Fashion Blogging Sally McGraw, personal stylist at Already Pretty, claims “As stylists and style experts go, I consider myself to be pretty open-minded.” In the spirit of open-minded style expert-ing, Sally has posted a lovely set of rules about what you can wear and when. In the midst of such helpful hints as don’t wear casual clothes to formal events, Sally took an opportunity to chastise those people suffering from depression for not making more of an effort: The argument that I see most often defending PJs as street clothing is that people who are ill or depressed or both often can’t do much more than head to Walgreens in their bedroom clothes, then head home. In all honesty, I believe that hauling on a pair of jeans, yoga pants, or clean sweats instead of kitty-printed pink PJ pants and bunny slippers is something that the majority of folks can manage. Commenters Katie and Carbon Girl agree that if you’re depressed you should just spruce yourself up and shake it off. Because when you suffer from clinical depression so crippling that it’s a monumental effort just to go to Walgreen’s for tampons, the least you can do is put on jeans and lipgloss so we don’t have to look at you. Sally’s remarks and the “yes! yes!” responses of her commenters make me wonder if these people know the difference between being bummed about being dumped by a man, and a real mental health condition. If depression were curable with the minimal effort of putting on clean yoga pants don’t you think the psychiatric community would have seized on that by now? Maybe I’m just being too nitpicky here about using the word “depression” to describe any feeling or mood that isn’t happiness, but in my opinion saying things that imply ‘oh I get that people with depression don’t bother getting out of pj’s but maybe they should’ minimizes the very real suffering and despair of people living with actual depression. Words: they mean things, people. Jessica Quirk, naturally thin, has pretty much become so irrelevant that even I don’t bother posting about her any longer. Other than her very sad, very transparent pageview begging via adding “Read More” links – which is frankly such a pathetic last ditch move that I can’t even muster comment – she hasn’t done anything very interesting lately. I thought you guys had pretty much moved on as well until emails came in tonight declaring Messica was sporting a baby bump (good lord how I hate that phrase). Here’s the pics that apparently made a bunch of you do the blog baby seal clap: As a rule I hate doing posts like this because it just seems to open a floodgate of body snarking. But that’s the thing – she doesn’t look fat, she looks like she’s smuggling a fetus. I guess she will be in NYC twice this month working on some super awesome thing (50 bucks that it’s OLDR, Kate SPADE, or another book) so maybe I’ll hear through the snarkvine if she reveals any Baby Neckbeard news.
Anthroholic has pretty much disappeared from the internet since the alleged scam she vaguely apologized for, where she took money for services she later failed to provide. Well now she’s back… U MAD?? This gem emerged from the comments of GFG post. Thanks to Tonight We Feast, New Year New You and Super Nintendo Chalmers for the screenshot.
Fashion Blogging Jessica Quirk Jessica Quirk, packing expert, is back from Barcelona. She spent today editing her photos, tossing Gala Darling’s twitter salad, and continuing to beg someone to help her with her tumblr. True to her claims that she likes to look like everyone else Messica wore this traditional Spanish interpretation of a “Little House On The Prairie” dress that allowed her to mesh seamlessly with the Spanish citizenry. And of course, stay tuned to her blog where
Orchid Grey, style blogger or something, has been giggling on twitter about her OMG TOP SECRET SECRET, and as predicted in the forums, she’s moving to Pittsburgh: After a brief hiatus due to a technical difficulty over the weekend I’m back! And with some big news! Remember that top secret news I had last week? Well this is it: Chris and I will be packing up and moving to the city of steel this Friday! I know, super sudden, right? But I assure you it’s for something amazing. I found out a couple of weeks ago, but needed some time to make housing arraignments and wrap my head around the whole thing. She doesn’t directly confirm GOMIBLOG suspicions that she was hired by Modcloth, and instead continues to do the BIG NEWS OMG tease: While I can’t tell you exactly what I’ll be doing yet (soon, I promise), I can say an amazing opportunity arose with a company that I adore, an opportunity that could not be turned down. So for those of you who care, there you go. If she’s going to work for Modcloth I hope she is put in charge of writing copy for their products. They need a lot of help in that department.
Fashion Blogging Jessica Quirk Jessica Continues to brag about how awesome she does vacation dressing. Supposedly this getup, consisting of free clothes and a sweater that still smelled of days old campfire, garnered her a “handful of compliments” while she walked around town minding her business. Not everyone had a compliment for Messy Jessi. Reader Erin had some thoughts about her tacky “native american” looking shoulder sack: Please reconsider the use and wearing of “Native American” patterns such as the one on your bag. Although I know they’ve been popping up on the runway quite a bit, the patterns are loaded with negative historical context in the US, and are part of a greater commercialization of Indigenous culture (see: Atlanta Braves, Jeep Grand Cherokee). Oh really? Well Messica wants you to stfu because she’s allowed ok? I have my own feelings on how American Indigenous cultures have been exploited, but that’s not something I want to go into great depth with in this blog. Did you know that I’m 1/16th Native American? Um, ok Jessica. What next, you’re also 1/1093842785787587238th descendant of Ghengis Khan and you will call something “Oriental Style” if you want to? You “have a black friend” so you will wear a tribal pattern from Modcloth if you want? You’re part Irish so you can get drunk and sing “Danny Boy” because it’s just your genetics? I wasn’t aware we are now allowed to do certain things based on our genetic makeup. That totally sounds like the liberal, hippie, equality Messica of two years ago.
Fashion Blogging Jessica Quirk I….I….I…WHAT THE **** This was the only dress I packed for our nine days of vacation. I wore it for a fancy dinner out in Jackson Hole as well as for our Friday night out in Boulder. I loved the personal style vibe in Colorado and especially in college towns like Ft. Collins and Boulder. Everyone looks fresh and healthy, you don’t see a lot of makeup or done up hairdos and there’s an ease and casual nature to everyone’s clothes. But there’s still style. It’s sort of earthy and athletic and sometimes I felt a little Nirvana early 90s-ish. Can you feel how I took that on in this get up? I…yeah, discuss this among yourselves, I just cannot. I cannot.

Not everyone with Native American heritage is going to feel the same way about how clothing, accessories and jewelry are made more main stream. I’m not trying to make a political statement by wearing it (or any of my other clothing that uses Native American motifs)… I just think they’re beautiful!
