Internets Mommy Blogging A few of you may remember Kayla and Checkers, and their unique style of parenting. What you may not know is Kayla has a sister, Karlee – seen above with her “lover”, Bam. Following in the fine tradition of Kayla and Checkers, Karlee was recently pregnant for a second time. Evidently having never had a prenatal appointment, Karlee had quite a surprise waiting for her when she went into early labor. According to Kayla, who addressed a letter to her own child on the matter: On June 25th your aunt Karlee had surprise twin boys; Kyle Fly and Miles Trust. They were 6 weeks early so they were very tiny and under a lot of stress. They were both doing pretty good, but Kyle was barely hanging in there. He passed away last night at 4:09am. This tragic end to a tragically mishandled pregnancy is being dealt with by Karlee the only way she knows how: Resting up in this hotel with my lover Bam. Glad i got my pain med. Filled i was hurtin 2 badly. Pickin up kyles ash’s tomorrow cant wait 2 get them on necklesses 🙂 I’m not a doctor, but I am pretty sure that when you spend your pregnancy in the woods with weed instead of, I don’t know, seeing a doctor and eating properly you should maybe expect the worst possible outcome. In the 21st century in a first world country with a dozen different welfare programs for expectant women, I’m a little confused as to how it got to this point in the first place. Anyone with a 7th grade education knows you need to see a doctor while you’re pregnant. If you want to be free spirited whatevers living in the woods, fine – but at least see a doctor a few times. What is wrong with these people? Brit Morin, our fave DIY/lifestyle…something, just got a pot of startup money. According to TechCrunch: Brit Morin, the Martha Stewart of tech, is today announcing a $1.25 million seed round for her technology and content company Brit. You read right, hams. Brit, who rebranded her website because she’s “obsessed with Tiffany & Co.” is now a “founder” and “entrepreneur”. She’s also launching some app called “Weduary”, which apparently makes it even easier for brides turn their weddings into a social media bonanza. Because what the internet needs is more brides posting all over creation about their “day”. Yeah. BRB, calling in sick to work so I can create a website about cutting food into twee shapes.
Brit Morin, the 2012 GOMIBLOG Award winner in the DIY Bloggers category, has decided to take her “business” into full Unicorn Club mode. No longer wagon hitching on the “holeosomething” trend, she has now upgraded to the more important sounding “Brit & Co.” And what amazingly professional reasons does she give for the change? a) We are a growing team here, and though the company is indeed led by Brit herself, the “& Co.” is much more reflective of the growing pod of awesome contributors on staff. See a few photos of our contributing team above. (Psst, want to be a contributor? Submit a proposal.) Well sure, being “obsessed with Tiffany & Co” is an incredibly valid reason to rebrand into a company name that sounds like a Young Adult book series. In case you are worried that the site may no longer provide bored women everywhere with pointless pre-school level time killers, Brit wants you to know that they are “excited to continue bringing you guys all the same daily tips and shortcuts for creative, savvy living”. Whew, that’s a relief! I’d hate for the internet to miss out on all that “savvy” creativity. Voting has closed, and you have spoken. With 20,574 votes cast over 8 categories, I’d say you guys did pretty well with getting your votes in. Thanks to all of you who voted, and now, the winners: Fashion Blogger- Jessica Quirk, of WhatIWore.tumblr.com DIY Blogger – PoopoBrit.com Food Blogger – KERF, KathEats.com Healthy Living Blogger – KERF, KathEats.com Lifestyle Blogger – Gala Darling, GalaDarling.com Mommy Blogger – Jenna Cole, ThatWifeBlog.com Running Blogger – Caitlin, HealthyTippingPoint.com Lifetime Failchievement – KERF, KathEats.com I was really surprised that KERF won the Lifetime award – I really felt there were other worthier nominees. I was also happy that in the end, That Wife pulled past BERF in the Mommy Blogging category. I’ve decided next year nominees will be in ONE category only – it’s sadly monotonous that KERF won just about everything. Feel free to discuss below! I hope you all had as much fun as I did. And congrats to the winners – you earned it! After a year of public drama and employee flouncing at TechCrunch, PandoDaily was to be the awesome next generation of tech news site. Well it looks like it’s turning into TechCrunch 2.0 all right – Sarah Lacy dropped a nice front page bomb announcing her dear friend Mike was being kicked out of the treehouse: As of Monday, April 9 the shareholders of PandoMedia voted to remove Michael Arrington as a director. Given the change in relationship we feel it’s inappropriate for CrunchFund’s partners Michael Arrington and MG Siegler to continue contributing to PandoDaily. We thank MG for his many stellar contributions to date and Michael for his support in the early days of the company. We have nothing more to say about the move and offer nothing but good wishes to CrunchFund in the future. Since comments were disabled on the post and Sarah empirically declared there was “nothing more to say”, people just assumed this was Sarah continuing to cash in on airing the dirty laundry of whatever company she was working for. That is, until Take A Hike Mike chimed in with his public response and made it clear that this was actually just Sarah continuing to cash in on airing her personal butthurt: This wasn’t a complete surprise to me, the company notified me last week that they weren’t happy that I and MG Siegler (my partner at CrunchFund) were going to speak at TechCrunch Disrupt this coming May…Part of the reason that I’m speaking at Disrupt is that I have a contractual commitment to do so… He says it wasn’t a complete surprise, but then later says “I’m thoroughly confused about how and why this happened” before proceeding to post a snippet of some email he sent her, then stating that “If Sarah feels that they’re better off without our involvement, I support her completely. Our friendship goes back years and years. It can, I hope, withstand this hiccup.” So basically…Sarah Lacy continues to prove that women entrepreneurs don’t base their business decisions on their emotions, and Michael Arrington continues to try and have it both ways with his association with TechCrunch. I’m trying really hard to give a dang here because there is probably some hilarious drama behind all this, but since there isn’t one redeeming quality in the people involved I think I’ll go get some lunch and hope they do something more interesting than post he said/she said crap back and forth. Gala Darling, loves herself, is giving up television for the month of April: I dislike television. I have always disliked it. It makes me feel nuts…That’s why I have decided not to watch any television or movies for the duration of the month of April. To make sure you know she lives an intellectually superior life, she describes her usual activities: When I was a single gal, I never owned a television…I was always writing, working on something, reading something, or hanging out with my friends. It was brilliant! Since she is so invested in improving everyone’s life, Gala wants you to all stop watching television and be productive. And if you don’t watch television, “maybe you could stop doing something else that you think is negatively affecting your productivity. Perhaps you could go with Facebook, Twitter, or — gasp! — your internet connection? What do you think?” Evidently KERF agrees, saying she can’t wait to be done watching the boob tube and get back to her usual routine: As much as I LOOOOVE LOST, I will be relieved when we are finished with the series. I’m a wee bit tired of watching TV every night! Want to read books, work on projects and more! But still totally <3 the show. Look I love reading and leaving my house as much as the next person but I’m a little tired of people who act like television is some moronic waste of time – unless of course you only watch (insert their preferred show/channel here). It is entirely possible to enjoy television and also be productive. Not watching television does not make you somehow better or more interesting than someone who spent their Sunday hangover on the couch with a Law & Order: SVU marathon. Can we all please stop being tv snobs already? And giving up your internet connection? I’d love to see Gala do that instead of giving up television. In case you missed it, “The College Conservative” launched 4 months ago. Claiming ‘Our staff is subjected to academic discrimination, blasted by anti-American sentiment, and ridiculed for being “young and naive”‘, the site aims to end discrimination against white middle class college students by assuring them that people just don’t “get” conservatives. Not because they are mostly bigoted privileged jerks – no no, people don’t “get” conservatives because “It’s not that the message is flawed; it just needs the proper packaging.” They just need a snazzy website is all! Like an army of undergrad G. Gordon Liddys, the staff claims they “love America, we speak the truth, and we make no apologies for it.” Of course by “America” they mean a land where politicians are good Christian folks and people don’t date until they are out of high school unless they want to wind up pregnant and divorced. An America where women who are refused birth control coverage by their employers just roll over and take it, while shaming women with more feminist views. An America where guys who look like Rush Limbaugh defend Rush Limbaugh’s choice to call a woman a “slut” for daring to have sex outside of marriage. An America where the only green you should care about is the kind generated by businesses because caring too much about the environment makes you a tree hugger. Hey, more power to them. I honestly thought the site was some offshoot of “The Onion” – I had no idea there was an entire generation of college aged kids who were so eager to go back to 1952 America. Anyway, for all you right wingers that read GOMIBLOG you now have another site to add to your reading list. Let me know what other gems you find, because I couldn’t make it past page 3.

HelloBrit.com Is Now A For Real & Co.

b) As much as we love Poopo Kitty, it was awkward to have a similar brand name as a fictional Japanese animal.
c) We have always been obsessed with Tiffany & Co. (Fact: Brit’s mom almost named her Tiffany before she was born. It’s true! You can ask her.)
d) Our domain name is now much shorter, making it easier to include links in tweets. Stay tuned for the Brit.co URL shortener! 😉
e) PoopoBrit? Poopo Brit? Poopo, Brit!? PoopoBrit.com? We know… it was weird.

Sarah Lacy Continues The Fine Journalistic Traditions Of TechCrunch
Sarah Lacy, world’s greatest woman entrepreneur, has spent the past few months whining about how TechCrunch has sucked since Michael Arrington left. She and ole Mike made a great team, with their matching set of his and hers views from the lofty heights of the 1% and their mutual need to be Tech Authorities. Arrington even invested in her sad attempt to continue being relevant, PandoDaily.
