I was banned from commenting on SMP last year. It was when they did a series of photoshoot fake weddings with a Great Gatsby theme, and apparently it is not in keeping with the site's spirit to point out that that is an idiotic theme since it is a book about adultery.

That is hilarious–and this is like my #1 pet peeve about all those Gatsby weddings. I enjoy the book quite a bit, but it's all about the American Dream being dead and money and security triumphing over True Love. Not exactly the kind of message I'm hoping to send at my wedding.

I know. If people called it a "Jazz Age Inspired" wedding, I would be fine with it. But calling it a Gatsby wedding–complete with invitations to the wedding of Jay and Daisy (which SMP actually used), just shows that you never actually read the book, you just saw the trailer with DiCaprio in it.

Awesome.  Additionally, it is even more ironic that the entire book is basically a criticism of opulence and excess in the 20's, but people will spend absurd amounts of money on Gatsby themed weddings.

What's more romantic than adultry?  Killing children of course!  I bring you… The Hunger Games!

Oh my god, I was really hoping that you were kidding. Let's celebrate our love and relationship through references to a book where children kill each other and a sham marriage plays a prominent point, plot-wise.

I think my favorite ill-advised wedding theme is still the depression-era hobo wedding that some place featured a while back–it was an actual wedding and the theme was basically "vintage poverty." Hilarious! others-221

So if you put archery in there, it's suddenly a Hunger Games wedding? The clothing doesn't look very Hunger Games inspired.

The irony of the inspiration boards is they are opposite of inspiration.  Why on god's green earth do I want 40 different random objects on a table that people are going to eat on?  Or how about a random table in the middle of the woods for the bride and groom to eat on?  during their wedding?  WTF is the only thing that runs through my mind.  Don't get me wrong, I see they are trying to display what they CAN do for you.  Regardless…its stupid and irritating.  idontknowangry

^ I often think that these bridal fascinators or whatever you would like to call them will be the 1980's-90's wedding hats of the era:

That was such an amazing shitfest to watch. It took at least a hundred comments until people started pointing out how offensive it was and I believe that was only because it was featured on Regretsy.

Someone in the comments on the much whimsical hobo wedding mentioned this ball of tone deafness: http://groupthink.com/5820577/colonial+themed-wedding-included-authentic-all+black-servant-staff
