I really want this travel blogs thread to take off because I've been reading a lot of them lately. there are a few I like (tend to be more expats though I guess who have real jobs and get to know their country well) but there are so many insufferable ones.

I only just came across World of Wanderlust as bloglovin seems to be doing it's best to make me follow her! I couldn't believe the recent "How I Travel full time" post. She screen shots a comment from a commenter who  says that most people couldn't afford to save $20,000 in a year and that Brook was able to save all her money by living at home with her parents- something other people can't do! Brook is not happy about this- the comment is so rude apparently! She then goes on to admit that yes she did live at home and save the money (but don't forget, her parents never ever contributed anything to her travels you guys! Only all her rent and food so she could save all her own money!!). She made sacrifices you guys!

That post made me unfollow her, actually. There was nothing rude about that comment. I also prefer expat blogs to travel blogs, real people with real jobs instead of dashing around the globe in an insane tempo like these travel bloggers seem to do.

Feline Socialist: I LOVE your name! Literal LOLs for some reason.

I'm so over travel bloggers not owning up to their privilege. I'm an expat/travel blogger and I bust my ass freelancing to not work a full-time job but damn… Never in a million years would I think that I'm not insanely privileged to be able to do that.

Also, I'm always surprised when I read a World of Wanderlust post. They all get about a million likes on Bloglovin' and a bunch of comments but they're not insightful in any way. I guess pretty pictures of skinny legs always win?

I used to really like World of Wanderlust until I realised she writes the same content over and over again to sell copies of her book. Uncool.

Ugh, World of Wanderlust. She won a huge Skyscanner award reaaaaally early in her blog's life and just about all her travels are payed for by others – the reason she never mentions how she can afford it.

Reading the absolute crap she puts out – boring lists mentioning places she hasn't been and other people's photos half the time – is so f**king frustrating.

I finally had to reply because my least-favourite person ever was mentioned: Young Adventuress. I used to read and like her blog, until I realized she was racist, full of herself, and unable to accept any critical comments as anything but "hate." She really thinks she's this open-minded, traveling woman, when really all she is can be summed up in this screenshot from her blog:

Anyone else not like this chick?!

I have always had mixed feelings on Young Adventuress. I like to read some of her experiences, aside from the TL;DR aspect of EVERYTHING. (Seriously, EDIT.) But her personality seems really… Problematic? Unfriendly? Weird? Aggressive? Defensive? I don't know, she just gives off these very agitated vibes, like she's someone who you would always have to apologize to in real life because she would have a problem with every single thing you said or did in front of her.

Mmm yes, I totally agree. Take this post she wrote about how she hates being called "lucky." Like really, if that is your biggest problem, ummm, please just STFU.

I get her point with that post – life isn't as glamorous as her readers might think, she works a lot, etc. – but I really hate when travel bloggers write posts like that (Adventurous Kate has done a lot of them, too). Okay, so maybe being a travel blogger isn't as fun as people think, but the bottom line is that you ARE pretty damn lucky that that gets to be your career – most people don't get to travel all the time, and many people don't have the freedom to pick a career that's as flexible as travel blogging. And, when they whine about how hard they work? Please. You are not curing cancer, you're not doing a high stakes job. Get over yourselves.

That post is a perfect example of what I mean. She had several good points, and I understand her intention, but she was just… obnoxious about it. There is a way to say you work hard while still being grateful for your life. She IS lucky. She's also freakishly defensive over what is essentially a compliment from strangers.

When people say "Oh you're so lucky!" they're not saying "You do nothing and get everything, you lazy b***h." They're saying, "Wow, I'm envious that you get all these experiences. That's amazing." Just calm down.

Hey Liz, do you know what you would have been called a few years ago before the internet existed? A regular old backpacker. And do you know who would've "sponsored" you to travel around? Nobody. And do you know who would've listened to your every thought? Once again, nobody. Don't you think it's pretty lucky that you exist right now?

What's with Young Adventuress and all her random sponsored beverage posts lately? First she did a whole Starbucks coffee diaries series, and now it's onto Lipton. I don't mind if a blogger accepts sponsorships that fit their brand, but what do either of these really have to do with traveling? Just feels so stupid and contrived to me.

Seriously, this is disgusting. First of all, the word "blessed" has long since left the purely religious domain – I'm an atheist and I consider myself "blessed", it's a turn of phrase, ffs.

Secondly, whoever left that raging comment was absolutely right in that in order to have the ability to become a travel blogger in the first place, you have to have a certain set of life privileges that allow you to become one.

Thirdly, yeah, them acting like it's SUCH omghard omgwork~* is super obnoxious.
