Fashion Blogging We have talked some trash about Cupcakes and Cashmere. And many of you aren’t fans. But it’s the middle of the night, I used my food money for a bottle wine, and I just want to say that I like what she’s done here. Ok, the pose is a little “stop scrunching slouching pose wtf are you doing”. Her face is a little “omg who me?” But I like the dress and how she styled it. I know, I know. But once in a while in the middle of GOMIBLOG I like to remind the blogosphere that I don’t hate EVERYTHING. And when I like something I like to say so. So Cuppy this is ok. I’m not drooling or fawning here, but this ok, I don’t want to say “wtf did you wear that to Giant Eagle/Vons/Acme?” In other news GOMIBLOG would love to do a SOMI (Stay On My Internets) about a healthy living blogger and a mommy blogger you guys actually like! Go here and suggest blogs. And thanks for participating in GOMIBLOG, I love having you here – even if we’re a hate follow. A new site called “The Style Mentors” is gathering “personal style bloggers” together in order to make money by dressing people. Claiming they are “a group of popular and stylish lifestyle fashion blogger’s who have teamed up to offer a unique online stylist service and are equipped to style you and your whole family” they are even inviting other bloggers to join in their quest for cash. Featuring the fashion icons “Jen Loves Kev“, “Baby Blackbird“, and “Dear Baby“, the site is currently charging women $65 to recommend one outfit and $150 for a “wardrobe overhaul”. Your personal lookbook will be emailed to you within 5-10 business days (so please keep this time-line in mind). In the email you will receive a pdf file, with your styled outfits, dressing tips, and links to shops (see example). You can shop directly from these shops or use your lookbook as a shopping list when your out shopping. Already Pretty currently offers style consultations through her website. More popular bloggers have been known to make as much as four figures for styling services to major brand campaigns so it’s no surprise smaller bloggers want to get in on the action, albeit on a smaller scale. Bloggers want to make cold hard cash and with more advertisers no longer offering money – instead simply sending free merchandise in exchange for reviews and ad space – they are forced to create new revenue somehow. The question is, is there a market for such services? Most stores have professional shoppers and there are thousands of style blogs one can turn to for inspiration. Are these services based solely on the fact that you are paying a web personality to pick out your clothes? I don’t know about you, but I’d rather ask a friend or just go to Polyvore and do it myself – for free.
Casey, of the Casey Culture blog, has frequently been suggested as a GOMIBLOG subject. I check her blog from time to time hoping she will do something post-worthy. She never does. She’s just your average bland NYC blonde trying to seem worldly and interesting; sort of “Oh, OK *eyeroll*” worthy, but not particularly offensive. I checked in today to see this picture, evidently snapped at some wedding she attended. Now, I’m not saying she’s ugly at other times, just rather uninspiring. So may I just say whatever lighting, angle, and makeup she’s using in this image needs to be used every single time she poses for a photo. Because the girl looks good here. Ok, you may now begin saying “Alice you are drunk*” or something. * I’m not, for a change.
Fashion Blogging Jessica Quirk Jessica Quirk, yeah her again, recently returned from an exotic vacation in Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, who knows where else. First order of business: another sponsored post for JC Penney. I chose the Sample Gates on the West side of campus as my hometown landmark. And with my alma mater and a crisp fall morning in mind, I wanted to go with a vintage collage student look. Also, I have a new backpack. (I’m obsessed!!!) Her sponsor must be so proud. I’m not sure what a “vintage collage student” is, but it sounds pretty important and smart. Then she reminded us that she OMG LOVES Bloomtucky: This post is timely for me especially because it was this week last year that Adam and I packed up our Brooklyn apartment and drove 12+ hours to settle down in Indiana. I feel like it was yesterday! What a wonderful, wonderful year! Yes it’s certainly been the most outstanding year of her life. Progressively more blah outfits, the publication of her style expert book, moving into a white walled apartment, growing out her hair, and “frequently” visiting NYC. Her blog That’s Quirky is certainly taking off as well. Yes, it’s been a crazy, winning year for our Messica. What successes will the next year bring for Our Lady of Frump? Perhaps more sponsors?
Scott Schumann, the guy who does some blog with pictures of people in clothes, is not the most loved man around. Especially not after The Talks posted an interview in which ole Scotty rhapsed bortchy about teenage bloggers, and Tavi in particular: Well I don’t think her audience is that big. I think her success is a little bit of a conspiracy by established print media that wanted to show that this blog thing is not that important, that it’s done by a bunch of twelve year olds. But a lot of us are serious grown-ups. This week Scotty appears to be backpedaling. In an article posted on Business of Fashion he claims the interview is old and he totes likes Tavi now! “I’ve kind of changed my mind [about that],” he told BoF, looking back with some contrition and pointing out that the interview in question is more than 18 months old. “With everybody, our relationships have really evolved. As I got to know Bryanboy and Tavi more, I’ve come to respect their seriousness of it. It’s a struggle to try and build [something] and still maintain who you are.” Genuine change of heart or damage control? What does Scotty care? He’s making upwards of $100,000 per month with his blog and has a second book coming out, so he can say what he wants, losers! Love Live Lace, needs friends, really really needs some friends – if only so someone will ask her what she thinks she is doing cavorting about in the woods in getups like this. I don’t even post about her anymore because she just seems sort of sad and lonely. But I think this outfit requires discussion. What…IS this? Did she just jump into a Goodwill bin and walk off wearing whatever she came out with? Is it laundry day? Did a pack of brain damaged woodland birdies help her dress? She can’t be so bored out in the forest without tv that she’s got to create this kind of ocular assault. Someone please donate a satellite dish and some Sudoku books to this woman before she shows up in a Pucci skirt and antlers and a macaron bikini or lord knows what. And honey, you’re a young, healthy, attractive woman. You do not need so much blush. In a fashion blogging world full of thin rich teenagers and “care of” overload, Girl With Curves is a newcomer. Though she only started her site in February she’s already been to New York Fashion Week. She also manages to be helpful and polite to her commenters and readers. Tanesha was nice enough to answer some questions for GOMIBLOG about the site, her style, and what being a style blogger means to her. 1. Why did you start Girl With Curves? I needed a creative outlet outside of my full time job in the technology field, so my hubby suggested I start a blog. 2. Who are your style inspirations (other bloggers, models, celebs, designers, whoever)? My Grandmothers are my style icons. They’re both so lady-like, sophisticated and chic. I always begged to try on the sparkliest jewelry, until one day I did, and never wanted to take it off. 3. What are your favorite brand of shoes for comfort and your fave shoes for style? My love affair with heels is one that began at a very young age. My mom wouldn’t let me wear any type of heel to school, so I snuck my aunt’s wedge sandals for picture day once, which of course didn’t even show in the picture! For me, heels are more comfortable than flats, because I have flat feet, so the arche in a high heel actually helps- even though they make me 6’2″! I do like flats on some occasions though, and Sam Edelman has some amazing, embellished ballet flats I want to get my feet into ASAP. My fave brand of shoes is Nine West- they always have a super cute selection, they’re affordable, and they make shoes in sizes for tall girls like me, with big feet, haha! 4. What is your favorite piece of clothing in your closet? It doesn’t have to be stylish or fashion-y, it can even be a bra or pair of jeans or a sentimental tee. Right now, it’s a vintage, cropped, wool blazer I got at Goodwill for $4.99, and an antique, emerald stone ring I scored at a jewelry shop in NY. I’m also very fond of a comfy, beat-up pair of gray sweats I’ve had for 7 years that I sleep in all the time. (Note to hubby: I’m never throwing them away!) 5. A lot of women blog their “style” with hopes of fame or money or validation. What do you hope for your blog in the future, and what would you say to GOMIBLOG readers if they asked this question? When I first started my blog, I didn’t have a goal in mind, other than it being a hobby. As time went on and I started receiving emails from curvy girls who said my blog gave them inspiration to feel confident in their own skin, I though that if I could encourage even one more girl somewhere in the world, to feel good about herself and her curves, it would be a really fulfilling accomplishment. Ok, that’s all. You probably have no idea if you don’t read GOMIBLOG on the regular, but you were the number one only new tumblr FW blog we were rooting for. Personally I hate that you are not more famous because again embarrassing fangirl. So here is where you get a chance to make a statement to GOMIBLOG readers, anything you want to say about anything at all, even about your pets or style or whatever: As a society of women, we need to stop obsessing over size, letting it define us, and our self-worth. It makes me extremely sad when I get emails from teens who are struggling with eating disorders due to lack of role models in the media they can relate to. It’s time for change! There you have it! Be sure to visit Girl With Curves and let us know: can she stay on your internets?

Stay On My Internets: Girl With Curves
I had no idea what topic I’d blog about, until I found my pic on tumblr, re-blogged hundreds of times, with the majority of comments referring to me being curvy. I started the blog that very moment (almost 8 months ago), and decided to call it Girl With Curves.
