You guys are so good at actually giving GOOD decor and home advice, I thought maybe we could have a thread where we post something we're having troubles with?

In my case, it's our front door. I would like to paint it, but I'm not sure what color at all. I am thinking a lighter shade of blue? Here's a pic of my house. The shutters look a bit darker than they are, but it's pretty close to real life. Ideally I would love to repaint the whole house, but that's not in the budget right now!

we have a very similar tannish/brownish exterior and every time I ask people for input on incorporating new colors they always give the infuriating reply that "It's a perfect neutral! everything will match!" but personally I feel that a nice rich purple/ vibrant eggplant is the best fit… if you are a red person, i like that look too.  I love orange always but when i add it to the tan it seems way too autumn themed for year round

Maybe a navy? Not as dark as navy, but a slightly lighter shade? I'll dig through my massive stash of paint chips after I drop the kid at school :)

I love this thread! I think the navy is a good suggestion.

The outside of my house has similar siding, but with more of a brick red door and shutters.  We have white chairs outside, but I would love to paint the rockers a color, but not red.  Just can't settle on something.  I want a "pop of color" kiss

Yeah, agree with above about the autumn themed.  Any blue / green / purple would be nice, and red could work if it were the right red.

I concur with the above posters who say navy or eggplant. I also think painting the shutters a charcoal color would look really nice with a navy door and your yellow siding.

You guys! I love this. Wanna help a ham out? So, this is my kitchen. Its the one room in the houe I just don't love, it doesn't feel like "me". We are in the process of painting it the blue. So the brown will be gone next week (That was the color from the previous owners) The trim isn't done. I hate that space between the cupboards over a sink-Any suggestions? (I originally thought shelves when we bought, but Im worried about to much going on if a different color than the cupboards?) I also hate having photos all over the fridge, and now that my son is at an age where he does "art" I was thinking/hoping of some sort of bulletion board/cute way to display things on the (now) brown wall?

I don't want to spend a lot of money, but I want the kitchen to feel like me. I spend a lot of time in here. I tend to like style like KB's (Oh the horror)- Greens, blues, whites etc…

I love DIY/decorating, but this room just bugs me. Its to small, to blah.

Thanks!

I think you have a great start with the blue paint.  Your wood floors are pretty and the dark countertops are very neutral… so your kitchen has good bones.

I know a lot of people think they are overdone, but I think you should paint your cabinets white.  Black, white and blue are a classic combination… so you probably won't get tired of it for a long time.  If you lean more towards country or cottage, you could use bead board wallpaper as a backsplash.  I used it in my kitchen and it's pretty inexpensive, easy to hang, and it's been very durable.  If you don't like that idea, you could do a stencil.  Or chalkboard paint.

Thanks Ditto! The floors were our project last summer, and I have debated painting the cabinets since we moved in. I am just terrified I will F it up somehow HAHAHA. (I would LOVE it since it would blend the oven/dishwasher in better too)

I was afraid to paint mine, too.  I put it off forever.  I'm not gonna lie… it's a major chore taking all the doors down, priming and painting… and having your kitchen a disaster area for days.  But I am so happy I did it.

I just figured the worst that could happen was a shitty paint job or the paint peeling… and the stain on them was already scratched and faded… so I didn't think it would be much worse.  LOL
