DIY Blogging WTF Jenny, the DIYer behind the “Little Green Notebook” blog, recently posted about her bathroom makeover. Unfortunately not everyone loved the painted black tile and blue painter’s tape plugging and said so in some very straightforward ways. Well Jenny’s had enough. Responding to the meanies by telling them “it’s not fun to get comments like the handful of negative ones above”, she went on to say: It’s just hard to see the point, other than to hurt me. So just in case you were wondering if I wanted any “constructive criticism” here – the answer is, probably not. Especially if the point of the comment is just to tell me how unbelievably bad you think the room is. She then instructed people to “keep comments to only positive thoughts” because “after a while it just starts to feel like bullying” when you negative brutes say you don’t like her rooms. I’d really like to see anyone in a real job go tell their customers and bosses that they only want to hear “positive” feedback, because negative feedback is bullying. Someone go try that and let me know how it works out. Young House Love, here, here, and here, have long been getting called out for their ridiculous use of Photoshop for absurd reasons. Now it seems a GOMIBLOG reader found a particularly wtf potential ‘shop – safety gear. Apparently back in August Sherdawwwwg and The Guy Who Also Does Stuff refinished their deck. (Yeah, I know, I’m already bored too.) Included in the post was a picture of Essbee painting a railing, looking fit and safety conscious: The problem is, they forgot to delete the original: WOMP WOMP. I’m not sure what the point of this would be, honestly. Why not just grab a mask and take a new pic if your’re that worried about what the YHLoonies will say? They obviously had the masks there for the supplies pic. And since she’s not wearing it in other pics I’m not sure why they even went through the effort for this one pic. I need answers, people! Why do they keep ‘shopping things for no sensible reason???
Emily Henderson, the official interior designer for professional bloggers, has decided that her formerly mostly design blog will now also heavily feature her baby. Saying her site content is “dictated by the traffic and the comments”, Emily gets right to the point of why she has basically turned half mommy blog: Lately I’ve been pushing it with the amount of Charlie posts – its like I knew I was kinda doing too many but unable to stop because they are just so easy and cheap to do…So yes, when i’m exhausted from work and Charlie, and staring at the blank draft posts on my computer at midnight its REALLY easy to just go for that. This blog was never intended to be a mommy blog and it’s still not, but my god its tempting to write about Charlie when my web traffic is telling me what is most popular. That’s right, folks – doing design posts is time intensive and expensive, but pimping out her kid is “easy and cheap”. Emily goes on to say she will not stop posting about her son because “there is an audience” for it, and without her audience blogging would “certainly would not be furthering my career”. Points for honesty, I guess. Young House Love, Target junk peddlers, announced today that their blog is just too big now to like, even deal with, dawgs: We’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately: what exactly are our goals? What are we working towards? Hoping to gain? The answer, we realized, was definitely not more blog hits or traffic or approval. Honestly we both feel unsettled by the idea of our blog growing any larger, and we look fondly back on the earlier days when we worked less, slept more, and spent more quality time with our family and friends. Apparently they will now be doing only 3-5 posts a week and no longer posting on “Young House Life”. They are totally fine with it if you “decide to tune out” now, because they didn’t even ASK for this success anyway: Teddy is our last baby and Clara is just a year away from kindergarten (how did that happen?!), so we want to enjoy this time with them instead of working our nights, weekends, and vacations away chasing some business goal we don’t even want. So begins the end of another blog’s life cycle. I guess it’s good they are at least being honest that they just don’t feel like dealing with it all anymore and will be pulling back rather than just letting it die a slow agonizing crappy post filled death like Dooce.com. But it’s a little disingenuous of them to act like they are making a brave and scary choice and will sacrifice financial gain for family crap. They have a grillion side projects that no doubt have made them very financially comfortable whether they post 9 times a day or once a week. But I guess the “lil ole us” act is part of their schtick so I’ll just eyeroll off to another blog now.
DIY Blogging Fashion Blogging Internets Mommy Blogging Young House Love had their baby boy Theodore last Wednesday. Of course with their posting lag time, that could mean he came out back in March. Jen Loves Kev are evidently going to start fostering kids with the intent of adopting some. Messica of What I Wore has started complaining about gaining 15 pounds in the past 5 months of pregnancy. I may be wrong, but isn’t that what’s supposed to happen? The site inspired by The Great XOJane exodus of 2014 is apparently launching today, calling itself The Flounce. Don’t feel obligated to check it out – it’s basically just XOJane, but less user friendly. The big secret project Young House Love is itching to reveal has been leaked to GOMIBLOG – and it’s just a bunch of cheap Target accessories. Featuring already played out things they have tried to make happen in the past (we get it, you have a chihuahua) the collaboration appears to mostly be decorative hooks and weird doorknobs. So for all you YHL “dawgs” who were making panty pudding waiting for their big announcement tomorrow, there you go. Hooray or something. Katie Bower, crack house buyer, can’t seem to get enough of taking weird, possibly inappropriate pictures. This afternoon she took her phone into the shower in order to capture a photo of herself with her baby. Hashtagging it “#nakedselfie”, Katie says it was “the quietest most perfect moment just made for prayers of gratitude”. Because I know when I’m having a quiet, perfect moment of gratitude in the nude the first thing I do is whip out instagram. Bloggers really can’t do anything without documenting it, can they?
