How Sweet Eats

I used to really like Jessica, but now she's becoming just one big Pinterest blog. Every recipe is 3 different recipes combined (e.g. cookie dough stuffed peanut butter cups, red velvet s'mores brownies, thai chicken enchiladas) and it's becoming obnoxious. Her blog is now more "Let me see how weird and unique of a concoction I can come up with next" instead of "I'm going to create a delicious, sound recipe". The stuff may be good, but I'm over the pinterest style recipes.

YES. This is true for so many food bloggers now! It's ridiculous how there's a formula for getting popular recipes on pinterest–basically combine something with cream cheese, Oreos, cookie dough, caramel sauce, or storebought candy bars, mash it into a diabetes-inducing dessert, and take a cute picture. Presto, instant pinterest fame.

How about some real recipes of things people might actually want to eat?

I used to really like Jessica as well, but she's just gotten too ridiculous. I can't stand her Pioneer Woman (who ruined food blogging for all)/faux-OMGsodramatic style of writing. Her recipes, her 'Tuesday Things', her 'hatred' of vegetables it's all just trying way too hard.

I could be wrong about this, but I think an other post said she used to be a personal trainer/fitness instructor, got married to an older man, became a housewife, got bored and started blogging her ridiculous recipes. I definitely get the bored housewife vibe from her. She seems to only talk about bacon, butter and spending money.

Her writing style doesn't seem natural to me, it seems like she's trying a bit too hard to be like PW. I'd like it more if she gave more "how-to" steps and spent less time talking about personal stuff with the text of a recipe just stuck at the bottom of the post.

I wonder if she's just running out of stuff to write about. Is she still posting at least once every day? It seems like it wouldn't take long before wrapping cookies in more cookie dough is all she can come up with.

Irrelevant now, but gonna mention anyway Smile … her old site used to drive me insane with the centered text. I can't stand centered text in posts.

I'm so disappointed in her lately! I really used to be a fan of her, but you're right – everything is a little bit recycled or a combination of her old recipes. I think she has talent and that she can go somewhere but she really needs to find her own voice because we really don't need any more pioneer woman-esqe bloggers.

As a side-note, I'm a big fan of Ingrid Michaelson (the singer) and I thought it was really neat when she tweeted that she had just made one of Jessica's recipes, haha.

She could definitely stand to post a little less frequently.  I feel like she's just burning through ideas and is getting desperate.

I totally get the trying-too-hard vibe, too.  It's a bummer because she does come up with good stuff sometimes, but now it's just too much quantity over quality.

And one of her recipes TOTALLY flopped for me, and I emailed her about it (pretty sure it was the recipe and not my mistake, but I was very diplomatic about it) and she never wrote back.

Like some other bloggers, I really liked her in the beginning but lately it's all been a bit much. Also I heard she sucks at replying to people's emails – which I'm not too surprised about as most bloggers seem to be somewhat crappy at responding to readers.

Speaking of Jessica…is this normal??

"9. We went on a nice little date Saturday then got in a huge screaming fight over the new HBO show Girls. Oh yay marriage. Major plus: I got to sleep in a bed all to myself that night. There isn’t much better than that."

I'm sure she was just exaggerating, but reading about her husband always stresses me out for some reason….I think it's because she's always talking about how much he eats? Like, she wrote about how they went out for dinner once and he ordered 3 entrees and polished them all off and then ordered dessert and I'm just like GAH SO MUCH FOOD CANNOT COMPUTE.

And please don't forget that she is OMG.omg.OMG.SO.DRAMATIC. Read any of her posts and it's as if the world is ending because she didn't put cream cheese in some recipe or she changed her favorite nail polish color.

Wasn't she a personal trainer or something before she got married/became a full-time blogger? She reminds me a lot of Gina/Fitnessista. Does nothing but shop, eat out, paint her nails and take instagram pictures of nothing. Stop shopping for 5 minutes, get a hobby outside the blog and stop being so gd dramatic about nothing. Or at least focus on concocting recipes that are half way edible. They have been ridiculous lately.

A couple of years ago HSE was my favorite food blog, but I unsubscribed a few months ago. I got sick of her 32093 variations of "Oreos wrapped in cookie dough dipped in fudge, drizzled with peanut butter, and topped with sprinkles," recipes. I also got sick of reading about how much chicken and Diet Coke her husband consumes. Who the f**k cares? She was great for a while but has really run out of steam/interesting content.

And yes, she used to be a trainer, has competed in fitness competitions in the past, married an older dude (He's 40, I think) and is a bored housewife.

Is anyone kind of disgusted with how, in order to describe how "OMG GOOD" it is, she says she threw it away & later fished it out of the trashcan because it was, again, omgsogood?

I really like Jessica, and she has damn good photography, but that is one of the nastiest things I've ever heard.

Sorry to resurrect an old topic, but I'm a loser.  I've found some pretty good recipes on her blog, which is kind of the only reason why I keep her in my reader.  I feel like her writing is so contrived and unnatural…it's not coming across as funny or cute to me, it's coming across as pretty damn annoying to read.  I agree with faux-dramatic thing…it's just dumb.  She takes great pictures and, like I said, I do enjoy some of her recipes.  She should stop trying to write in a voice that's obviously bizarre and irritating.
