I can see it both ways. Based on the description "a Chanel-style box jacket," the sample photos, & the line drawing, I would not anticipate an overlap at the front.

On the other hand, based on her measurements, I think she picked one size too big. With no adjustments, she's 1" smaller that the size 18 in the high bust, one cup size smaller in the bust, & 2" smaller in the waist. Hip measurement doesn't matter because the jacket doesn't go down that far. It's also possible that the back seam really is required for smooth shaping (maybe). The back of her jacket really doesn't look anything like the sample–it's curving down instead of up! But that could be a product of picking the wrong size, needing a bit of a swayback adjustment, or a botched full bicep adjustment. (It looks like she added an excess of space in the back of the arm, which is distorting everything in the back.)

It's also worth bearing in mind that Colette always drafts for wide shoulders. The reviewer acknowledges this, but didn't make any allowances for it in this garment. The combination of a wide-shouldered draft, a size too large, & an unbalanced bicep adjustment could explain all the issues. So both the draft & the sewer are to blame…the sewer a little bit more, maybe. But given that Seamwork/Colette are always claiming to be beginner-friendly & so quick & easy, & the feedback they've gotten about their shoulder draft has been consistently critical for YEARS, they are kind of setting beginning sewers up for failure, as usual. It seems like this particular sewer has enough experience to have known better, though.

That's what I was trying to say.
