I don't have kids but…does the way she rewards or treats the boys to food a good idea since both she & the husband have weight issues?

"Noah is at a sleepover tonight, so I wanted to do something special with just Eli." So they went out to eat.  She didn't post his meal but it's usually some huge plateful.

I'm not surprised that she rewards the boys with sugary shit. After all, this is a woman who pulls her kids out of school (on separate days, no less) so they can skip school and she can treat them to a 'special' day. One of the boys even told Katie that he didn't want to skip school because he didn't want his teacher to be mad. So Katie e-mailed the teacher to get her 'OK' so that he could skip. WT-LIVING-F. This is infuriating and insulting to any educator out there.

Sorry, but that is stupid bullshit criticism. My mother, who is also an "educator," routinely let me take "mental health days" in elementary school (one year I missed 19 days of classes, just under the legal limit) bc she knew I was smart (I maintained a 4.0 throughout my entire time in school) and she knew that school was really boring and stressful for me (I was teased a lot for being smart and "uncool"). My mom would also take a day off once a year for us to have a "special" day with her. And it was pretty effing special. I'll never forget those special days or my mother prioritizing her kids' health and happiness. So I'm going to WK the shit out of RfC for doing that.

I was an educator as well. While school is important, I think you guys are overestimating what kids do in school- especially elementary. Between all the transitions, recesses, lunch and specials (music, art, gym) there are maybe 2 hours of actual learning.

If you want to snark, I say find something worth snarking on. dance

Um, hello. Who are you to decide for ME what is worth snarking on? Nobody. That's who. I stand by my snark so snark off! hi-103

I'm quoting you here…finger

…anyway………

I think it's really sad that they had to turn down their free thing from mrs. fields because she would have eaten it before they got home. It just seems like she has no control over what goes in her mouth when she puts it that way.

I agree. I really do get not having certain foods in the house or throwing foods out when they become a problem, BUT the extent to which she has to go with it is a little ridiculous. Can't just throw something away, she has to put soapy water or something else in/on it and throw it in the garbage, because otherwise she'll go in and get it out later? I genuinely appreciate her honesty, but homegirl needs some therapy.

I agree Katie may need therapy. Maybe she could get something useful out of her free WW meetings if she attended on a regular basis. Lots of people would be grateful for the opportunity to attend free WW meetings and Katie takes it for granted.

She claims to be thrifty but wastes money on junk food only to dramatically throw it away later. As far as that free Mrs Fields peanut butter thing.. why didn't she take it home and give it to her kids the next time they get a special treat? I guess she would rather go out with her boys so she can eat more crap herself.

Unfortunately her poor eating habits may catch up to her. Because the scale says Katie is in a healthy weight range that doesn't mean she's healthy.

A friend of mine lost over 100 pounds and kept the weight off for over five years. She worked out daily and not just cardio! My friend wound up in the hospital having quaduple bypass surgery. The doc informed her that tho she's a healthy weight now years of poor eating took its toll.

Never judge a book by its cover. I don't believe for a second that Katie is the person she'd like us to believe she is.

I stopped reading there regularly because I just can't find "health" motivation in fried pickles, pizza, McDonalds ice cream, sprinkles, Mrs Fields dream bars, etc. Yeah I get that she keeps the volume low enough to stay within the WW points range, but the food is total junk. And then when she's around more junk food away from home (Ragnar) she doesn't have any control and binges. It's like being a dry drunk. She's still eating the same crappy diet that made her fat, but just less of it.

I also can't read blogs where people obsess over fractions of pounds and are disappointed/scared by a scale reading a few pounds over the single number they have as a goal weight. My head can't go down that number obsessed road. I'm way more interested in people who have a goal to eat mostly healthy, exercise doing something they love and have a healthy weight range they tweak their overall diet and exercise into maintaining without worrying about blips of water retention.

I'm sure she must read GOMI. Her post tonight is by far the most positive post she has ever written. She just goes on and on about how happy she was to run her 4-miler and how the weather was perfect, etc. It's like she just went overboard on purpose to make a point. hi-103

Agree completely. I could lose a few pounds, but I really try to eat right and work out like a mad woman. I'd rather live like a real person and eat some fries or have an extra glass of wine than spend my days obsessing about a pound or two. I realize it's a slippery slope for a person who has lost a bunch of weight, but it's not how I would want to live. I have bigger problems than that.

I hope she is reading this. I think she needs a reality check on what is happening on her blog. As I said pages back, she seems like a nice lady, she has the potential to give out some really helpful information/be motivations to others but she's blowing it by being weird and obsessive. She must have a pretty good readership, but she's on the brink of blowing it if she doesn't check herself. We're not the only readers giving her the side eye.

I agree Katie is reading GOMI. She suddenly enjoys running.. really? Is this the same girl who spent hours trying to decide where to run and dreading it? She's constantly talking about how much slower she is now. I'm sure that's motivating to beginning runners and slower runners.

She contradicts herself all the time. It's annoying. I see very little comment interaction with her beloved readers. Also annoying. I think her readers are now paying for her 100pp cookies hah.

Since we know Katie reads GOMI what else should we share?

The fear of flying / dogs / getting stuck in a zipper?  Um, yeah – put on some big girl pants and carry pepper spray.

Why, yes, I am quoting myself here… wink

I'm getting caught up after a week on the road.  From 7/5, the Camelback review post:

"Besides, I was thrilled that I was able to carry along a bunch of stuff with me–plenty of water, of course; ShotBloks; pepper spray…"

Good, good…

Today?  What the f**k was she doing eating FRIED PICKLES?  Especially when YOU ARE ALSO EATING PIZZA AWAY FROM HOME?   Even with two slices or not, FRIED PICKLES?

I think she's ate them before.  Most of the things she eats I'm WTF'ng.  I guess I understand that you get so many points and can spend them on anything but she eats a bunch of garbage that I can see.  It's just sad that the little kids learn to eat that same crap.

So, this is Katie's sister…

I think it's interesting that her sister is so much more toned and "fit"-looking. I know that Katie lost significantly more weight, but she also had a lower-body lift so that really shouldn't be an excuse anymore. The sister says that she's following a running schedule that Katie put together for her, I wonder if she's also doing some sort of cross training as well (cause Katie sure as hell isn't).

^  No question she is weight training – you don't get arms and abs like that with just weight loss.  She looks awesome and is probably much more physically fit than Katie because she is doing more with her whole body.  Exactly what Katie should be doing.

If I had a bunch of time on my hands, I'd count up how many times she has gone out to eat in the last 2 months.
