Anybody else watching Making a Murderer? It's been out for days but I'm only a few episodes deep. DO I EVEN BINGE?!

I thought I was going to be on the fence for a while but the defense of Avery and his nephew gets so ridiculous sometimes. I swear, they spent like fifteen minutes trying to say that police interrogation "broke" Brendan in a grueling interrogation of … thirty minutes!

I'm sorry, but I don't buy it that someone can go from innocent to "I raped and brutally murdered a woman" in half an hour. Just me?

And the denial of his (Brendan's) mom is borderline infuriating. And the way Avery comes off in his phone calls is, at times, extremely callous, especially to those who supported him, and continue to support him, for decades.

I dunno. Maybe my opinion will change once I finish it.

I am still on the fence. I have watched the first 3 episodes and I feel like it's going really, really slow and it feels a bit…disjointed? I think your sentiments above are right on and probably contributing to that feeling I am having. Also, I enjoy a true crime series with different stories. Not that I am opposed to an in-depth analysis of one person, but maybe not a whole "season" of it.

I've been binging Brooklyn 99, instead. chair

That was something I put off for a long time (is that also the episode where he shares the audio from "3 Guys 1 Hammer?" *cries forever*)

Um … ok, Carnation Massacre episodes, infanticide one, Rodney Reed (INNOCENT), road rage episode, Morgan Ingram and Lauren Giddings. Any time they have confession/interview with the guilty party and you're like … (we'll all die, I guess).

No, but seriously – the road rage one had me almost crying. It's f**king CRAZY how little people will murder over. I hate the world.

Does anyone listen to Welcome To Night Vale? I am all caught up on the podcast and listened to the audiobook and now I am feeling a deep sense of loss.

I'm trying Kakos Industries but it's just not the same. Any recs?

I'm do! I'm reading the book right now – I'm enjoying it, but I bet the audiobook would be even better! My podcast genres are all over the place, so I don't have any recommendations for anything similar, but I've heard a lot of good stuff about Thrilling Adventure Hour. I've got the first few lined up on my iPod, but haven't had the chance to get into them yet. I've also got The Message on queue for when I have some time to just listen. I also listen to a lot of Nerdist, plus The X-Files Files. U Talkin U2 To Me was quite amusing, too.

SAYER. The delivery reminds me of Night Vale, though it's more sinister and less feel-good. I want to like more podcasts, but can't into ones where it's just a bunch of jerks laughing at their own jokes.

I think you might enjoy "TANIS", which is very similar to "The Message" (fantasy story presented as a Serial-like audio documentary.)

And, if you're not completely put off by podcasts inspired by Dungeouns&Dragons, you should check out "Clerk&Dagger" and "Welcome to the Magic Tavern". They're both kind of Terry Pratchett-ish fantasy comedy though.

And there's this horror short story podcast called "The No Sleep Podcast", which is very hit and miss, but there are 2 episodes, each about 70, 80mins long, that tell one overarching story, and that one is a really good slow-burn. The episodes are called "Penpal Part 1" and "Penpal Part 2".

And I'll always recommend "Improv4Humans", but that one's an aquired taste.

I must have missed something.  In the OT, there are people talking about a Mandy boycott.  Can anybody fill me in?  I know it has something to do with Anthony Cumia, but I am completely out of the loop.

You can look into the "Keeping up with ex-xojaners" thread + the comments on Mandy's article about her failed IUD attempt. I feel like it's been summarized a bunch of times all over xo already, but the TLDR is that Mandy's husband is associated with Cumia, and Cumia was recently accused of domestic violence. Mandy blamed the victim and defended Cumia.

I'm reviving this thread for completely personal reasons.

Some of you recall me mentioning my gentleman caller.

Well, after six years, it's over. Distance is a motherf**ker.

So…um…where do I go from here?

I don't know you well, but I would like to offer wine and Internet hugs. I've been there. It's rough. But cliché as it sounds, it does get better.

Sorry, Benedick. grouphuggrouphuggrouphug

This is a super lame suggestion but at low points I binge cheesy sitcoms. And I know it's common/cliched advice, but exercise will help.

Um … I don't really have any groundbreaking advice and I'm really, really sorry.

Aww, I'm so sorry!  There's a good thread in the Relationships forum called, "How do I move on?"

Horizontal Ed is right on, it does get better
