While the money thing is a little weird, I actually like Katie a lot. I've e-mailed her questions a couple of times, and she always responds and is super nice. I think money is weird for a lot of these bloggers– aka, I don't know how they make a living on it, but to each his own.

She's posted about having severe anxiety/depression, so I think part of why she stays home is because of that.

She has a great weight loss story, and she is very open and real about both her weight and personal struggles– something a lot of bloggers lack. Very humble and personable. SOMI for me.

Man, you guys… I never should have read this thread because now I'm going to start picking up on all the bad things you mentioned, lol. Katie is actually the reason I started reading blogs in the first place. I really like that she's so honest about her weight loss and weight maintenance. I never would have placed her in the "Running Bloggers" category because it seems pretty obvious that she only runs to be able to have more freedom in what she eats.

When I first started reading her, I was absolutely horrified by all the sugar that she eats, but I guess I've become sort of immune to it. There are still times when I'm like "holy shit, 90% of her diet comes from carbs", but whatever.

Besides the sugar-heavy diet, the only thing that ever really raised my snark-hackles was how often she sends her kids to her parents' house. It seems like those boys are spending every weekend with her parents.

Yeah, I didn't really think about any of these things, but now that they've been pointed out…

I like her overall though. I've only been reading her for a few months (found it by googling for a tutorial to make a running skirt), so I might not have picked up on things that would show as a pattern over a longer period of time. I find it a little odd that she is still a fulltime SAHM (as far as I can tell) when her kids are in elementary school. If it's about depression/anxiety – not working for a time due to that should be in order to learn how to work around your challenges so you can go back to work, not as a way of life! I like that she's crafty. The money thing, I don't think that just doing a challenge/goal to save money is the same as claiming to be broke, but maybe there's more than just things like the recent grocery challenge that those comments above are based on?

I also wouldn't say she's a running blog, I'd put her squarely in the weight loss/maintenance category. It's pretty clear I think that running is a means to weight maintenance, not a goal in and of itself, which I don't see anything wrong with. I think the blog title is more of a play on words type of thing, than her trying to define herself primary as a runner.

I didn't realize how much she annoys me until I read all of this too! Her weight loss/maintenance is impressive but I'm not sure she has sustainable healthy habits/attitudes about food.

OH god, I was just reading through the comments and realized this comment came up looking like it's my own and that couldn't be further from the truth!! I had replied to this and quoted it but I guess it didn't come out like that.

What I wanted to write was that I think she only comes across as 'humble' and 'personable' when you ask her questions that don't put on her defensive (she deletes those) of if you just agree with her on everything. She doesn't let anything through on the comment section that isn't 100% peaches and cream. I posted a question once asking if what she planned on doing when she just got so sick of running that she could no longer stand to dread it every day and yet still or run – or if she got an injury. I actually tried twice and neither time were they approved. I think she doesn't want to face that – EVER.  Another time I asked her if she thought it was a problem that she has a blog called 'Runs for Cookies' but she seems to just loathe running every. single. day. She didn't let the comment through the first time. When I reworded it and f**king tiptoed around everything she only responded with her usual vanilla, canned response of 'I have this love-hate relationship with running.' Lame. drool

I've been reading Runs for Cookies for about six months – found it through some running blogs I was clicking through.  I don't like to snark on small blogs, but I don't know how small her blog really is.  She has 6000+ likes on Facebook and has a lot of ads.

HERE'S MY KARMA DISCLAIMER:  Katie seems like a really nice lady.  I applaud her weight loss and running prowess.  Being a SAHM is a lot of work, even when your kids are in elementary school.  Her husband's blog entry today was really good, if you haven't read it, I recommend it – weight loss from a guy's perspective.   I really like the Motivation Monday where people with great stories get highlighted.

However, I've had many of the same questions about the blog as all of you.

1.  I admit, I don't understand the whole Points Plus / Weight Watchers thing, so I'm hesitant to comment on that.  However, it does seem strange (to me) that she uses her whole gained *whatever* points on one Mrs. Field's thing that she eats immediately.  I personally would want to stretch it out into two treats or something.

2.  She is always trying to get more activity points, yet only relies on running / walking / housework.  There are dozens of great workout DVDs out there for variety.  Some commenters suggested it to her a while back, but she is apparently not interested.  I think a running / fitness / weight loss blogger might want to try something new, even if she decides it's not for her. CROSS TRAIN so you don't always have to rely on running.  It would allow her to add some new content by reviewing them, at least.

3.  The social anxiety thing.  Everyone is different, yet it doesn't seem to honestly hold her back very much.  The fear of flying / dogs / getting stuck in a zipper?  Um, yeah – put on some big girl pants and carry pepper spray.

4.  My main irritation:  the minutiae of her day to day life.  I don't need to know the minute-by-minute playback of what she did.  If that were cut down, it would be a lot more readable.

I'm loving GOMI!

Anyone else find it a little bit hilarious that after this thread posted Katie is going to … reward herself with things other than sugary sweets, is over her fear of flying and stopped using her free ActiveLink? Lol!

I don't have kids but…does the way she rewards or treats the boys to food a good idea since both she & the husband have weight issues?

"Noah is at a sleepover tonight, so I wanted to do something special with just Eli." So they went out to eat.  She didn't post his meal but it's usually some huge plateful.

Katie is a SOMI, but I've wondered this as well

I really try to subscribe to the notion of not rewarding myself with food because I am not a dog.

No kidding.  I had my side-eyes and annoyances about her before, but they stand out more than ever now!

I couldn't agree more. Katie rewarding and treating her kids to large amounts of junk food sets a bad example. I hope her children don't end up with health issues down the road.

Anyone remember when Katie first put ads on her blog? She used Google Adsense and vowed to share the details on how much money she was making. Katie said something along the lines of wanting to share her ad income because nobody else really does. I clearly recall posts where Katie broke down her daily earnings. Those posts have since been removed. I found a couple interesting posts though. The day she found out her Adsense was yanked and a post where a reader basically asks how much Katie is making off her blog. She gives a pretty vague answer. I suppose it would be harder to whine about not having money if your readers know you're pulling in an okay second income.

Katie kinda seems like a sell out now. She used to say she had no interest in Facebook or Twitter and now I think she's on both. I used to really like Katie but something is off about her now. I think she tries to come across humble but I don't see it that way anymore.
