Leet, Doc, YMB. Where are the commenters from the xoJane of yesteryear and which current ones do you wish you could put on Mute?

Did Sue K really flounce??

I was A BitchBerry, Not Yet A Twatgerine, until I finally embraced my patient suitor, the Victorian era, with open arms.

Doc got married to her girlfriend and basically lived happily ever after, I think. I saw it randomly on Autostraddle, which was a weird merging of worlds.

I don't know about YMB—I think I saw her instagram once and she seemed pretty happy and functional. Interestingly, both Doc and YMB lost a lot of weight once away from the Hive

On my mute list:

ButterSmarsh (formerly HSmarsh)

Webby Vanderquack

They're just too clueless to be true AND they have to respond to every single comment apparently. angryangryangry

I also wonder what happened to Your Gal Friday and why Sue K disappeared exactly at the same time as Rinny Lush flounced… chin

Also seems like the perfect thread to poke Am Not Tall. Hey, Allan, post this to your Twitter: puke

OT, but is Autostraddle any good? I'm currently looking for queer pop culture (gaming in particular) forums or blogs that don't make me cringe, and I often see Autostraddle mentioned, but after a quick google, I see they charge money for something called a+ membership? And they do "workshops" that look a little fishy to me? Are they good/professional? Have there been any embarassing or dumb incidents, like editor fails or overly tumblr-esque humorless SJWing or just plain incorrect information? I vaguely remember reading an Autostraddle article about the lesbian scene in South Korea, and several commenters complained in the comments that the author was outing people without their knowledge by publishing unblurred photos of them in the article, and that has kind of colored my opinion of that site. Should I give it another chance?

It's a website I "follow" on my FB but honestly, I don't click over much anymore. Sometimes I like their product guides (like, the best masculine-of-center underwear, or christmas gifts for nerdy femmes) but I'm definitely turned off by the escalating focus on branding. I hate it when websites become "BRANDS".

Sometimes they go on a huge SJW tangent and even the commenters are like "no, that's f**king dumb", like when someone wrote an article about how a study determining that queer women tend to be fatter than the straight community is bad science and shaming. Commentators ripped the writer apart for not even considering that there's tons of really plausible reasons (mainly poverty) that could support the argument and just purely going for the fat-shaming angle. There's other things I've read that have been completely tone-deaf and unfortunately the target audience seems to be college-aged queer women (or at least, ones who never grew past that stage)

The website is super tightly run, and I think the community might be too so I THINK there might be a sub-community for queer gamers. I'd love to have a great queer gaming blog/forum too, to be honest. I do a podcast with a queer friend on video games, but it's not fantastic and far from popular (Like, I think only my mom listens to it), and it'd be nice to get some ideas or feedback on what we do.

Woah thanks for the thorough reply! Yeah that's pretty much the vibe I was getting from AS. Bummer, because the frontpage definitely looks polished and inviting. But the drop-down menu with over a dozen main categories and, like, 180 sub categories is a little overwhelming for a noob like me. There's gotta be a better way to organize your shit, folks.

Ah well, I guess the search continues frown Not much luck on reddit either.

(You don't happen to be one of the Girl Tribe Gaming podcast hosts, do you…? If not, wanna plug your podcast? I'm always looking for new gaming podcasts by or with women!)

Hate to jump on the obxt bandwagon, but, well, yeah. Because she's the new YMB, present in every article's comment section and a top tier member of the Hive. Basically, I feel like she will post her responses so that they are the "right thing" to say…and then jump on all the other commenters with "that is so f**ked up that you said that!!" Hope that makes sense.

This is going way back, but Heatherette is a commenter I definitely don't miss. She never missed an opportunity to remind everyone she was a mother (sorry, "mama"), regardless of the topic at hand, and she had this obnoxious style of writing that was just… ugh. Here's a random example:

"'Cause I'm down, like a North Face puffer coat (eewwww) either way, sister. Mama needs to make some money, honey. And, also, like…live the dream and stuff like that. Your balls is what this old sea hag of beauty blogging needs to just get over myself and stop being so damn shit-scared that my writing sucks. Everyone's writing sucks until you write more, right?"

And this, about Kevyn Aucoin:

"He was the sweetest, kindest, most gentle soul on the planet with these muhungous, massive hands that created so much magic. I met him a few times at events and such and he always remembered every little peon, even a counter-s**t like me (at the time) and treated me with just as much love as he did the biggest star.
We sat next to one another at a Tori Amos show one night (he was with Sandra Bernhard, ohmigawd) in 1996 and I had on some insane electric blue eye shadow from lid to brow with glitter liner and hot pink lips. At the end of the show he hugged me (he hugged anyone he "knew" even if it was peripherally) and said, "Are you coming tomorrow?" Of course I said "Yes!" Like the slavish Tori-phile I was I had tickets for all three nights. He just smiled and said "Make sure you can see her face."
He totally put MY face on Tori's. Honestly, in my Top 10 lifetime moments…it's in the top 4, for sure."

Whatever you say… sister.

Oh, and she lives in Brooklyn, but spells it "Breukelen" dead

@Disagreement Banana, no, we are very unknown and uncool. i'd plug it but we're honestly still getting the hang of the podcast thing. And I'm second banana, the person whose job it is to make sure my friend doesn't just soapbox for an hour

Hi all.
Longtime reade/commenter on xojane, lately been lurking around these parts and I find myself enjoying GOMI more than xojane so thought I'd chuck my two cents in.
Lots of commenters annoy the shit outta me. But lately one has been really grinding my gears: Advice Animal. Always there to give (unsolicited and unwarranted) "advice" to the authors and commenters. Really acts like they are 'above it all' and so so good at adulting.
Oh and Happy Phantom comes across as a manic pixie dream girl who got knocked up and was forced to grow up. The positivity that seeps out is boring and I'm sick of hearing about her life.
Yes, I am a negative b***h but at least I leave funny/somewhat constructive comments..

Anyway, hi "ya'll"!! newheredancepopcornsfun_blahblah
