Internets Jordan Reid, tv host who also blogs, is celebrating her internet expertise! (Happy) First Anniversary One year ago today, I wrote my very first post. I had just quit my job in order to embark on a pretty insane – and, I’m sure some thought, extremely ill-advised – adventure, and had absolutely no idea where I was headed, although I hoped it would be better than where I’d been. Over the next few months, I left one venture to strike out on my own, learned some important lessons, (sort of) learned how to shoot and edit my ownvideos, said good-bye to a tiara (and realized that it’s just a piece of plastic), made countless mistakes, hung out on MSNBC and VH1, freelanced up the wazoo, made the Times (as “Jordaon”), spoke in public and did not faint, clarified some stuff (and some more stuff), stirred up a bit of a hornet’s nest, found joy in odd places, welcomed a surprise addition to the family, made somedelicious things (and some not-so-delicious things), used a mixing spoon as a microphone, had some dramatic traveling experiences (and some equallydramatic dishwashing experiences), discovered that I really, really prefer eating to not, spent lots and lots of time in airports, learned that doing what you lovedoesn’t have to just be a hobby, stopped feeling like I was “behind the curve” and started understanding that you can create exciting shapes that are all your own, lost my way and found it again, and learned that the first step to doing anything is to do it. I’ve traveled all over the place, but I’ve found that now, more than ever, what I love the most is coming back home. I definitely haven’t figured it all out, but man, am I ever happier than I was 12 months ago. And that’s mostly because of you. So thank you. That’s right folks: Jordan Reid, woman in tech, created her tumblr one year ago. This absolutely qualifies her to speak with expert authority on such things as the internet and blogging. It totally makes her stories of following your rainbow to be a professional blogger worth taking very seriously. A YEAR. ONE GEEDEE YEAR. Yeah, those of us who have had various types of blogs since 1998, before the word blog existed, sit in awe of your splendor, Jordan. Please, continue to elucidate us on how to be internet famous. Jordan Reid, total nobody with a tumblr who aspires to be a popular lifestyle personality, rarely says no to a tv appearance, writing gig, or interview. Anything to get your name in The Google right!? Well Jordan did an interview with some rando blogger last week. Since there’s nothing else going on today (unless you guys want her perrrrrrrrrrfect recipe for potato salad) here it is:
Robert Scoble, alleged conference drunk, understands the importance of letting your kids learn to survive on their own while you chase skirts at tech shows. @zbussey my kids will survive power outages just fine. They know how to start our generator. 🙂 Scobie’s life prep for his kids sounds like the beginning of Blast From The Past, prompting twitter to ask him wtf he is really teaching his spawn: @Scobleizer Hahaha, what happens when the gas runs out? I don’t mean to question parenting style, but do your kids have offline skills? RUDE! Of course the crotch products of Robert Fucking Scoble have skills! A parent like Scoble teaches his kids valuable lessons like “hoard guns”: @zbussey actually one son collects guns, so yes. 🙂 Robert Scoble, exemplary parent, folks. Actually since he has admitted in the past that he basically ignores his kids and lets their moms raise them, I guess we should question what kind of women he is breeding with. Teaching your teenaged son about generators and gun collecting? Give us some context here dude, because right now your family sounds like it’s bunkering down Mount Carmel style. Jessica Schroeder, self-important blogger and hater of the obese poor, is tired of people with their thoughts and stuff sharing their thoughts about her on the internets:
Awww Santa got my letter! Think of it, kids – blissful silence from the blogger who brings you pictures of food and campaigns to get her on tv. Don’t worry, it won’t last. She has a habit of pissing and bortching about negative comments. The minute she finishes her Jessica Schoeder Paper Doll Set book she’ll be back online promoting the living Crap out of it, and accusing everyone of being jealous haters. Meet Annie Werner. She used to do something at Blackbook. Then she interned for the Village Voice, blogging with Foster Kamer or…something. She is a junior at NYU “sort of kind of” not “majoring in blogging“. Now she is tumblr’s second paid female. Yet again an intern. I guess she likes being a blog intern or something. Or likes saying “I worked at Blackbook and VV and TUMBLRRRRR!!!” even if it is just as an intern. Anyway. She’s kind of hot and knows all the right people, so sorry folks who had actual skillsets, Intern Annie wins the “coveted” position of “person who will likely drive Poundcake to deep depression everytime she sees a mirror.” If you care enough to read the deep thoughts of tumblr’s latest waste of salary, feel free to check out her twitter. Welcome to GOMIBLOG, Annie. My oceanfront office. Ok, not really. It’s too hot and sticky outside to be productive. I’m actually sitting on the couch reading emails right now. But, it looks like a great idea, doesn’t it? In a perfect world, I wouldn’t need to work today, but I’m not opposed to it. Happy Monday! At the risk of sounding like I’m picking on MMBH lately (since I’ve been accused of being too mean here on GOMIBLOG), she HAS been pretty snarkworthy. Between claiming that White Mexico is healthier than America and now bemoaning the fact that she has to Meaghan O’Connell, talented author slash bidness lady and representative of women in tech – AND only woman working at New York based tumblr – took to her tumblr to agree with some mentally blocked douchebag: New York will always be a tech backwater, I don’t care what Chris Dixon or Ron Conway or Paul Graham say This brilliant post was in response to this statement made by some idiot who has obviously spent 15 minutes in New York: One of the biggest shocks upon moving to New York was realizing it had no cafés. You can’t have startups or revolutionary political movements without cozy cafés to dawdle, work, and plot in. Ok. Let’s respond the way Poundcake should have. First, that’s why you have a home office, dickweed. Coffee shops are disabling free wi-fi because of entitled dicks like you who think cafes are code for ‘free office space’. Coffee shops are supposed to be a place for you to get away from your office for an hour or two and maybe do some quiet work if you must. They are not supposed to be full of “founders” moving in for 5 hours a day conducting their meetings and brainstorming sessions. That is why they invented conference rooms and offices, assholes. Second, there ARE coffee shops and cafes. Like…everywhere. Between Manhattan and BK I can’t go three blocks without seeing some tiny little coffee shop with an ironic name. Now, Poundcake? When you work at a supposed tech company in New York it’s probably not in your best interest to go ‘lol’ over quotes about New York some kind of tech industry wash – it makes it look like YOU are the one saying it. Which not only makes you look stupid and uninformed (a real departure for you I know) but you look like you are slamming your paycheck provider. Just shut up, Poundcake. Edit: yes I know she is quoting some other person here, but all she does is post it and slap LOL on it. If she is going to post Crap like this to make a point then she needs to actually add some lucid thoughts and maybe say why she agrees/disagrees. LOL does not cover this, and it makes it look like SHE is the one saying this. Not everyone is going to click through to get the context.

Lovepuppy Is Tired Of Your Opinions
Ugh, Internet
Every 4-6 months I really need a break from the Internet. It’s not just that everyone with a modem has an opinion, it’s like EVERYONE IS SCREAMING WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT YOU AND EVERYTHING ELSE! AHHHHHGGGGRRRAHHHHHHHSCREAM!
I have a week until I need to turn in my manuscript and I don’t know if I’ve ever felt more pressure in my life. The voices outside are so much louder than my inner voice, so I need to just turn it off for a while.
