort of short term bar/coffee shop/hostel work to pick up some extra travel money.

And to the comments above, I've lived abroad for 4 years and during my 2 in Korea I did a lot of traveling to smaller cities outside of Seoul. While I agree that there were time I felt unwanted because of my being foreign, there's definitely a difference between the racism felt by white English teachers in Korea than the institutional racism in the United States pre-Civil Rights Movement. Also, Amanda continues to ignore the fact that things like discriminatory hiring practices and racism still exist in the US today…

I've been lurking here for a while (mostly staring in utter fascination at the India Alexandra thread – surely that girl's not for real?!).

Anyway, I signed up because I wanted to answer Drunk kitten. I'm living outside my home country myself so I read a lot of expat blogs (although I hate being referred to as an expat myself!). My favourites are:

Rhyme and Ribbons (http://www.rhymeandribbons.com/) – Amanda describes her blog as a "UK lifestyle blog", but she is an American in London.

A Girl and Her Travels (http://agirlandhertravels.com/) – Actually, Polly is back in the US right now but she'll soon be returning to Russia.

I swear neither of those is my blog. I wouldn't be daft enough to try and promote my own blog on GOMI!
