I couldn't resist a marianne related name for my first xo-related username.

This is old news now but I noticed in Emily's gratitude article she mentioned that when her BOYFRIEND nearly DIED after SIX months of dating, it was very fortunate that his parents had already scheduled a visit for that exact week, which meant they could "provide childcare so (she) could be with him". Shouldn't his parents be the ones with first priority at the hospital, not the relatively new girlfriend? 6 months of dating is not very long in the scheme of things

Weird new forum; might make me come out of lurkdom. With that said:

Emily responded to me and told me they would send me a contract as soon as I provided them with a deadline for when I'd have the piece in. I gave them the deadline pretty quickly (within 24 hours, I think) and then it was radio silence. I waited until after the deadline I gave has passed and emailed her again asking if they were still interested and nothing. I never sent in the article because I sure as heck wasn't about to do that without the contract.

I've actually published an article there before and that time everything went smoothly and I got paid. I get the feeling that things are getting more chaotic and unmanageable at xoHeadquarters these days.

Thank god you didn't turn it in. I'd like to think if you sent them the article, they would pay you before they ran it, but I dunno. I don't have a lot of faith… Since the IHTM articles are flat-rated, I feel like the fact they never got back to you had less to do with budget and more to do with total incompetence, but it could have been both…

I remember a year or so ago someone complained in one of the open threads that they had sent in a finished article, didn't hear anything back from xojane, assumed that they didn't like it, and months later suddenly saw their article on the front page, without receiving payment or any kind of notification that it had gone up. I believe Madeline or Emily replied in their typical "Omg please send me your email we'll sort this out right away!!!" fashion. I remember seeing that and immediately googling if that writer would have grounds for suing them. Sadly, she still seemed like a fangirl, so she probably just accepted her $50 and shut up.

^ I also remember someone pitching something, and then seeing almost the exact same piece going up by one of their omg xostaffwritereditors. When called out the reply (Emily's I think?) was something along the lines of "umm this is totally unrelated, and not at all like your pitch, and also we thought this would be better written by our own writer, let me get back to you on this".

I just looked over the article again. It was her parents who visited. I saw it more like  a swipe at us. I  think some were speculating that she didn't have custody or at least a non-custodial parent since she had much time to be with a new boyfriend see hold up sex and long hospital visits. Right up until recently I  assumed the new boyfriend didn't have close relatives. His mother made a Halloween costume so he can play pretend for the night. She cares enough.

Emily like the typical xojane love to think of themselves as freethinking independent woman until a man comes a long that is. They'll drop everything. I at least hope that this reaction is reciprocal.

I love hate-reading Marianne. Still one of my favorites

eta: my quoting is messed up.

New forum, new name.  This one comes from an article where someone suggested we start calling camel-toes beauty wedges, so as not to s**t-shame or fat-shame anyone for having their clothes hiked up their slits.  It came to me in a sudden burst of inspiration.

It seems like people used to pop up in OTs pretty much weekly complaining that xoStaff hadn't gotten back to them about pitches or articles or questions and I bet a lot of those were due to Emily dropping the ball; I was not surprised at all that that's who FartsyArtsy's wowsucheditor turned out to be. I remember her posting a picture of her inbox with thousands and thousands of unread messages – I'm sure she lost track of stuff alllllll the time thanks to her (check one) [ ] depression [ ] anxiety [ ] panic attacks [ ] ADHD [ ] alcoholism [ ] shopping addiction issues [ ] poor impulse control [ ] recently sharted pants [ ] boyfriend ALMOST DYING [ ] being understaffed ya'll [sic].

Maybe she got tired of screaming her old lady problems into the uncaring millennial void that is The Hive.

Speaking of sad old ladies, didn't leet re-appear for a while? And now she's been gone again for months. Seems like she's given up for good this time.
