My favorite vain articles are when someone (usually Rachel) tries to come up with their own makeup look tutorial and it's super shitty and commenters are less than thrilled so the writer claims it's an editorial look and the haters just don't understand their vision

I was A BitchBerry, Not Yet A Twatgerine, until I finally embraced my patient suitor, the Victorian era, with open arms.

LOL RIGHT? As if they Lisa Eldridge creating extreme looks for a couture VOGUE magazine spread or some shit and the housewives in Gary IN just don't appreciate cutting edge style. GMAFB.

You guys, this blew my mind. Did you know that you should use moisturizer? Or that you should clean your brushes? Or that you're supposed to blend your makeup? (Ok, fine, most of Vain doesn't know that; I'll give that part a pass.)

Re: Maricar's groundbreaking snoredrool tips, her makeup doesn't look very good in the header image. She looks kind of grey. Maybe there's some flashback going on or the wrong shade of contour or something?

She's pretty for sure, but she's so uninspiring to me. I would rather have ~all green, haters eff off~ makeup looks from Rachel than more blahhhhhhhhhhhh from her and the girl who did the boring Twin Peaks look. Very much over Allison's manic faces and Morgan, who is the least inspirational writer on the site right now.

xoVain was never good but now the only thing worth reading are the LOTW's. It's so predictable:

- "I CHANGED MY HAIR, LOOK HOW HIP I AM" from Marci
- Vacuous product review WITH SASSY GIF from Sable
- Make your hair pink, make your hair pastel, make your hair mint from Allison
- 5 RomCom looks, 7 Blair Waldorf looks, 972392th Stupid Listicle from Rachel
- Drivel from Morgan and non-Unicorn Allison
- Zzzzz yet not horrible looks from Maricar
- Good post from Kelly
- OILS, OILS, DIY, BRASSY HAIR, OILS from Danielle
- I am a teenage boy Mick Jagger Richard Hell Bowie 70s French New Wave fever dream from Hannah

Kelly deserves better. In the beginning everyone was ragging on her skills but she has shown such improvement. I'm a Kelly fan.

She really has. And she seems very sweet, doesn't have snarky replies (although the tone has gotten waaaay nicer since the olden Vain days, I don't remember her ever having a Rachel/Hannah/or god forbid, Annie 'tude), and I appreciate that she features drugstore items. I hope she can find something better than Vain!

I also miss Sam, kinda. Mostly I just like her look, haha. But she seems to have peaced out for the most part…

Kelly does deserve better, and has received it. I've seen her byline on Refinery29, Glamour, couple other sites. I think she just writes for Vain for nostalgia and some extra cash.

What is happening here? I am honestly struggling to understand what's triggering:

cacophonousdin • an hour ago

The comment about "having David Tennant there to watch" really made my skin crawl. I know you probably didn't think about it, but to those of use who have experienced abuse or sexual assault, that is a really triggering remark to make about a known abuser/rapist (his character, not the actor). :(

I love Jessica Jones, but this made me sad. Probably just a case of bad wording, but still.

Even in the reply to Marci I was just like "huh?"

Am I monster that this sounds like nonsense?

I don't watch the show but I guess the commenter was skeeved out b/c his character is a rapist? It's a stretch….but I guess I see their point.

That's fair, and I'm trying to see it. Skeeved makes sense, triggered seemed over the top. It's not like David Tennant is a rapist – and it's not like Allison said "Getting to watch Kilgrave makes it better or whatever". It just seemed to call more attention to a pretty throwaway line in the article meant to pander to Dr. Who fans.

I don't know, I must be an over-invested dumb dumb.

It wouldn't be xo if there wasn't some level of exaggeration/such trigger! emoticon-animal-018
