What does seem kind of shady that first she was so gung ho about leaving ATI life and immediately gave her kid to a lesbian couple (btw why wouldn't a lesbian couple just do IVF? Cost is about the same for an adoption) and then once she had the kid placed she immediately went back to living the ATI life. I don't know if there was some underlying post-partum depression or something but it seemed weird that she could go back to her family so easily and then she also got married quickly. Wouldn't the husband's family think she was "damaged goods" for having a guy's kid out of wedlock?

I think Ruth's sister went back to the land of myths where she resides.  And I think the official story is she married the guy who got her pregnant which would make it all right by Gothard?  Not really, but let's not ask too many questions, hmm?

Sometimes I think Ruth tries out a story like her sister's pregnancy (because she wants money/attention/material for her novel) but doesn't think of the end game.  So her sister has the baby and is living with her in the trailer, and then what?  Any future "plans" that Ruth tried to implement would be met with cries from her fans, "But what about your sister?"  It's easier to be $ympathetic to one broke girl having to live out of her car, but if there was two of them?  People would question why they couldn't they scrape together enough between them for an apartment.  Her sister would be an albatross that she'd have to drag from city to city with her because sister would be incapable of supporting herself.

I think Ruth tried a similar ruse when she was "nannying."  She told a few suggestive tales that seemed to be leading up to a story where the husband was making inappropriate advances to her, and then she backed off and quit the job when she injured her knee. I think she got afraid that her fans (a lot of conservative Christian moms) might brand her with the seductress label and snap their wallets shut, so decided it wasn't worth pursuing that story line.

I've followed Ruth/Mary's blog from the beginning with a healthy dose of skepticism. So much of her story seemed to just play into what her readers wanted to hear. I got so curious lately I did a bit of sleuthing and am now 100% convinced that much of her story is highly elaborated. Her TWoP posts are somewhat inconsistent with what she reported on her blog. She claimed to have lived in the Duggar's area of Arkansas from 1973 to 2008, but later claimed she was born in 1984. In a non-Duggar related thread she claimed to have gotten pregnant at a young age. Her story about the kinds of houses she lived in varies a lot too.

She has a (now inactive) FB account for her "Razing Ruth" persona that claims she attended CSU. No CSU schools to my knowledge offer library science as an undergraduate major.

There are tons of other things that set off warning bells others have already mentioned, like the excuse about no obituary for her dad, her sister's pregnancy and her subtle (and overt) requests for money. I am impressed she's so committed to this elaborate rouse, though, with all the posts by her "dad" and "ex-fiance" and the Razing Ruth Without Pity blog a couple years ago.

You have an interesting point. Do you think she “dropped” the fiancé , Harris, story line for the same reasons?

only a handful of schools offer a bachelors in library science. Almost every non clerical library job requires a Masters in library science.

The twop info is interesting, do you have quotes? that twop thread is close to 2,000 pages.

The things in her defense:

1. Regarding the dates of when her family lived in Arkansas, when she was born, I recall her either saying that there was a typo and/or the date referred to her family living there but before she was born.

2. She didn't actually say she had been pregnant on that other thread..she said she had already been a young mother, and she meant to her younger siblings.

3. As far as the trailer, she did own the trailer outright but not the property it was on. She got kicked off the property and had to sell the trailer.

4. "Rachel" did not get married to the baby's father..She married a divorcee whose wife had left him.

5. There was a fellow ATIAer  who posted on her blog and did figure out who she was.

TBH, I've always believed her (and yes sent a donation, but promised myself it would only be a one time thing, and that was that, and it has only been a one time thing and that has been that).

All, that being said, though, I've done extensive research on Bill Gothard speakers and employees and their family bios and I haven't found one that would truly match her story…I also found no memorial on the Gothard website (but that could be, like she said b/c of her blog). She did say she changes some details for privacy, so maybe the gender distribution in her family is different than represented online, I don't know. I actually only came to gomi b/c of googling/researching a lot on her.

In a 16 and Pregnant thread she says "I was a young mom, too (not quite that young, but young). The first thing I did when I found out I was prego' was go get a bunch of books." (Bolding mine.)

Original post here:  http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/topic/3186246-16-and-pregnant/page-5 She posted as "ofduggar."

Either she was lying then or she's lied on her blog or both. I never saw an actual comment from the ATIer who figured out her identity. I think it was an "email" Ruth/Mary posted on one of her Q&A posts. I also find it weird that she claims to have met some FJers and blog readers, but no one has come forward to verify a face-to-face meeting.

I linked the quote about her being pregnant and a young mom in the post above. You can also search her TWOP posts or do a google search for "ofduggar" and "twop". I get the feeling that what she posted there re: growing up QF/ATI is closer to the truth.

I've been reading Ruth's blog ever since I came across it on TWOP and have been a little skeptical for a few reasons.

1) For as long as she has been out on her own it doesn't seem like she has any friends to speak of. The way she writes it appears as if she is totally on her own. I know that leaving the only life you have ever known and staring over makes it very difficult to meet new people but I would think, if she has been out since 2005 like she has claimed, that she would have made at least one friend or some connections along the way (other than "Harris".)

2) Schooling-it's great that she wanted to get her college degree and in fact did so, but it always seemed a little ridiculous to me that she would spend her time and money on college when, in her financial situation, working full-time would have helped her life out so much more. A degree is a great thing to have, I have a few myself, but in her situation she really should have worked full-time and worried about school later. And to go to school for library sciences, idk, just seems like that's something a person with support in their life should go for, not someone out on their own should be shooting for. I could be wrong about that though as I really don't know what the job market is like for someone with that kind of degree.

3) Her writing style-This was the biggest red flag for me. I'm not saying she's the best writer I've ever come across but for someone who claims to have been homeschooled and sheltered from the outside world, her writing and vocabulary have always seemed to me like that of someone who has been exposed to the world way more than she has been. I don't quite know how to articulate the feeling I get from her writing but it always makes me feel like her story isn't true. I know there are plenty of homeschoolers who get great educations, but considering how she compares herself to the Duggars and has said that homeschooling isn't what it should be in the ATI/Gotthard world, it leaves to me believe that she didn't learn her vocabulary and writing style at home. I guess you can say it seems too-well writing for what was supposed to be a therapeutic blog for an ex-ATI girl living on her own.

I've never heard of or read this blog before, but I got sucked in the other night, as I also live in Chicago.

Ruth claims that she only gets paid once a month, which sounded odd to me. I did a quick Google search and found this: http://www.employmentlawhandbook.com/wage-payment-laws/state-wage-payment-laws/illinois/

It says, "An employer must pay employees all wages due at least twice per month. Wages of executive, administrative and professional employees, as defined in theFair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), may be paid once a month. Commission may be paid once a month."

I also found this link, which explains the FLSA aspect of it: http://hr.ucmerced.edu/compensation-and-classification/fair-labor-standards-act-flsa#salarybasistest

Maybe I'm talking out of my ass, but I don't think someone making $14/hr in Chicago qualifies as an exempt employee. Since she says $14/hr, it doesn't sound like she is salaried, so I don't think she can be an exempt employee, tbh.

I agree with another poster who said it is unlikely that a university would hire her from out of state without her living in the city or attending an interview in person. Just this past weekend I was at a barbecue where no less than 9 of the attendees were former University of Chicago students who were un/underemployed. Chicago has 10% unemployment, and is home to one of the best schools in the country (UofC) and several other good schools from which students graduate looking for jobs in the city. I really don't think it's possible that someone could a relatively low-paying, low-profile job without already living in the city and/or at least attending an interview in person.

I'm also curious as to how she got a "rental" from out of state. When I was moving to Chicago, I had to drag my happy ass here no less than three times to meet with building managers/landlords/apartment hunters/etc… I just recently posted my apartment on Craigslist to be rented and I had 40 emails within 20 minutes. And most were out of state people who were begging me to give them a chance since no one else would because…they were from out of state.

And I'm most curious about how this naive,  oppressed, deprived woman can have a car in Chicago. Parking is a b***h, so how'd she get so lucky to find an apartment with convenient parking, and why is she willing to spend the extra dough that parking with inevitably entail? (Parking when she drives into the city, parking tickets, meters, tolls, etc…).

Honestly, I think this Chicago move will harken the end of her blog. Too many people have experienced inner-city life, so that many more people will be calling bullshit on her claims.

AND…in the event that she's telling the truth, I would think it's great that she's gotten assistance up to this point, but if she can get a job in Chicago making $14/hr and move to the city without any trouble, than maybe it's time for her fans to stop the financial support.

The average FAMILY income in Chicago is $40,000/yr, so if she's making $30,000 alone (which is about what I and my fiance make, and most of my friends make around that as well), then she's fine. In her most recent post she complains about not qualifying for assistance, but honestly, she doesn't NEED assistance. Even with medical bills and student loans, plenty of people make it on their own in Chicago without familial support.

Personally, I think this is a scam and the person who's doing it has gotten too far over their head with the recent move to Chicago. Something like this can be pulled off in a bumf**k town where no one else lives, but this is Chicago…so many people either live here, or have lived here, or have visited, to recognize the holes in her story.

It looks like Free Jinger got word of this discussion. (I'm a member there, but inactive.)

I'll be interested to see how they respond to these findings since many of the members have been outspoken in support of Ruth and belief in her story.
