Internets Jordan Reid, recipe expert, home expert, mason jar expert, non-expert, wants us all to know that she enjoys the carcasses of murdered innocent living things responsibly: I’m still a meat-eater, obviously, and my love of meat (or belief that meat-eating, if done responsibly, is healthy, natural, and basically A-OK) isn’t going anywhere. While I respect the rights of others not to eat meat, I don’t see vegetarianism (much less veganism) anywhere in my future (although I suppose you never know). But I want to be clear on this point: I no longer purchase meat from industrial farms, and have learned enough about the subject that I now feel that seeking out cruelty-free producers is 100% worth the extra time and expense. I don’t think that makes me a saint…I think that makes me a responsible meat-eater. I continue, however, to refuse to judge those who choose to eat industrially farmed meat: I judge the people who run these miserable operations, knowing full-well what they’re doing. So that’s where I stand, but there are sites that can speak to these issues with much more authority than I, so it’s link time. Go HERE to learn more about the dangers of factory farming, and HERE to read a great article about “ethical omnivores” (meat-eaters who will only eat meat and dairy products raised in a cruelty-free environment). Ok first of all, why does Jordan think we are so obsessed with what she ingests? She is constantly defending her food choices. Does anyone really care that she’s eating chicken? Everyone I know is aware of the cruel conditions animals are usually held in. The basic fact is, if you are eating meat then you don’t care about killing animals to eat. It makes no difference whether they lived in a spring fresh meadow with gentle breezes and sunshine and grew up with their mom, or were held in a cage with their beak ripped off – you are giving money to people who chop the heads off, drain the blood, and slice up the bodies of animals. And I say that as someone who eats steak. Don’t even think about waiting around for me to moralize that decision. Eat the meat or don’t, but don’t try to salve your guilt with platitudes about the ethical way to eat a dead animal. Just stop preaching about crap, period, Jordan.
Mary Rambin, blogger for the Houston Chronicle, has been assigned to blog about her attempts to preserve her youthful looks, which are so cruelly assaulted despite staying out of the sun and maintaining a healthy body weight: The Houston Chronicle has asked me to share my experience and thoughts about being young and making the commitment to use Botox and fillers as anti-aging measures. Most have you have been watching my bi-anual injections for 2 years now and have voiced very strong opinions on the topic. As I listened, your perspectives resonated in my thoughts because you all made reasonable and/or emotionally charged statements. Although your comments have not re-directed my regimen, they are still valid. So I would like you to participate in this article as well because you have been with me on this journey. If you feel inclined to share your thoughts, whatever they may be, I’ll pose a question you can answer at the end of this post, or if you have more to say, email me directly. Any and all comments are welcome. Thank you for contributing! So, what are your thoughts on my botox injections in an effort to fill the wrinkles in my forehead and prevent them as well as others from intensifying? Well, my first thought would be STOP BAKING IN THE EQUATORIAL SUN 280 DAYS OF THE YEAR but since she won’t stop doing that, I’d probably suggest some friggin anti-wrinkle serum and a 10lb weight gain to start. Not that I care, I look forward to watching her turn into Rachel Zoe, personally. Meaghan O’Connell, “editor” of the “book” Snoring & Sighing or whatever it’s called, is just one of many former bloggers now pimping their printed barbiturates every chance they get. @aditirajaram yeah lady: comingandcrying.com!Thu Sep 02 2010 09:04:57 (Pacific Daylight Time) via web in reply to aditirajaram Dear Internet, Coming & Crying is back at @mcnallyjackson.Sat Sep 04 2010 16:36:49 (Pacific Daylight Time) via Twitter for iPhone At least these are just a couple of tweets, and not the leg quivering, sob inducing experience poor Poundcake had last week: I had a lunch meeting around the corner. On the way to the train I walked by, caught my breath, debated and debated, walked by and came back, stood outside on the sidewalk for a few minutes, too afraid to go in. Then I was like YOU ARE AN IDIOT and went in and saw it, everywhere. SAMMMMMMMM! And yes, I totally totally cried. Also jen just asked me if I put it there. (No!) Anyway, go buy it! It’s the only way to get it today and the only store it’s in (McNally Jackson!) and there are not many. Between Poundcake and the Prostitute’s book, Megatits McCain’s book, and Mrs. Quirk’s book, I’m about sick of hearing about bloggers pushing their stupid books. It’s not even some kind of cache anymore, so many bloggers have books of some sort. Then again, they are all sitting around getting fat and posting pics of their faces on tumblr, and I’m in the office on Labor Day coding e-commerce Crap, so call me the idiot who didn’t chase down an editor and beg for a book advance.
