I'm reviving this thread for completely personal reasons.

Some of you recall me mentioning my gentleman caller.

Well, after six years, it's over. Distance is a motherf**ker.

So…um…where do I go from here?

Sorry, Benedick. grouphuggrouphuggrouphug

This is a super lame suggestion but at low points I binge cheesy sitcoms. And I know it's common/cliched advice, but exercise will help.

Um … I don't really have any groundbreaking advice and I'm really, really sorry.

Sitcoms sound like a good idea. I got caught up on my Adventure Time last night. When I go pick up my smokes I'll grab some peach wraps and find something where I don't have to think.

Fortunately my job is my family, and they are super understanding. It's just little things, like I keep wanting to pick up my phone and shoot him a text about something random, and I can't.

We still love each other, which is only going to make it harder to move on. Tinder scares me. I've had terrible experiences with OkC, and I am apprehensive about dating in "Smalltimore."

But I also know I am not ready for dating at all right now. I have to focus on packing because I am moving soon.

Fondly,

I'm really sorry Benedickgrouphug Focus on packing and taking care of yourself. Good snacks and mindless TV are always a solid plan.

Aww sorry Benny. I remember you mentioning that it was a long distance open-ish kind of thing, right? At least you won't have to worry about running into him at every corner, that's already a huge plus.
I had a really really shitty break up a couple of years ago, and the first thing I did was (temporarily) shut down all my social media accounts that were in any way connected to him or his social circle. It really helps. If you're still on good terms with him, maybe warn him before you disappear from his internet so he doesn't worry or think you're completely gone from his life forever. Just… take a timeout from your friendship for a few weeks at least. And be really consistent about not contacting him.

Another thing that helped me immensly: a British quiz show called "Never Mind the Buzzcocks", but only the seasons hosted by Simon Amstell. I belive most of it is on youtube. I accidentally stumbled over it while looking for a sad music video, and instead of wallowing in my pain while listening to Radiohead, I watched a tiny gay Jew eviscerate z-list musician from the UK and eating pizza every day for about a month. Simon Amstell kept me sane, and I'll always love him for that.

This might sound stupid but when I was going through stuff, instead of picking up the phone or texting, I would write down what I wantd to say in the "notes" on my phone.  For some reason, it really helped and I was able to have those thoughts or feelings but was able to choose what I sent or said later when it didn't seem so reactionary.

We were long distance (me in Baltimore, him in Wichita) and since we both identified as queer we had a bi-pass that I used far more than he did.

He isn't active on FB which helps. I'm going to bring my knitting (keeps my hands busy) to a friend's house tonight and I will suggest Never Mind the Buzzcocks.

Also Janet Snarkhole a friend suggested the same thing to me with notes. My only fear is that I will compulsively check the notes and it will only remind me. Right now I compose them in my head, and then try to do something else.

But thank you, hams. Everyone wants to say GOMI is full of b***hes but we're b***hes with heart.
