So now that YHL is scaling back and incorporating more “lifestyle” into their “DIY” (boring) who is poised to take over as the next big DIY blog?

Do you notice any bloggers working furiously to win over fans of YHL who are looking elsewhere now?

Will people forgive and migrate over to Katie Bower if she can keep up her momentum?

Will Oh Joy rise to new levels with her royal Target treatment and her new Land of Nod kids furniture/accessories line? (There is even an OH JOY TOUR BUS. eek )

Are there other rising stars I’m not aware of?

Or has the ship sailed on DIY blogs and no one has a chance to rise to the same level of success as YHL anymore?

Thoughts please!

This – and I don't think it's just DIY, I think it's all blogs.

ETA – I also don't see YHL losing any fan base. I think the scaling back will actually work in their favor.

eh, oh joy isn't a DIY blog, she's already a graphic designer with a lifestyle blog. other than her work, she basically posts about food and colorful clothes. doesn't seem like she is interested in chronicling a house flip/renovations.

I don't think any blog will ever attain the success that YHL did.  They started out at just the right time… before there were a million copy cats out there.  Now there are just so many of them.

Personally, I'm getting burnt out on all blogs.  I have to wonder if they aren't becoming passe.  Seems like Instagram is the new big thing in social media platforms.  People like a quick pic and a short blurb that they can read while they are on the go.

That would make me sad. I don’t feel like I can get to know someone without their words, not just their photos. Some of the most interesting stories I have read on blogs didn’t have a photo to go along with it.

And DIY through Instagram…how would they show a multi-step process?

Maybe I am just old and out of it. I’m not ready for blogs to die!! sangry

I feel the same way… I like Instagram as a supplement to blogs. They give fun insight into a blogger's life, but I still need the blog to provide real content.

I would love some new DIY blogs though… the only requirements I have are that they never use the phrase "pop of color" and that they're actually nice to their readers in the comments section.

I feel the same way! I find that the only people I follow on Instagram are either people I already know, or bloggers I already like. I haven't yet followed anyone on Instagram just because of their pictures. Really, pictures of everyone's kids or pets or whatever are just white noise unless I have a reason to be invested.

I completely agree, Ditto.  They were pre-Instagram, and pre-Pinterest.  I actually joined Pinterest, because Sherry told me to. It was all super exclusive, invite-only, get on the waiting list, etc.

Now that Pinterest is around, I do a quick search for whatever home improvement project I want to tackle, and I've instantly got hundreds of different takes on the project.  Before Pinterest, I followed YHL and KB almost exclusively, and bookmarked the projects that I liked and wanted to use on my own house someday.

I'm still not ready for blogs to die – I do see plenty of helpful and inspiring stuff from the blogosphere.  My problem, I think, is that I don't use Feedly or a reader to condense a bunch of different blogs. I check a few here and there, and if they don't have new content, I sort of slack for a bit on checking back in.  Meh.

What you don't want POPS OF COLOR?!!?!

Sorry, I had to jump in there with that one. Well because, you know.

I think we've all seen Manhattan Nest step it up. Also Yellow Brick Home. It does seem like it captures my attention when they either move or buy a new place – I must get distracted by the shiny new objects.

I never thought I'd say this. but I'm also more interested in Miss Mustard Seed lately. She just moved into a new office space. I despise the painted wood trend, but she seems to have a good eye for vintage items which interests me.

Edited to add another one that has been interesting lately – Addicted 2 Decorating and DIY Diva (I hope she finally finds some success).

Like her or not, I'm sure KB is going to rake it in now that YHL is over. People still see her as YHL's BFF and think maybe she'll talk about them once in a while. Plus she posts pretty regularly, doesn't she?
