Fashion Blogging Bleubird Vintage, everything must be twee, has a track record of not really giving two craps about established medicine (as of January her toddler had “never been to the doctor“.) That may have to change soon since the addition of her new photo accessories. i wanted to give you all an update on our chicken keeping. we are still enjoying every minute of it. all five of our hens are alive and well and seem to be extremely healthy. They may appear healthy but the CDC still warns people not to let their babies rub chicks all over themselves: Live baby poultry can carry Salmonella and not appear sick, but can spread the germs to people. Children can be exposed toSalmonella by holding, cuddling, or kissing the birds and by touching things where the bird lives, such as cages or feed and water bowls. Young children are especially at risk for illness because their immune systems are still developing and because they are more likely than others to put their fingers or other items into their mouths. Salmonella can make people sick with diarrhea, vomiting, fever, and/or abdominal cramps. Sometimes, people can become so sick from a Salmonella infection that they have to go to the hospital. Infants, elderly persons, and those with weakened immune systems are more likely than others to develop severe illness. When severe infection occurs, Salmonella may spread from the intestines to the bloodstream and then to other body sites and can cause death unless the person is treated promptly with antibiotics. I know her life is all about creating twee photo ops for her twee blog, but maybe keep the bacteria carrying farm animals off the tables and out of the kids’ faces?
Jesus Christ. You may recall that Brit Morin recently got $1.25 million dollars in seed money for her “lifestyle” whatever, Brit.co. And what types of brilliant DIY’s inspire people to give you over a mil in funding? Duct tape on shirt collars. Last, but not least, our old friend duct tape. This one is super easy and is more of a temporary jazz-up to any button down you have. Snip off 2-3 inches of tape, center it over the point of your collar. Fold on each side, and you’re done! It’s kind of ridiculous how simple this one is. A great move for adding a little color to just about anything. This is truly inspiring to female entrepreneurs everywhere. To get funding all you need to do is resurrect dead trends, stick used yoga mats into wine bottles, cater to brides, and slap duct tape on clothes. Oh, and marry a well off guy with connections. Oh my god, I just can’t with the internets anymore.
Jessica Quirk, married, is sparking baby speculation once again. Her post from last Wednesday (how often does she blog anymore?) features Messica in a typical black maxi dress from Target. Unremarkable, except her readers are buzzing that the dress is a maternity dress. Apparently the dress is a Liz Lange maternity dress from Target. Why would Messica wear a maternity dress unless she is pregnant? Is this a thing now, wearing maternity clothes for no reason? I get that they are comfortable and all but considering how size tag conscious she has been in the past you would think she wouldn’t want anything that implies “egg burgers and beer gut” going on her body. Honestly I do wish she would just hurry up and pop out a kid already, and start ‘lifestyle’ blogging like her peers are doing. ‘Personal style’ blogs are a dying niche, Messica! Time to move into the next blogging trend! Oh well, I’m sure she will hop on this trend the way she hops on all the other trends. Meaning, a year behind everyone else. Delightfully Tacky, looking more “Alanis Morissette The So-Called Chaos Years” every day, posted back on the 11th about selecting some crazy summer lipstick shades. She highlighted several lipsticks from that Lime Crime company but then ended her post with a weird disclaimer: *I wasn’t planning on buying from LimeCrime (I’d much rather be able to try on shades before purchasing), but after reading some interesting reviews of LimeCrime, I definitely am sketched out and don’t feel comfortable endorsing their line. Do your own research to find out if you feel comfortable buying from them!* Cut to 8 days later and she’s tweeting about the awesome lipstick by a company she doesn’t “feel comfortable endorsing”: So what happened, did the company send her some free lipstick and suddenly all her misgivings were wiped away? I wish bloggers would at least provide some kind of explanation for their about-face maneuvers over companies and products. If you get other information to explain or contradict the things that made you uncomfortable with a company, then say so. Otherwise we all just have to assume that your opinion is for sale to whoever sends you free product – not a good way to build reader trust.
Fashion Blogging Jessica Quirk Jessica Quirk, tall, shared her perfect recreation of Jackie O Friday as part of her amazing and original Mad Men theme week. With her incredible hourglass figure and her long legs (just like her Father!) she combines a fantastically charming and kind personality as well as out of this world writing skills on her brilliant blog, What I Wore. No one can say anything bad about Mrs. Quirk, who loves the letter Q, drinking booze, and eating. With her hectic schedule running What I Wore full time it’s impressive how she manages to be both wife and style icon for millions and millions of readers while maintaining such poise and grace. She’s inspiring to brillions and we hope she stays on our internets! Tania, who runs the style blog “What Would A Nerd Wear”, has decided to close down her blog after two and a half years. In a post addressed to “friends, family, readers, lurkers, and others” she informs the world that she is leaving to “pursue other projects”: After much thought and some heartache, I’ve decided it’s time for me to hang up my hat here at What Would a Nerd Wear and give myself the time and space to pursue other projects… I no longer need this blog in the way I once did–I have many creative outlets in DC, I feel more confident in front of my closet, and I am finding myself increasingly craving extra time for my intellectual passions. I never read “What Would A Nerd Wear” but I’ve heard many people say it was a decent style site for young professional women. Since she is still putting up posts of previous outfits I’m not sure if she meant she’s closing the blog for new posts or if these are just a few “fave outfits” as a final goodbye. But it made me start thinking about the life cycle of a blog. At what point should a blogger just admit they aren’t that into it anymore and move on? I think many bloggers – especially those making money or getting opportunities through their blog – have a lot of trouble shutting it down. After many years it could just become part of your identity (like it seems to be for Messica for example) and despite not evolving or even enjoying it that much anymore they just continue to do it – because they don’t know what else to do. Since I have no opinion of this woman or her blog, I’ll just say I’m happy to see Tania’s honesty that her blog has run its course as a useful part of her life and admit that she wants to move on to other things that are more relevant to who she has become. I think a few other bloggers would benefit from some similar self-reflection. It was this side of 3 years ago that Jessica Quick, of the blog “Why Doesn’t Anyone Care About What I’m Wearing Anymore”, had her picture in Lucky Magazine and a style book on the presses. Now, Messica can barely muster enough fks to come up with her own DIY projects. Take today’s post for example. First of all, at least she FINALLY cut that sad limp hair back to something almost cute. Now if she would just stop parting it in the middle forever and add back the bangs, she might be getting somewhere. Second, neon was a ‘thing’ in Brooklyn LAST YEAR, Messica. I know she lives in Bloomtucky Squarestate now, but surely trends can’t be that backed up. Third, nice DIY necklace: But it reminds us of something…oh right, Jen Lula – that girl you regularly butt smooch on twitter – already did it: Look. If you’re going to throw in the towel and not even try to be creative any longer, fine. But at least mention that you got the idea from someone else. Hopefully she will credit Jen in her “DIY” post now that she’s getting called out, but who knows with Messica. After all, she invented stripes and colorblocking!
