In an effort to get a new subject going… How do you feel about these giant campaigns some tourism boards do, where they invite seemingly every single travel blogger on one giant trip? A few years ago it was Jordan, and I'm not sure who it is this year.

the crossover is the same in fashion blogging. The Parker Palm Springs is the first thing that comes to mind. And The Modern Honolulu in Waikiki.

do they think we are dumb?

It's surprising how little marketing people seem to know about blogging/social media. It's like they haven't realised that if you read one famous travel blog you probably read the rest too?

That said a bunch of UK style bloggers went to this vintage amusement park in Margate called Dreamland recently and now I 100% want to go and no longer think Margate is a sad outdated dump so … maybe I am that dumb chair

I saw a great post yesterday about a theme park called Diggerland.

http://www.diggerland.com/

Now I totally want to go there. :) Mind you, I am in Australia and Diggerland is in the UK, so it would be a long flight to go to a theme park. But how cool that there is a place kids – and even big kids – can use diggers!

Even if it's not sponsored, certain travel destinations go in and out of style and you can REALLY tell. So much so that I feel like all it is is travel bloggers trying to keep up with each other.

I remember a while ago it was Cinque Terre, and then Tulum, then Iceland, then the Philippines. Nothing wrong with these places at all, but every travel blogger seemed to be putting up the same posts just a few weeks or months apart (with no new info from any of them, of course).

To be fair, everyone goes to Bali because Southeast Asia, but I don't think it's related to any tourism board campaign (and I haven't seen a post about Bali from the bloggers I follow in ages). It's not like they need any help attracting tourists, they're lousy with 'em — unlike Jordan or Girona or Rotterdam.

That said, prepare for a bunch of posts about Bangkok in the coming months because I think TBEX Asia is happening there next week..

Seems like EVERYONE is going to either the UAE, Iceland, South Africa, or Sri Lanka. It's smart for tourism boards to go after bloggers&instagrammers but I would appreciate it if they didn't post about doing the same 5 activities everyone else posts about.

This looks AMAZING. My nephews (*cough* me *cough*) would be all over that.

I used to live near the Diggerland in Devon. Never been as I have a phobia of diggers!

It's definitely about to happen with Bangkok. There is also a Finland trip coming up. Brace yourselves!!

I actually don't mind when they all go on the same one, but I hate when they pretend as if they were there on their own or "having a crazy adventure" when in reality they were on a tour getting shuttled around.

Also awkward when they don't give consistent stories/facts – you can see who the liars are :P

Oh I remember that, it's because TBEX was held there and a lot of attendees went on press trips run by the tourism association. I guess it worked for them!
