Internets Readers of the blog “Clients From Poop” are scratching their heads at a post that went up today: I got regular complaints from a client that the DVDs I gave him were corrupted. After several irate phone calls, I went down in person to check out the situation. His machine was in working order, his disc drive was functional, and after testing all of the DVDs he claimed were corrupted, I saw he was correct. After berating me for my idiocy, the client went into a full-on rant about how my stupidity has cost him both time and money. I apologized profusely and offered him a DVD that I triple-checked was working. He then slapped it on the nearby filing cabinet and kept it in place with a large magnet. Readers and commenters seem to be unable to decide whether the story submitted was fake and the CFH team simply didn’t read it, or whether someone submitted the old joke about floppy disks being stored in a drawer full of magnets and the CFH editors themselves updated it without making sure it still made sense. Either way the submitted scenario is the second oldest customer service joke since digital media was invented and could not possibly have happened as described in the posted tale. Pay more gooder attentions to editation, CFH! Brit Morin, brilliant idea haver, has another brilliant idea. She’s now recommending Brit readers use TaskRabbit, in which her husband has been an investor, to hire vassals for all those menial tasks you have piling up. Gushing that “you can bet that the service will continue to expand across America and maybe even globally over the coming years”, Brit claims TaskRabbit is one of her “favorite outsourcing services”. I’m sure that’s a totally unbiased opinion. Supposedly the reason for the spousal startup pimping is to encourage people to hire someone to stand in line for the new iPhone. That’s right, you can pay your own personal Veruca Salt $55 to stand in line for 4 hours so you can have the iPhone before anyone else. One dedicated TaskRabbit will wait up to 4 hours in line for you. Once he or she gets close to the front, you’ll come swap out places so that you can complete your purchase and get your phone set up. The total out of pocket cost is $55 — that’s $13.50/hour. It sounds like a lot, but if you get paid more than that per hour, it seems more valuable to pay someone to wait for you. First of all, people do this? It’s THAT important to throw $900 at the VERY LATEST phone the DAY it comes out? Second, is it just me or does it seem a bit nepotistic to pimp a company in which your husband – who has such a fantastic track record – has invested without so much as a disclosure?
Brit Morin is using her millions to share her brilliantly creative ideas with the world on her “content platform”, Brit & Co. One of the recent great ideas? Store personal identification documents on your phone: Driver’s License: This is an obvious one. Always keep a shot of your license so you can prove yourself! But really, this is super handy for filling out forms and if you forget your ID at a bar. Passport: Always good to have a backup of this, and also helpful for having your passport number and expiration date on hand when booking future travel. Though she includes the caveat that “a lot of this information is incredibly sensitive to your identity, it’s absolutely crucial to activate the passcode feature on your phone” I’d still like to know why keeping this sort of information on your phone is a good idea. People lose phones all the time, and password or no there are ways to see this info. This is much more ignorant than yoga mat wine corks and “blackout pies“. At least those those ideas don’t include the possibility of identity theft. Gala Darling, mood expert and amazing blogger, has announced that she will be contributing her special blend of pink and obnoxious to xojane.com. As the “Beauty & Style Editor” Gala will be focusing on the most important issues facing women today: I’ll be contributing a few times a week, writing about everything from how to get perfect sex hair to eyeliner that won’t run when you cry. In her introduction post on xojane.com, Gala states that she is “so excited to join the team & fluff around in xoJane’s hot pink offices”. The woman who wears more make-up, fake hair, and false eyelashes than anyone to ever grace the stage at Lucky Cheng’s claims to be “huge on “real girl beauty”” and will share her “favorite tricks”. Oh well. It’s not like xojane could get any worse, and at least it will be interesting to see the response in a place where Gala can’t turn off comments.
Internets Julia Allison Lifestyle Blogging Julia Allison, apparently has a show on Bravo!, posted an unpublished interview to her facebook page admitting that “the era of NonSociety has come to an end”. Claiming it “brought in almost half a million throughout the duration of the site” (which begs the question of why she would shut it down, but ok) she says “my partners and I are finally ready to say goodbye to it”. Though finally allowing the horizontal crapshow to die the merciful death it has long deserved, Julia refuses to let herself fade into oblivion. In her continuing effort to be famous and relevant, she is going to take her pony show back over to her original site: I just did the initial redesign of JuliaAllison.com and plan to expand upon it later this year. I’m thinking it will PROBABLY be back to basics blogging, but we’ll see. I am in the midst of writing a book proposal now, so I will also be focusing on that for a while! Considering everyone and their dog has a book deal these days there’s little doubt she will be handed a pot of money for her mediocre babblings. At least she says she isn’t moving back to New York City, so there’s that to be thankful for. Many of you have no doubt heard about the tragic assault on Jenn Gibbons, the woman attempting to raise $150,000 for breast cancer charity by rowing 1,500 miles around Lake Michigan solo. According to the Daily Mail: Police believe her attacker may have carefully tracked her movement through her blog, waiting until she was vulnerable to strike. In the early morning hours of July 22, Miss Gibbons was staying along Lake Michigan in Mueller Township, Schoolcraft County. She said that a man broke into the cabin of her boat and raped her – identifying her by her full name. ‘It was terrifying. He told me he knew where to find me,’ she said. Pinterest, the online replacement for bookmarking stuff you want, is extremely popular with bloggers. And why not? It’s yet another way to use their beloved affiliate links! Readers are starting to notice that the Pinterest boards of some bloggers are filling up with “shopstyle” and “rstyle” product affiliate links. Atlantic-Pacific’s “wishful thinking” board seems to be the worst offender – it’s basically nothing but things Blair wants, with links via various affiliates so you can help her earn money to buy more crap. But other bloggers like What I Wore, Ramshackle Glam, A Beautiful Mess, and A Cup of Jo are starting to pin affiliate link items as well. I know everyone is all for bloggers getting paid, but seriously? They already do sponsored posts, sponsored tweets, run ads. Are bloggers simply unable to do anything online without monetizing it these days?
