Questions Begin Swirling Over “The Pink Peonies Collection”

Rach Parcell, the big dollar blogger behind Pink Peonies, seems to be doing well with her “Pink Peonies Collection” jewelry. She has spent the past few months gramming pics of herself ‘designing’ jewelry and very much giving the impression that her pieces were original designs by her. But is that truly the case?

Some eagle eyes noticed that the “newest arrivals of my jewelry line” looked awfully familiar.

ppshade

Evidently Pink Peonies Collection is almost exactly the same as jewelry that can be found through several mass sellers, including AliExpress and Amazon. This is strange because in her announcement back in January she at least implied she was designing the entire collection herself.

Almost two years ago I had the incredible opportunity to start the process of designing my very own jewelry collection. It’s something that I’ve dreamed about doing since I was a little girl, so the fact that it is actually happening truly feels like an absolute dream come true!!

As her instagram and blog comments blew up with Stella & Dot reps calling out ‘designs’ (that are also sold through them) and fans wanting to know why she was pawning off wholesale jewelry as ‘her’ colloection, Rach finally issued a statement via her instagram comments.

the first collection was originally designed. However, it takes 8 months to year to design a full collection from concept to finished product. While our next full collection is in the design process and being produced, we added pieces that were immediates from market. I had no idea other jewelry companies sold the same pieces and I’m just as upset as you are about it. Trying to get it all sorted out. Thanks for your concern and support.

That’s all well and good, but why was this not mentioned up front? Instead we got pics of Rach posing at a desk full of pencils and saying she is “designing my very own jewelry collection”, and leaving her fangirls to infer that ALL the pieces she was pushing were her design for her collection. But hey, whatever, she has now posted a pic of her baby, so I guess she’s saying the matter is closed and can we all just coo over her offspring now?

I don't follow this girl, but HO-LEE-SHIT....this is some bullshit. One commenter mentioned hat the bracelet can be found on Amazon for like 20 bucks, versus the 55 she's charging? Jesus bald headed Christ!

And her fan girls are INSANE.. These two are my favorite:

fiveforleysPretty scary to see bullying by adult women. As if it isn't bad enough young kids bully, now grown women. If you don't like what you see/read then unfollow and move on with your day. No need to attack ladies.
thisiskaylesStella&Dot is forecast to make $1billion this year, I don't believe that @rachparcell selling similar or exact styles is going to break them. She's just had a beautiful baby girl who is more important than answering your continuous demands about why her collection is the same

DA FAQ?!?! Since when does pointing out the fact that someone is being fraudulent AND negligent to make an extra buck considered bullying?! And honestly, for as shitty as she is being, the people pointing out the issues seem mostly just curious and in now way shape or form are bullying her.

And f*** that, just because you popped a baby out of your Pink fortress that excuses fraud?!

    b****es be crazy.

Is that serious about Stella & Dot forecasting $1 billion this year? I can't see how that's possible. I worked for a very popular online retailer and at their peak they hit $150 million.

Any negativity is considered bullying by her lunatic fan girls. It does my head in when they start bombarding anyone who comments with anything other than "OMG Rach you are the best" with accusations of being ugly/jealous/b**** and are usually way harsher than what was first said and being bullies themselves! But apparently there are two sets of rules! I once saw a fan girl blast a commenter on PP's Instagram for pointing out her outfit was not seasonally appropriate . The fan girl then went on to the commenters insta page and wrote "You are so ugly" on all of her pics..... How is that not bullying???!!!! Those b****es be wwwaayyyy crazy.

        • MirrorballMoon

April was having trouble maintaining the popularity of the site and her own personal life/job. She decided to shut regretsy down so she could focus on her voice-over career (she was already established as a voice actor before Regretsy came along... if you've ever seen any of the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse stuff, she's Clarabel the Cow... she's also done voice work for the California Cows commercials). I always enjoyed her site and it opened my eyes to just how bad Etsy was at allowing Chinese Resellers to come in and sell their shit at rock bottom prices. I have an Etsy shop but put it on vacation over a year ago because I'd discovered the awful truth that what I was creating was starting to become a chore and my daughter was more important than making and selling stuff.

I loved Regretsy, esp the FB page, but shit was getting really nonsense around there. I started reading there around the time I discovered GOMI and always thought Winchell was a wimpier version of Alice...Idk, that's probably selling both of them short but those were my mortal little unbrilliant thoughts at the time.

            THIS! (0)NOPE! (0)

        • Piñata of Farts

April Winchell moved on to other things (it just wasn't fun for her anymore), but said she would keep the archives and forums up. The site then went down, never to be seen again. This was about the time April started work with Disney again, so I've always suspected that it had something to do with Disney associations, but I have no confirmation. While I was and am sad to see it gone, that was when I found GOMI, so.

Ahhh, thanks guys! You know, I think she was smart to shut it down when it was getting old, AND to focus on her career / so it wouldn't harm said career. What I don't understand is like what you all pointed out above--why didn't she just cop up front and sell it as fun costume jewelry from a supplier. That stuff is not worth the price she's jacked it up to and about a year and a half ago about a dozen of these types of sites were popping up all over the place (I used to work for one so I know lol). Guess that's not good enough for the PP image.

Side note because this just made me think of it: Anyone remember when bauble bar first started and their prices were astronomically high (like $200-$400 range for some of those adult-baby bibs).

  8. Verb Myself Back to Canada

In fairness, she does say she's designing a COLLECTION, not that she is designing JEWELRY. I design collections all the time. It's called Pinterest.

No, she's a lying liar who lies. Her words are carefully chosen...she says things like, "new addition to my collection" to avoid saying "I just bought more shit off AliExpress"...but she also very deliberately posts Instagram photos of her sketches, which definitely lead people to believe "her" jewelry is of her own design.

Why would she sink to Miss Indie levels on this one? Are they desperate for cash or something? She's got enough sway that if she REALLY wanted to design a collection, someone would probably let her...

    • BubbleyBath

I don't think she is that intelligent, cunning, or manipulative. Her word choice of "curating a collection" instead of "designing accessories" or whatnot is because the former sounds more blahg klassy. She's an idiot. She wasn't tricking us on a technicality, she was flat out lying and hoping she wouldn't get caught.

Because designing a collection is too much work. Work is hard. Marie Antoinette liked to pretend she was a dairymaid in a twee little farm on the grounds of Versailles, but when the cows had to be milked and the butter had to be churned and shit started getting real she was outta there and back to trying on shoes.
Think of old Pink Peonies as a modern-day Marie Antoinette, who fiddles around with her "jewelry designs" for a little while and then becomes le tired.

Yes! Most that "come to my party" jewelry is mass-produced...in the olden days, when they ordered stock from China via 4-month mail, nobody noticed, but now, when pretty much anyone can buy from wholesalers via the Internet, it's glaringly obvious when people are selling AliExpress junk at a 500% mark-up...

Yep, I'm a merchandiser for chloe and isabel and the jewelry is original and designed in NYC. However you can frequently find our jewelry on a bunch of sites and for cheaper. It's just the nature of Chinese manufacturing, they take the specs and use it to produce their own product using cheaper materials. I'd say for a lot of companies you're not missing much from the original to the knockoff. (But not chloe & isabel because I'm biased because of commission and they have a lifetime guarantee)
