should be thanking the creators of pinterest, because pinterest gave their blog  new life. I'm so sick of the cutesy intros before the wedding posts "ohhhh you guys I would live in this wedding if I could", "This wedding is made of the dreams I had when I was a little girl", "I can't believe staring at all this beauty is my job!!" And apparently they only let gushing comments through?

Next we had an order of fried clams, which were seafoodalicious

That's the schtick for most popular wedding blogs, isn't it? That's how they get vendors to post photos so they get free content. Inspiration porn for brides = page views.

SMP has really become insufferable since they launched SMP Home. It's just a big circle jerk of generic white-girl privilege "lifestyle" bloggers. Chevron and gold leaf and bar carts for everyone!

I used to read this blog back before I got engaged, and I looooved it. I dreamed about my wedding being featured. But then I got engaged and started planning my wedding and realized how insanely unattainable most of those weddings are. Everyone's in a size 4 designer gown with their model-esque bridesmaids in their perfectly mismatched dresses laughing with one another. There are the country weddings where the couple is getting married at the bride's family farm. Her grandma grew all the flowers and his aunt baked the cake and there's a chandelier in the f**king barn. Then there are the city weddings that look like they cost $100,000. The bride wears sparkly Jimmy Choos under her gown, the groom wears an Armani tux, flowers and uplighting abound at the reception (probably in a swanky hotel), and everyone dances the night away to a full band.

What drives me nuts about SMP (and a lot of wedding blogs, for that matter) is that half of the posts aren't even actual weddings–they're photoshoots. I mean, duh, of course everything looks picture perfect–there aren't any pesky guests cluttering up the shots (how dare they). It's just pictures of stuff made to look nice and models wearing wedding dresses. boring

So glad this is already started! Yup, I first started checking SMP in late 2007 to get some ideas for our wedding, but I wound up at OBB long term. Abby's (and then the underlings) cutesy, repetitive intros made me want to throw a virtual thesaurus at her. And oh yeah, dissenting opinions are not welcomed on that site.

Yeah, no. I really don't like Style Me Pretty. 90% seem to be the mis-matched, mason jar Southern barn wedding lately, and I just can't relate to that. Plus, the name really bugs me…like srsly? Style Me Pretty? No.

Yes! This. I hate their "styled" posts. How aspirational.

I had to stop reading SMP after just a few months, because I couldn't stand Abby's "voice". It was always "love, love, love" this or that. This was when she was just getting started and did everything herself. She sounds like an idiot, though I don't think she is. But I always wanted to know who those brides and grooms are. I often thought they weren't real. Great pictures and good concepts, but it's simply unattainable. A person could go insane trying to emulate that.

But Abby (or someone she hired) actually had a site very similar to Pinterest before Pinterest even existed. It was called Style Circle (maybe it still exists) and you uploaded "inspiration" for wedding mood boards. The site sucked. Sometimes they would run contests for the best boards and Abby would pick a winner. I suspect that the winners were often people with some kind of connection, because they were no better than other ones. I remember one that Abby chose was just a bunch of horses and equestrian stuff–it didn't have much to do with weddings. I commented along with some other people that the board wasn't that great and the comments got deleted. rolleyes

White Space full of

My best friend's wedding was featured but she is an event planner in one the big cites and has had a ton of practice. I'm currently planning my wedding with her help and lots of her knowledge to make it look pretty with my 5k budget in middle America. I think those sites set girls up for failure or over blown budgets. I'm getting sick of the washed out filtered photography. I love natural light but not to the point that I can distinguish details on your super expensive gown because the pictures are so filtered.

They feature the same wedding over and over again.  Over it.

Oh man, I remember Style Circle.  I participated in that for like a month while I was planning my wedding.  Got sick of SMP fairly quickly though, and moved on to Broke Ass Bride and a few other ones that don't exist anymore.

I'm so glad other people feel the same way as I do. Liked it at first, everything is the same now, no diversity or variety whatsoever. I've been at a few weddings that have been featured and the features show a totally different feel than the wedding actually had. After this happened a couple times, I take all posts (when I do look) with a major grain of salt and an eye roll.

There was a thread just about Style Me Pretty Living last year. I actually liked Style Me Pretty when I was engaged because it showed like 100+ photos from a wedding and I thought it was more realistic than some of the other wedding blogs that just showed the perfect details. I liked to look at the people, not just plates and cakes.

Style Me Pretty Living makes me rage. It's full of stupidity and there is no diversity in the homes (apartments paid for by parents).

There was a week all about strawberries that was particular great. Aren't these great tips?
