Belle Gibson, the Australian woman who claimed healthy eating cured her brain cancer, might be heading to court for lying about healthy eating curing her cancer.

Consumer Affairs Victoria says they are taking civil action against Belle in Federal Court. They “will be seeking financial penalties” and “injunctions to ensure that that conduct is not undertaken again”, on the grounds that “claims made by her round when she suffered the illness, her therapies in respect of that illness and what she did with her own alternative remedies are false and misleading and deceptive”.

Meanwhile, Penguin – the folks who published her Whole Pantry book – have announced they will no longer publish “any claims or statements about a person’s medical condition without them being substantiated in writing by a medical practitioner”.

Belle Gibson, the woman who faked cancer, gave an interview a month ago in which she basically blamed her terrible childhood for her actions. In the interview Belle claimed she never knew her father, was forced to care for her autistic brother, “didn’t have any toys”, and was “forced to take care of herself from the age of five”.

When I started school, my mum went, ‘My daughter is grown up now’. All of a sudden I was walking to school on my own, making school lunches and cleaning the house every day…It was my responsibility to do grocery shopping, do the washing, arrange medical appointments and pick up my brother…

Well now Belle’s ‘estranged’ mother has responded – and she says Belle is full of it.

What a lot of rubbish…Her brother is not autistic and she’s barely done a minute’s housework in her life. I’ve practically worked myself into an early grave to give that girl everything she wanted in life.

Belle’s older brother also chimed in, saying he is “really upset”, but that Belle “has always been like this”.
