Reviving this thread because I found a lot of great podcasts through this. Thanks for all the great suggestions!

I feel a bit conflicted about Stuff Mom Never Told You. Their content is always interesting, timely, engaging, and well-researched. However, occassionally I find myself irritated by their voices. Sometimes I think their tone, cadence, and even word choice sounds too singsong-y and breezy during serious, difficult topics. It particularly bothered me during the recent episode on heroin addiction. Does anyone else feel this way? I'm wondering if it's just me.

It's not just you…. The failure to adjust their tone for serious topics has made me skip some episodes all together.smiley-signs064

Thanks, r4l! Glad to know I'm not alone.

Yup, I hated all of the "ladyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy" singsongy stuff (our little ladyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy brains couldn't handle that!) and I get that it's a joke, but it's overused.

Thanks, r4l! Glad to know I'm not alone.

I wrote an email in response to a show they did where I disagreed with something that was said and added a few links to peer reviewed articles backing my opinion. I really just wanted to share my point of view and did not expect any reply or acknowledgment on the show on the matter. What made me stop listening is that one one of the hosts decided to call the email out on their personal Twitter, with a gif saying that this person needed to step off and that they did not know what they were talking about. I was so shocked at that behavior I decided to stop listening. I did write to the show saying I was appalled that instead of just ignoring the email that one of the hosts thought taking it to their personal account was the best course of action. At that point I also looked at their Instagram and they had taken pictures of cars in a parking structure with visible license plates calling them shitty drivers which further supported my choice to stop listening.

Yes! I completely agree. I also find myself irritated by their overuse of non-descriptive filler words, like "super" — in recent podcasts, they've described things as suuuuuper problematic, suuuuuper interesting, suuuuper dangerous, etc. Please, choose a better word!

Wow! Thanks for sharing this anecdote! It's disappointing to hear that they couldn't manage to find a constructive or meaningful way to engage with your feedback, and instead got huffy about it in social media. This definitely causes me to lose respect for them.

It made me lose respect too and I was disappointed because the other "Stuff…" podcasts are really great and their hosts seem engaging and gracious to varying points of view.

I've been listening to the 'Year of Polygamy' podcast series from Feminist Mormon Housewives and wow, it is fascinating. I'm a heterodox Mormon (an evil Mormon, according to my husband) but I think this would be interesting to anyone who's interested in religion or the history of the American West.

Someone upthread recommended hahas for hoohas, and it regularly has me laughing. Today I was listening to Anna and Susannah talk about their dogs eating their kids' poop. It was hilarious. Unless you don't like poop. Also, they talked about barf, so if you have anxiety about puke, don't listen to that one. Sidenote: my meds for anxiety about puke are working! ;)

I am such a fan of 2 Dope Queens. I second/third the suggestion.

I've recently started listening to The Guilty Feminist – two comedians based in the UK, and they record them live. The most recent on was on not having kids, and it was really good. Worth a listen!

I really like Sorta Awesome. They are a bit too churchy for me and they talk too damn much about personality typing but they always have good conversations and a positive outlook.

I've found so many great new podcasts from this thread, so thank you!

My latest find is called "The Megan and Rachel Show". It's just 2 smart, funny friends, chatting about smart, funny things.  Love that they sounded completely relaxed and confident, right from the first episode!

Does anyone listen to Mother May I Sleep with Podcast?   She reviews Lifetime movies.  I love the content and guest stars, and Molly is really funny but she sounds progressively more high as the podcast goes on.  Anyone?8

Recently, I've been enjoying the Tea & Tattle podcast. Two women talking about lifestyle topics, and sometimes interviewing writers. It's not too deep, but I like this kind of conversational podcasts. And I looove their accent (they're British) !
