Lifestyle Blogging Prep Influencers The College Prepster, mature, has apparently found a charming tactic to deal with “negative” commenters – tracking them down and outing them on Facebook. On August 5, stating that she would “normally brush off these comments because they clearly project insecurities the commenter has about his/herself”, the obviously self-assured Carly decided to track down one commenter who “continues to get under my skin”. Apparently her lecture about being a positive role model on the internet – which apparently means not leaving negative comments on blogs – didn’t work, because yesterday she had to track down and shame yet another commenter. Lapping up commenter responses telling her she was “too cool” and “taking the high road”, Carly then attempted to justify outing her blog readers by saying her intent was to “call attention to the public nature of the internet”. It will be yet another nail in the coffin of blogging if this sort of thing catches on. As a rule, people don’t like being stalked down and having their identity put on blast just for leaving a comment on a website.
Fashion Blogging Prep Influencers Kiel James Patrick, makes preppy white people things, and his girlfriend of 9,057 years Sarah Vickers did the totally traditional romantic New Year’s Eve thing – they staged a proposal photo for instagram. Guy Who Resembles Fozzie Bear kneeled socklessly before Kate Middleton Hair and asked “Sarah Vickers will you be my Princess?” And just like in a Disney princess movie, Sarah replied via instagram with many exclamation points. Yippedoodle for them, I guess. Maybe she can get him a nice razor as an engagement gift?
K. Cooper Ray is doing it again. He is putting his signature twist on traditional neck-wear. First, it was his reversible bow ties with Brooks Brothers. And now? Now it is long ties with contrasting knots and blades under the Social Primer (a word play on the dual meaning of the word, yet takes the long pronunciation of the “i”) label. A commenter objected to the “signature twist” part, and had the following conversation with Castleberry: Harry left a comment on 4/9/2013 at 6:12 PM: Everyone knows that Tommy Hilfiger made (perhaps still makes) contrasting ties just like this for years, yes? How can this be his “signature twist” when it’s already been done/is being done by another, similar designer working in, essentialy [sic], the same space? F.E. Castleberry left a comment on 4/9/2013 at 6:18 PM: @Harry—While several companies, including Tommy Hilfiger, have played with contrastivg [sic] blades, I don’t believe any of them did a contrasting knot. Harry left a comment on 4/9/2013 at 8:37 PM: Fred – isn’t it the contrasting tail that creates the contrasting knot? F.E.C. stops replying after this, but the weird thing is that the tie designer’s own website says that the tie is “…so old it’s new. Inspired by his grandfather’s fraternity tie…” I’m not sure you can call something a “signature twist” if it’s just an updated version of something that has been around for decades. Also, since Castleberry is such a fan of history and passing things down from one generation to another, it seems like he would be playing up the “fraternity tie” angle, not ignoring it. Maybe I should just be happy he didn’t call them “go-to-hole ties.”
Fashion Blogging Prep Influencers F.E. Castleberry, name sounds like a mystic fiction writer, runs some site called Unabashedly Prep. As far as I can tell, his site is a series of pictures of men in khaki shorts and pink ties, and women wearing stripes. According to his “About” page – written in the third person – he “has unwittingly become a pundit of the preppy aesthetic”. I don’t know anything about the “preppy aesthetic” (since my aesthetic seems to be “dress like every day is laundry day”) but evidently he is famous. No, really, he is. So famous that people just recognize him on the street, as he took an opportunity to inform us in his last post: Noteworthy: this young gentleman and I met when he recognized me during the summer film festival at Bryant Park one Monday evening. I have no idea why it irritates me so much when bloggers talk about being so well known they can’t even go to a movie without people approaching them. We get it, in your little internet niche you’re a celebrity. No need to mention it just so we don’t forget. It seems so self-important/braggy/desperate. I know, nit picky pet peeve but it just grates me and I had to get it out.
