Too Emotional to Pack Utensils meowed
You all make me laugh. Especially when times are tough, (when I act like an adult and take active steps to address the issue).

I'm confined to bed with the flu (I got mucus-shamed by my doctor) and am missing out on some drunken Thanksgiving with friends staying in town.

Maybe it's the flu, but I just had a glimpse into the future and maybe Time will turn the site around, thus rendering this GOMI thread obsolete?

idontknow

ETA: Thanks to Marianne I finally felt like changing my username!

Get better soon. However, wouldn't they have turned it around by now? drool

I should be thanking her too. I hope she never changes. I shouldn't purchase shame her though, because I've lost two gloves this week and haven't replaced them.

Questions re Marianne:

What is this urgent, extremely emotional job situation? I've never moved out of state for work. Is it normal to move without much notice, not even enough time to find a place to live? I imagine Big M just put everything off until the last possible minute, intruded on one friend's couch after having another pack for her. The emotions must have been overwhelming and out of control, I bet even the Couch Barnacle was happy to see her sob down the street. But, IDK?

She must have some type of writing or computer job. Why the dire, superfast move?

I imagine the friend who packed for her saw her staircase sitting, single spoon situation coming. Marianne must emotionally struggle to get through daily life and a move just put her right over the edge. drool She must be exhausting to be around.

Cudos to I'm Expensive – your comments on the situation are hilarious! oregonian_winesmiley

In all seriousness, I once had less than a week to find a place and move. It was the most stressful week of my life. I ended up moving till about five in the morning. And I am not ~perfect~ I have issues like everyone else. I find Marianne's situation kinda baffling.

I think we went into xo as confused younguns and were confused/annoyed when the people we had looked up to turned out to be loons. Sometimes I think the joke is on us because Jane is clearly in love with teenagers and a lot of us … grew up?

Finally coming out of lurkdom to tell a tale of woe, because IHTM: I Pitched An xoJane Article (Because What Broke College Student Can't Use A Nifty Fifty), They Said They Wanted It, And Then They Ghosted.

Obviously I am now feeling quite unstable and initiative-shamed because I actually took the time to write the dang thing.  I also feel like there's probably some fat-shaming involved (even though I'm not fat BUT I COULD HAVE BEEN, YOU NEVER KNOW) but I still haven't quite figured out how that ties in yet.  Please send chocolate.  And a spoon.

More dirt! Who responded to you when you pitched your article? After you wrote it, did you actually send it in, or did you try to contact your would-be wowsucheditor and they just went silent?

I'm sure the xoPolicy is "You don't get paid if we never run it and you maybe don't get paid even if we do run it," but if you actually submitted it I wonder if whathisname fancypants Acting Managing Editor might cough up your fiddy in light of his commitment to getting writers paid?

Dildo fascinator – Glad you enjoyed my Marianne fangirlism. I was so stoked to see she's still committed to delivering the same top-quality f**kery I've come to expect from her.

Emily responded to me and told me they would send me a contract as soon as I provided them with a deadline for when I'd have the piece in. I gave them the deadline pretty quickly (within 24 hours, I think) and then it was radio silence. I waited until after the deadline I gave has passed and emailed her again asking if they were still interested and nothing. I never sent in the article because I sure as heck wasn't about to do that without the contract.

I've actually published an article there before and that time everything went smoothly and I got paid. I get the feeling that things are getting more chaotic and unmanageable at xoHeadquarters these days.

Maybe New Managing Editor is looking over your work to make sure it's not going to be an inane piece about where to buy gloves. And maybe…*gasp* he's getting someone to copy edit it
